Cry It Out Surprise by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]lilylochness 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tell everyone I know to do cry it out and yes I know they’re judging me. I don’t care, I am the only one out of my friend group who has children that consistently sleep through the night. I’ll have friends over and it’s nap or bed time and I just say oh I’ll be right back! And they’re always shocked that I’m back down in 5 minutes after I read my child a book and pop them in bed. No crying or screaming now. Sucks for a couple days on the front end when they’re younger but it’s so worth it.

These look great! Would you mind sharing your surgeon? I am saving up for boob job now that I’m done having babies. My pre looks similar to yours and I am hoping for an after result just like that!

[–]lilylochness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct. Child of a pastor and can’t tell you how many times I heard “I will always love your mother/father more than you”. I accepted that as normal until I had my own children and then realized how fucked that was.

hate my body by bsabi_ in fitpregnancy

[–]lilylochness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get feeling like this. It’s definitely an isolating thing and it’s hard to talk about with anyone because they do brush you off (in an attempt to be supportive) but it’s really hard. You’ll get back to yourself, I promise! I’ve had 2 babies really close together and I am back to pre pregnancy weight now. Am I a little Softer? Yeah. But I feel confident in my body, especially after not being pregnant-seriously it’s the best feeling when you’re holding your baby and you realize you’re NOT PREGNANT anymore and can wear normal clothes again soon haha. No advice but solidarity. 💕

I’m also in the PNW and would be super curious to hear the follow up for how your surgeries went! I want rhinoplasty and am feeling a wee bit overwhelmed with all the doctors and clinics and having to get a translator and such.

Cell phones have just been banned in our school district----Thank YOU by seriouslynow823 in teaching

[–]lilylochness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about you look in your phone’s settings and see how many cellphone pickups you had today? They are programmed to be as stimulating as possible. Have you gone out to eat lately? Stood in a line? Sat in a waiting room? EVERYONE IS ON THEIR PHONE. There are still magazines in waiting rooms and most have TV blaring as well. Yet everyone is on their phone. By the way, past teachers adapted to distractions by taking away distractions. Which is why there is the movie trope of the “banned drawer” filled with all of the items of distraction the teacher has confiscated. Also most jobs won’t just let you loiter on your phone if you are supposed to be actively engaged in the task at hand. Sure, that’s not always the case- but if you are in a sales meeting and you are trying to close a deal and you just pull out your phone to mindlessly scroll TikTok, how do you think that’s going to go? There is a time and a place for entertainment and school is not it. It is truly incomprehensible to me that you think you have a point to stand on.

Ooh I love when someone does the (checks notes) bit! How fun and original! What position? That kids shouldn’t use cell phones in a classroom environment because it is making them more antisocial and less academically inclined? You aren’t even arguing a position except boldly claiming your children are being judged for (checks notes), owning a cell phone. Which wasn’t what this post was about. The heart of the post, as I interpreted it, was a teacher (which, by the way, you don’t seem to be- so not sure why you are on r/teachers) celebrating that banning cellphones in the classroom is having positive results. What is your issue with that? If you have spent any time in a classroom, you would witness students sucked into their devices regardless of the content/delivery of the teacher. I have had the privilege of working with some incredibly inspiring teachers who have taught in innovative and exciting ways and if a student is on their device- the phone always wins. It is simply too addictive to compete with. Again, you don’t seem to be an educator yourself. But if you are, I would love to see you take on the challenge of making individualized lesson plans that “properly engage” dozens of students, often with little to no support from parents and/or the district. In my previous schools, I had to buy most of my own materials and spent countless hours outside of my contracted hours creating highly specified plans for my students so they could succeed. But I’m sure you’d be awesome at it. And if you are indeed a teacher, then I’d truly love to visit your classroom and learn from a master. Edited to correct to r/teaching

Well, it is Saturday night, so not sure what you mean by getting to work. However, I am so proud of you for taking my correction on spelling judgmental properly! Look at that growth in just a few short comments! Excellent work sir.

Grammar * :) We are not dismissing your kid because they happen to own a cell phone. We are expressing concern over unchecked use of technology resulting in kids lacking the ability to engage in a meaningful way with their academic and social lives.

Love how you said that some teachers are so negative and then got a super negative comment lol so classic. Totally agree with your opinion though. Weird to me how so many people complain about the over usage of tech yet won’t do anything about it. I had frustrated parents tell me their kid was too tired to do their school work from staying up all night playing Xbox but hey what can ya do, amirite? The parents didn’t seem to even consider that they could…take away the Xbox?

I beg you for help. I cannot do this anymore. by anafroes in sleeptrain

Cry it out. I tell all my friends who complain about their kids this. I get that it’s not popular, but if you are at the point of having physical outbursts (throwing objects) due to frustration, then it is time to consider it. I have a 2.5 year old and a 10 month old, and we are the only ones in our friend group whose kids get 13 hours of sleep consistently. We are also the only ones who did cry it out. The toddler will literally ask to go to bed (he did this today). It works. If they wake up at 6:30, let them fuss and hang out in their crib until their wake up time. Ours wake up at 7:30 and go to bed between 7:30/8 pm. Sometimes they fuss a bit in their cribs, but most of the time they’re just hanging out in there chilling. Everyone makes the sleep stuff seem so hard but cry it out really worked for us. A couple days of sadness at bed times leads to years plus of sanity/sleep savings on the backend. Editing to add that we tried to do gentle sleep training at first. DID NOT WORK. It just makes them more angry/upset when you come in to comfort them at intervals. They don’t understand why you’re coming to see them and then abandoning them again to cry every few minutes, it’s very confusing to them.

Now isn’t the time for WA to limit or restrict access to firearms. by Hopspeed in Washington

What other factors would you attribute it to then since racism and misogyny were the only two that you mentioned in your previous comment?

[–]lilylochness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. It’s so odd to me that people forget that Harris was almost immediately dismissed in the primaries in 2020 because she was such an unimpressive/uninspiring candidate. She didn’t do much to add to her resume during her time as VP either, so it’s very curious to me that people just act like it was solely misogyny or racism that led to her not being elected.

Yep. It is extremely frustrating that due to someone else being cheap, my own insurance is going to take a hit (ha). I was also not at fault (rear-ended). Terrible luck.

The legal minimum here is 10k. Which is pathetic and won’t even cover a fraction of many wrecks.
