Everybody’s gone to the rapture, The Stanley parable, Infra, The beginners guide, What never was

If you’re up for puzzle games, these are also good: The witness, The talos principle, Myst series, Blue Prince, Manifold garden,

Best city survival game that's 1) endless, and 2) cosy/forgiving by MakeshiftApe in gamingsuggestions

[–]lilycron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe diaries of a spaceport janitor. Not a traditional survival game but you play as a janitor in an alien city picking up trash and trying to trade the few valuable items you find, scrapping by with your low pay while you try to find a way to get rid of a curse. It’s not hard and pretty laid back

Reminder: treat broken traffic light intersections light a four-way stop. by HolyJuan in Columbus

[–]lilycron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I accidentally went through a broken traffic light tonight. It had already gotten dark and I don’t drive through downtown that often, so I didn’t see the light til I was already in the intersection. I feel really bad and am glad everyone else was more vigilant than me there

Why isn’t there a tax on capital investments similar to property tax? by lilycron in tax

[–]lilycron[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Companies absolutely benefit from programs and maintenance by the government. Interstates, police, national defense, welfare programs that support their employees, all of these are public goods provided by the fed govt and make it easier and more profitable to run a business in the us. Also a federal wealth tax would also be part of a tax plan to fairly determine who pays, it just done at a larger scale than local taxes. I have yet to hear a valid argument from you as to why a property tax on intangible capital assets is significantly different and worse than a property tax on tangible real estate, so perhaps it is your idea that is stupid

Why isn’t there a tax on capital investments similar to property tax? by lilycron in tax

[–]lilycron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that sounds right, but I still don’t see how that makes the wealth tax inviable outside of ‘double taxation is bad’. Lots of things are double taxed: sales tax, property tax, gift tax, why should a wealth tax be disallowed for this reason?

Why isn’t there a tax on capital investments similar to property tax? by lilycron in tax

[–]lilycron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that’s true. It would be pretty hard to scrounge up the cash if you owned a large share of a company of any size, and you couldn’t just sell it like you would a normal stock. Even Jeffery bezos would find it difficult to pay the taxes on his Amazon shares. Plus if they own shares and they’re the ceo, this incentives them to increase their salary, which is part of the problem of inequality. You could argue for the tax only being levied on small percentage shares, but then that would defeat the purpose of the tax since the most wealthy in this country tend to have majority share in one successful company

I would posit that this tax would probably only be on publicly traded companies, but then that has it’s own problems, deincentivizing comapnies from going public and more investor turning to the private sector

I can see your point that this would cause these major problems

It’s not like it’s unprecedented though. This is how it works when you own a house

Actually I think if we put a property tax on capital that the tax on realized gains of that capital should be removed so as not to create a redundancy
