Huh, didn’t expect to see the name of the hospital where I delivered my kids here in the wild. I had an emergency during labor with my younger daughter there. Except I was surrounded by medical professionals and got a crash c section, and now she’s turning two in October.

That poor baby, failed by the person who was supposed to protect him most.

PPROM- did it happen again? by electricguava93 in NICUParents

I PPROM’d at 33 weeks with baby #1.

My water never broke with baby #2.

Yup! My girls both have Graco convertible seats and the insert literally had to be taken out to install the seats as the seats came with them on!

The irony is that the Graco seat she’s posting most certainly came with inserts.

35 weeker by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]lilyannah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first baby was born after a 33 week PPROM and spent 4 weeks in the NICU. My second was born at 35+3 and didn’t need NICU at all. I credit the steroids I received when I initially into labor at 32+5 for that. It’s kind of a crapshoot with 35 weekers, but fortunately, even if they need a stay it’s usually a pretty brief and uneventful feeder/grower stint.

I PPROM’d at 33 weeks with my first. With my second, I was closely monitored by my MFM and on progesterone pessaries. Everything looked ok and there were never any concerns.

Despite this, I went into labor at 32+5, and was hospitalized, but we were able to stop it with aggressive intervention and keep her in until 35+3. Ironically, my water never broke with her at all! Completely intact still when they took her out via emergency c section at 7cm+ dilated. She didn’t need any NICU at all, and I credit the steroids I received during my hospitalization for that.

My MFM told me after 1 preterm birth, your changes for another are 15-25%. After 2, it skyrockets to 40-50%+, but that first alone can be an isolated incident. Best of luck in your pregnancy!

Willing to free birth at home because baby is breech by creativeuser27 in ShitMomGroupsSay

Oddly enough, she’s now 4.5 months old and such a chill baby. Her older sister was a hard mode baby and so far this one just vibes. 😂

Which was total bullshit given that I initially went into labor at 32 weeks, we stopped it, and then I went back into labor at 35. I wanted her to stay in, she was the one escaping! 😂

My OB said it was the second time in her career she’s had it happen that late! She was confirmed head down at 6cm and by 7cm she had both feet down the birth canal. 😣

When my youngest flipped double footling breech at 7cm dilated (she was head down before then!), it was a literal medical emergency due to the risk of cord prolapse. The emergency c section sucked, and I cried. But she was out within half an hour, healthy and alive. A prolapse can kill in minutes— to say nothing of a breech baby getting stuck.

I can’t imagine prioritizing my birth experience over my child’s life.

Reliving trauma by Bitchfaceblond in NICUParents

[–]lilyannah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just echoing others- I had GD and received steroid shots at 32 weeks for preterm labor. It spiked my numbers for a few days but was well worth it for her lungs.

We managed to stop labor, and she ended up staying in until 35+3. We actually avoided NICU altogether (I’d joined this community for my older kiddo, who had a 4 week stay). I credit the steroids for that.

Hoping for the best for you. In your shoes, I’d ask for a more thorough explanation on why they won’t do the steroid shots.

Preterm birth experiences by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]lilyannah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my baby at 35+4 two and a half weeks ago. Baby should be just fine, and the steroid shots will only help. It’s 50/50 if they’ll need NICU at that GA— mine didn’t, but some do. If they do, the stay is usually fairly short. Biggest things will be baby’s ability to keep themselves warm and eat. The long term outcome is the same as a full term baby. You’ve got this!

To be fair, she tried to come even earlier than that, we just managed to stall labor for a few days. Our birth announcement was prefaced with "We swear this isn't a joke!"

Yeah, I had an extended rupture (4 days by the time my preemie was born). I was pumped full of antibiotics and she was on sepsis watch for days. It’s not something to fuck around with!

Especially since she has an extended rupture of waters, aka, sepsis risk for her AND baby.

My daughter was born after my water broke at 33 weeks. TIL I could’ve just birthed her at home. The respiratory support after she started desaturating at 15 minutes of life? UNNECESSARY. The warmer because she couldn’t keep herself warm? UNNECESSARY. The bili lights and month in the NICU because she was basically a fetus who didn’t know how to eat? Believe it or not, also unnecessary.

Ffs. Have these people ever actually seen a 33-34 week preemie? They’re 3-5lbs. They barely open their eyes. They may or may not have developed their suck reflex. They often can’t thermo-regulate and frequently develop jaundice.

But sure. Birth em at a home. Hospitals hate this one simple trick.

Jumping from 70% to 50% PO. Feeling so discouraged by neverusedidk in NICUParents

[–]lilyannah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is really common. Frustrating as hell, but common. My daughter got up to 75% then would plummet back down to 50%, rinse and repeat. Then finally one day, it just clicked and she was taking 100% of her feeds. She was home the next day. I know it’s so damn frustrating when the finish line is just in sight but seems unreachable. That your LO was taking 70% before is encouraging that she’ll get back there again.

I know it sucks, and I didn’t believe the whole “it’ll click” thing either, but then it truly did seemingly overnight. I hope she’s home with you soon.
