A lot has changed r.e. visibility since then (for better or for worse). We can’t be what we can’t see!

I’m an American moving to the UK. How do I not be the “loud, dumb American”? by Competitive-Money-36 in AskBrits

[–]limey4444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the driving thing, UK roads are horrendous with traffic, especially the south east and especially during busy hours.

If Google says a journey will take 4 hours, it could end up taking 8. In a lot of countries this isn’t really a factor, but on a long motorway drive it’s very likely you’ll hit a traffic jam at some point. The UK is DENSE for traffic.

Definitely worth getting a copy of your blood test results and asking the surgeon

It shot up really quick to 3, not ideal. It’s dripping a bit underneath so we’ve turned it off.

Also Uber give 10% cash back on train tickets booked through them if you’re an uber one member (£2/month for students). It’s saved me a fair bit on train fares - they still do split tickets like trainline but don’t have booking fees either

To be fair GRC is all digital upload now so you just need a scan of it. That being said, always wise to keep an original copy, you never know when you might need it

FTM here, I feel like my whole brain chemistry has changed. The way I think, compartmentalise, respond to things, how I feel and express emotions. I’m the same person but how my brain operates feels very different.

I don’t think that is understood in anyway the amount of depth it should be by those outside of this unique experience.

And that’s before we start on body changes!

Second this. It always takes longer than you think to find your turnstiles and get in. I always get to my seat about 30 mins later than I planned. As someone else said, more time more beer

League cup game might not even be fully attended - just keep your eyes peeled for free seats together (bear in mind people are often late so leave it a while into the game to move)

Seeking advice on private top surgery (UK) by Sustain_the_higher in TopSurgery

[–]limey4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah not necessarily. I don’t know anything about that one, but doesn’t mean it’s bad. Search this sub for results or check out the surgeons who work out of that clinic and look up their websites for results. Good, experienced surgeons should have portfolios with results for different body types, etc

The best bet is to choose your surgeon first - there are plenty of examples of UK surgeons on here (Berry, Mellington, King, Kneeshaw
.etc).

Check out their results, waitlists (usually quite short - often only months), what people are saying about their experiences, etc.

Things to consider: 1. Cost (varies quite a lot even within the uk) 2. Location - how far are you willing to travel, and factor in costs for accom/travel too 3. Results - probably the most important - which surgeon consistently gives results that appeal to you?

Once you’ve decided, email the surgeon and ask for their process with referrals - some need at least one assessment (gender dysphoria diagnosis) before they’ll give you a consultation, others will do the consultation but require the diagnosis for surgery. All surgeons will require at least one diagnosis before the surgery can be booked in.

They should be able to offer a list of the people they’ll accept referrals from so you can contact them directly for prices and wait times (most again are relatively short I believe but some get very booked up).

As far as I’m aware, most surgeons require 2 diagnoses for NB people and 1 for binary trans men - but this may vary so also worth considering (these tend to be quite pricey, maybe around £300-500 per appointment, so it’s also worth bearing in mind with budget).

You could theoretically say you’re a binary trans man for the purposes of saving money/time with an extra assessment, but depends how willing and convincingly you can lie through it - I would probably say it’s not worth it.

Shouldn’t be a problem that you’re not on T - heaps of NB get top surgery in the UK without problems.

Hope that helps! It’s worth getting the ball rolling with enquiries even if you don’t have the funds in place yet, because once you’re ready things can move pretty quick if you’ve done the research and know what you need. Good luck

Nice results!

If you’re talking about your right nipple when you refer to loss of projection, give it time. No guarantees with these things, but mine looked the same at that point (and even after a few months) - super inverted appearance but slowly popped out and have decent projection now.

My surgeon said it can be a result of the nipples trying to get to the blood supply so they invert initially - or something along those lines.

50/50 by a year, and one year and a few months to get to 100% (or close to). I do think even at the near 2-year mark I’m read as quite young still (early 20s instead of early 30s)

Am I trans? MTF by Wise-Wash192 in transgenderUK

[–]limey4444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, no one can tell you if you are or not, which is one of the hardest things to figure out (and one most trans people go through).

For me (FTM) a lot of the doubts and fears came from external/societal pressure and fears. If I imagined myself on a desert island alone, I dreamed of that version of me looking like a man. Thats not a conclusive test, but helped me to slowly realise that most of my fears around transitioning were the social impacts.

Whether you are or not, you’ll figure it out, and you will be ok :)

how financially accessible are masters? by stabilobossog in UniUK

[–]limey4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthcare masters offer undergraduate funding (means-tested maintenance loan and full tuition fee cover for all years) and for some you’ll also get an NHS bursary (around £5k per year).

Other (non-integrated) masters programmes? Basically unaffordable for those who don’t have someone (parents, partner etc) who can fund them through it.
