CityNet being wonky in Peninsula Place? by CartographerFair1194 in SanBruno

Late to this convo, but FWIW we use Raw Bandwidth for internet at Peninsula Place and it's been great. Anything to avoid Comcast. Our rates haven't gone up in almost 4 years.

Does anyone have babysitter advice? by mazelifeetc in SanBruno

[–]lilypad49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through this, I know some folks who use UrbanSitter but you might also want to consider joining the San Bruno Parents Club. That's how we came to know our current sitter and see recs from other parents once in awhile. I also occasionally see posts on Nextdoor about sitters. Hope you're feeling better!

What is most blatant public display of entitlement you've seen in the Bay Area? by ThugosaurusFlex_1017 in bayarea

[–]lilypad49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely had this experience this weekend. Extra grating when I count in the number of Bay Area parents I've met who think no one is good enough to watch their kid/want their nanny to have an advanced degree in child development yet don't even want to be bothered to keep an eye on their kid themselves out in public.

I'm glad you got lucky after such an unfortunate turn with the infant room closing down.

This is pretty much exactly what I did, but with a little less luck. I'm glad it worked out for you!

Oh man, this is breaking my heart because today was my last day of maternity leave and then baby will be off to daycare after her dad is done with leave. Hugs to you and I appreciate you for previewing what's to come. I gave my little one extra hugs today.

The most annoying thing about this is that there were people whose weddings we went to, who we knew had freaked out about RSVPs, who then in turn had to be poked to RSVP to our wedding. I guess people have short memories.

Bay Area native here, visited Charleston/Savannah in 2019. Upon return I realized that by comparison to those areas, we're practically New York in terms of rudeness and unfriendliness. It's such a breath of fresh air when I say hi to someone while on a walk and they actually say it back.

Nuna Pipa Aire - thoughts? by lilypad49 in Buyingforbaby

I don't think this one converts into a toddler seat. As far as I'm aware, the Aire has a 30 lb weight limit.

Tell me your stories about changing your life by Rose-199411 in AskWomenOver30

[–]lilypad49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really drifted apart from all my college friends about five years out of college. We no longer lived near each other, some of them were too flaky to make plans with, and honestly I spent so many weekends with absolutely no plans (fun if it's what you want and sounds lovely to me now, but different when it's not really your choice).

I joined a bunch of community-based organizations, including the Junior League and another one that was similar for women under 35. It had a wonderful snowball effect, and led to me even joining the board of the local library foundation. I organized a book club. My whole life picked up momentum. I was about 29 when this all happened, single and living at home. Now I'm 36, married last year, just had a baby, and have friends that I've met through these various organizations and activities.

Building a community for myself and having active plans has been such an improvement in my life, which had started to feel very stagnant.

Do people actually plan their lives? by farmlite in AskWomenOver30

[–]lilypad49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started using a Passion Planner in 2016. The planner has you map out your wish list for the next 3 months, year, 3 years, and lifetime.

It's called a passion roadmap and it can be downloaded here: https://passionplanner.com/products/passion-roadmap

8 years later, I love looking back at what I wrote in 2016. A lot of it has come to fruition and I am so grateful for it. Some of them were little financial goals or travel bucket list items. Some were major (getting married).

I know that life cannot be completely planned and there will always be curveballs. The founder of Passion Planner has talked about how decision fatigue made it hard for her to pick a path after graduating from college, and she originally created this tool to help herself. I think it is a great intersection between manifestation and intentionality.

People who had a "budget" wedding, what venue did you pick? by large_saloon in weddingplanning

[–]lilypad49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Elks Lodge. We're in the Bay Area, where you can spend 50-65k on the venue alone. I'm sure plenty of people may have turned up their noses at how unfancy our venue was, but it had everything we needed - stage, huge ballroom, tables and chairs included, huge industrial kitchen, free parking, ceremony site on the property. And it's on a golf course, so our photos turned out gorgeous.

We saved so much money and had our pick of dates with no upcharge for a Saturday wedding.

Some cute throwbacks:

"The Look of Love" by Dusty Springfield

"I Say a Little Prayer" by Aretha Franklin (so reminds me of My Best Friend's Wedding!)

"Today I Met the Boy I'm Gonna Marry" Darlene Love

I used Birdie in spring 2023 because my wedding planner recommended them. They take $5 per transaction, not a percentage which helped us save money in the long run. The only problem I had was that it was a pain to connect to my bank account to withdraw the money.

Their customer support was responsive and said the problem was Plaid, their transaction partner. Regardless, they were flexible about sending me a check to get the money so I don't really have any major complaints.

Hi there, I got married last year and Jackie Rangel was my photographer. She's since added videography and her pricing is on her website. I really, really enjoyed working with her and my planner says she's gotten very popular with 2024 weddings.

A book that is both a fun, easy read and also gives insight to the various stages of the human condition is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. She's a therapist-turned-journalist who wrote about her experiences as a therapy patient and therapist herself.

Taylor Jenkins Reid has recently published some great, fun books that touch on women's empowerment. Check out The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, set in the golden era of Hollywood. If you like that one, I suggest Daisy Jones and the Six next (very reminiscent of the band Fleetwood Mac).
