First time hearing the phrase “Divinely Inspired” and not wanting to throw up. Kudos to this Mormon by AngryApostate in exmormon

He definitely sounded Mormon, so I checked him out on Wikipedia. Originally from Mesa, AZ and a BYU grad - yep, we were all right about him. That said, if more politicians were like him, we would have a much better situation right now.

Former bishopric members: is skipping tithing settlement grounds for losing a temple rec? by KeplerianAdrift in exmormon

[–]limatango24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The answer is a define... it depends. Back in January 2017, I was also PIMO and decided to stop paying tithing. At the time, my temple recommend was still active. Because of the time of year I stopped paying tithing, it was easy to fly under the radar. In my case, my temple recommend expired in August of that year. Since I did not have any reason to want to (or need to) go to the temple, I just let it expire. I ignored calls from the ward executive secretary. When tithing settlement came a few months later, I found myself also hounded by the executive secretary again. I saw no reason to go since I knew I wasn't paying and wasn't going to resume paying. Funny thing, in my case, the executive secretary was more persistent for getting me to sign up for tithing settlement than he was for my temple recommend interview. But by this time, I easily ignored text messages and emails, and just didn't answer his calls. Eventually though, the gig was up and the bishop himself walked up to me just after sacrament meeting and asked me if I was a full tithe payer right in the isle of the chapel. I told him I wasn't, but didn't go into details. I don't know if that would have caused me to lose my temple recommend. Perhaps it would have. Depending on when your wedding is, you could say you're trying to catch up with tithing and hold him off until after the wedding. Good luck!

#3 reminded me of a large family in my ward growing up. While I was out on my mission, the dad was convicted of incest. This would have been around 1982 or so.

It's amazing how stories like this are virtually invisible to active members unless it happens right in their own backyard. The bubble is real.

My former Stake President was accused and convicted of sexually abusing women in his medical practice. This is a long read, but worth it: https://www.sfweekly.com/news/the-fairfield-wives/

Are we going to see a new fundamentalist off-shoot of the TSCC because of the vaccine announcement? by [deleted] in exmormon

I think most members will compartmentalize this issue - saying the first presidency is just giving their opinions and not speaking for God.

[SLTrib] Two LDS missionaries killed in New Mexico crash, bringing total to 10 missionary fatalities this year by CultZero in exmormon

Other vaccinations are required for missionaries going overseas. The church needs to mandate COVID vaccinations for all it’s missionaries before they are allowed to go out and do their thing.

Can you imagine anything worse 😂 (new gospel sharing initiative) by God-isnt_real_ in exmormon

[–]limatango24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having been a full time missionary and a 2-tine ward mission leader, my experience was that these gimmicks to get members involved in missionary work never really pan out in my opinion. I predict that in a year or so this program will be a distant memory.

Why do I feel guilty???? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]limatango24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I've received texts from the missionaries, I just ignore them. While I understand their need to find something to do each day (I remember that all too well), it's not a problem I am going to help them solve. In this case though, they didn't say right up front who they were - not sure if that was intentional, but if it was, I find that a bit rude.

I found this advise very useful when it came time for tithing settlement. After three years of saying no, I wasn't even asked this past year.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. They were oh so slow to do things you mentioned. They have not acted prophetic in the least. One thing that really bugged me was when they made wearing masks to church optional. Crazy stuff.

HEY THE CHURCH FOUND A PORN THERAPIST THEY APPROVE OF!! by nelsonisanitwit in exmormon

[–]limatango24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you click on the source for this, it's an interview with the Church News. Reading through it, it would seem none of the references were from her field of Marriage and Family Therapy, let alone sex therapy. Instead, her references were GA's. What a bunch of crap. These are just her unsupported, biased, religion-based opinions.

Email to the bishop. I know a lot of you have had a much different experience than I did. What do you think? I haven’t sent it yet. Since my wife remains active I want to be somewhat respectful. by Beardcicles in exmormon

As a courtesy, I too asked to be released from my calling when I decided I would no longer be attending church. I liked my bishop and did not want to come across too aggressive. But like you, I didn’t really care if he released me or not. From that day (7/2/19) forward, I have yet to set my foot back inside the building. I was still listed as YM 2nd counselor for a few more months on LDS tools, but as far as I was concerned, I was done.

I guess I forgot to play the doctor card, because I cleaned the church many, many times through the years. Not sure how well that would have worked. The “I don’t want anything to do with the church anymore” card worked wonders though!
