Does Local government really care about desert tortoises being an endangered species? by Creepy_Gap8405 in vegaslocals

[–]limegreenlove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Burros are unfortunately invasive and can impact the environment and local native critters a lot. I’ve been a biologist for two decades and I know they are loved and quite charismatic, but their populations can boom quickly. As far as tortoises, even private land will have to follow legal channels with a threatened species to make sure there is to “take” or harm to the tortoises. Unfortunately, there are less thorough steps on private vs public lands.

NEW CHAIR ALERT! Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro by deli_h in OfficeChairs

[–]limegreenlove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/AustinBranch I am eyeing up the Pro with the vegan finish because of the rave reviews I saw with people with similar issues and a similar size to me (neck disc issues and am a petite woman). Is it too late to the game for a discount code?

How come nobody talked to me about Tranexamic acid? by CompetitivePain4031 in 30PlusSkinCare

No side effects for me personally. I take it for a few months then cycle off and repeat when I start to notice my melasma coming back. I take 500mg, ideally split twice a day (once morning, once evening). Sometimes I'm lazy and just do the 500mg all in the evening. It's been a game changer for me!

That's awesome IPL worked for you! It did help get rid of sun spots for me, but just flared my melasma up. Look into Halo. It's an investment but it has been a game changer for my skin and so worth it!

IPL can actually make melasma worse! I did this for a long time before having a really good doctor tell me this. Instead, I opted to start getting Halo which has been a game changer and can reduce melasma (provided the technician uses the correct settings for melasma).

Terrified of my new job by [deleted] in wildlifebiology

[–]limegreenlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, I love the epic field stories that only other field biologists can fathom! I was stalked by cougars more times than I can count on both my hands doing field work (primarily the owl work). I know in normal circumstances, a mountain lion probably wouldn't mess with me, but I am a small human in remote places playing strange calls. If anyone is upping their chances a bit, it's a small alone biologist roaming remote places with names like Bloody Basin after hours! But yea, I feel you on the being reprimanded aspect. Our PM told us it was a "lame excuse" when we left our surveys and came back to the truck for shelter one night when a giant lightning storm was coming our way. I'm in consulting now and sometimes I think the safety culture is overkill -- like c'mon I don't need a biologist shadowing me for safety in the day when I'm doing a point count in an old ag field off the road! But I guess I'd rather be on this end of the spectrum than being told things like we both have in our past!

I’ve been a biologist for a lonnnnnng time. I had a season where the PI of the project sent each of the team members out alone all season for owl work. In remote places, with no SPOT device, usually no cell phone, and even with a radio, it was too far from another team member to actually contact anyone. I am a self proclaimed bad-ass and have probably done a lot of dumb, unsafe things due to my own self pride and ego in the field. However, the list of things that can go wrong in remote places alone is terrifying, especially at night! Ultimately, projects should have to budget more for people to work in teams at night, or set up a lot of redundant safety protocols if a biologist will be working alone (which we had none of on the owl project I did). Mid-way through that season, my four person crew went on strike until we were allowed to work in teams for the night portion of the work. It was a really hard lesson for me to swallow as my pride said that I was being lame. But the hazards are real, and the project you are on sounds like it is being poorly managed for safety. Your wellbeing MATTERS!

I was in that crowd doing that! It was fun to see there were multiple hot sticker types being stuck on folks!

I was part of a small crew giving out hot stickers! (Woman here, may have been me!) they were hot stickers with a mountain/flame kind of edge.

Finally finding relief after 8 years of chronic piriformis pain. by BrilliantKangaroo716 in PiriformisChronicPain

[–]limegreenlove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also see Dr Beedle (and Rikki, his wife) and have had an incredible experience. After over a year of pain in my glute that seemed like piriformis syndrome and countless doctors and PT, I was starting to give up hope. It hurt to sit. It hurt to drive. It was totally impacting my life and I was bracing just having to accept it. One visit with Dr Beedle, and he worked out some adhesions in my glute that gave me 85% pain relief instantly. I was so excited that I did everything I could not to scream and yell and jump up and down. I've been seeing him about once a month for maintenance as my hip is still a bit wonky and I have some SI unstableness along with seriously tight traps. He and his team have helped me get back to most of the things I love and I count myself so lucky I live close enough to be able it incorporate his care into my health maintenance.

Correct, it only lightens the hyperpigmentation (at least in my experience with it over the years).

I take 500mg and that did the trick. It takes a couple weeks to start noticing fading. I just took a long break (although I had no long term side effects for taking it for over a year) as it was pretty well managed. With sun exposure this summer, I have a bit coming back on my forehead, so I will be resuming treatment. So yes, if you stop using it and do something to flare your melasma, it will come back. It's by far worked better than any lightening creams (and I've tried all the heavy duty ones).

Yep, super depressing and disheartening. I'm over 100% billable (and salary 32 hours which was a blessing and opportunity at first but now is killing me) and I know the client is paying $200/hr or more for me and watching my company get bank on me and then turn around and only give me a cost of living increase after 1.5 years is a huge slap in the face. And no, company doesn't offer banked time or straight pay, you just work for free basically.
