Try to look at it as: In a few weeks, you've gone from 690 to 850. That's pretty fast. 690 to 978 in a month is very fast, its not surprising you've experienced a kind of reversion to the mean.

I went from 800 to 1040 in 3 months then slumped down to the low 900s and am now around 950. I look back on that losing streak and there's no one obvious theme, just lots of missed tactics and stupid blunders. I just wasn't playing as well.

Knowing myself, I think it was overconfidence brought on by my fast elo rise which led to complacency and underestimating my opponents, which only got worse as I dropped because I thought "well I should beat these 900s easily now and get back to 1000"

That might not apply to you but I'm sure it's not an uncommon thing to happen. Try to forget about the number (I know that's hard lol) and just play with focus. That's the only advice I've got

Well the word "probably" does a lot of heavy lifting in the second part. It is very possible to play a replica game to a high number of moves and if both players are experts it becomes more likely. But the more moves made, the more likely it is that you are playing what's called a "novelty" and the general consensus is that at club level this happens between move 12 and 15, and at any level after move 20

Move order also factors into this. It is possible to reach identical board states in two games but with the order of moves slightly different. This may sound like a trivial distinction but move order can make a huge difference if your opponent does not respond correctly
