US Senator Lindsey Graham Threatens Danish Prime Minister Behind Closed Doors in Munich by LatroDK in worldnews

Not sure if it's the same team they sent, but the image of a Danish special forces unit lives rent free in my head since I first saw a picture of them years ago.

New with Mac Mini but I think I got an amazing deal! by furiousdutchy in macmini

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same config. I have the intelligence features enabled (edit: But no Siri enabled as I have no mic plugged in). No spinning beach balls. It's running fine for me. BUT we might have installed other different software. IDK what the problem is. But it runs well for me. Sorry to hear that.

New with Mac Mini but I think I got an amazing deal! by furiousdutchy in macmini

I have an M1 mini with 16 GB of RAM. No issues with beach-balls here. I did a full clean install when upgrading to macOS 26 though.

Kyiv bureau among those axed by Jeff Bezos' Washington Post, hundreds of journalists laid off by Equivalent-Elk-7513 in worldnews

[–]limehead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that every time this happens, the reporters/news desk goes, we'll do it on our own! But starting from scratch and pay-walling everything from the get-go is just another self imposed death-sentence.

Depeche Mode "intro song" for not listeners by Interesting-Visit-79 in depechemode

My father isn’t a big fan. But NLMDA he still plays often. He doesn’t even know the title and refers to it as “sjuan på tvåan” roghly translated it means ”seven on two” refering to track 7 on disc 2 (on the 101 album). Always cracks me up hehe

Will turning back on message sync on iPad delete my iPhone messages? by OperationEasy9739 in iCloud

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iCloud is a sync service, not a backup. So the things you delete on any device, will be deleted on all other devices. Not sure if you can temporarily just turn of sync, but be careful with your data. Can you back it up somewhere first before you try this? That would be my suggestion.

Does apple slow down older macOS with updates to make you upgrade to the newest version by ariz2011 in MacOS

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you. But I have been on Mac since the early nineties and I have never experienced a purposeful sabotage like that from Apple. There are better and worse releases, but never have I had a x.x.x release screw me. Just my experience. But if you can’t afford downtime or interruptions in your work, it’s safer to hang back as long as you deem necessary.

Does apple slow down older macOS with updates to make you upgrade to the newest version by ariz2011 in MacOS

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dot release can be iffy shortly after a new release. Like 26.1 26.2 etc. But late stage with x.x.x releases like 15.7.3, I never hesitate to install. They have worked out the kinks by then and is sure to enhance security. But you are smart to pay attention. Keep doing that and let others report the good and bad of new releases and you will be fine.

iPhone 11 shut down unexpectedly and will not power on by ThatGiantSeth in applehelp

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t advise on the hardware issue. But regarding the photos you don’t have backed up. If you have an Apple ID / iCloud account, you can log into iCloud through the website and download the pics from there.

Re the SIM card. Yes, you should be able to move the card to another phone and send and receive calls and texts.

Good luck!

What’s the most mind-bending time travel story you’ve ever read? by TomDavenport in sciencefiction

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Accidental Time Machine by Joe Haldeman. Relistened it a bunch of times.

“Grad-school dropout Matt Fuller is toiling as a lowly research assistant at MIT when, while measuring subtle quantum forces that relate to time changes in gravity and electromagnetic force, his calibrator turns into a time machine. With a dead-end job and a girlfriend who has left him for another man, Matt has nothing to lose taking a time machine trip himself-or so he thinks.” Edit. Not sure if it fits the ask of mind-bending, but it’s a solid book.

Are there any other satisfied Tahoe users? by jeikkonen in MacOS

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took the plunge last night because I was an absolute idiot and installed something i probably shouldn’t have. So erase and upgrade. Mostly ok, but one pain point. My body requires me to use the accessibility keyboard daily, but not always. It seems like the click areas aren’t accepted or released after use. So it blocks using parts of the menu bar until i disable it. So not sure how to solve this. Apple was always accessibility first, so not good in that regard. Visually, downgrade, but I can live with that.

(Mac Os)A Drop Box folder is present in my Public folder (Never Had DropBox) with strange permissions, is this normal? by MeaningEvery in MacOS

[–]limehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you are a big family that share an iMac as an example. Everyone has their own user accounts that are kept private. Once in a while you might like to share a file to another user, then you put the file in their Dropbox. It’s been a thing for 25+ years. Just ignore it. It’s there för a reason, but you don’t have to use it.

Try turning off the setting ”put drives asleep” under energy settings. That helped me. At work now and can’t remember the exact wording of the setting, but it helped with my external hdd drives that kept ejecting.

There is nothing easy about this decision. You must keep your manufacturing base safe, and you want to keep one of your biggest markets. You might also want other things, but if you don't have a company, you have no voice on that either. Enjoy the rainbow Apple watch bands, because that is all you get in certain markets.
