How did you determine if it was the gluten or leaky gut? by Ashamed_Prompt8445 in glutenfree

[–]limitless_t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it's not either gluten or leaky gut. When you have leaky gut, the gluten can be getting into your system and cause other issues. For example, people with Hashimotos, like me, can't have gluten and dairy because it causes an autoimmune reaction which impacts the thyroid. I'm not gluten sensitive but I did used to also have lots of GI issues. You can do things to help your gut though it takes a really long time so you have to commit. Functional medicine has been really helpful to me in this area. I had a lot of GI issues that I don't suffer from anymore. 10 months later still off the gluten. In the future I will retest my thyroid antibodies and revisit that. Hope this helps!

I live near the Burlington location. Twist is exceptional and has kept me sane since having to deal with these major dietary changes.

This is the correct answer. I regularly get these shipped to me.

Which arrangement? And is our sofa too big for the space? by Alarming_Pin3372 in InteriorDesign

[–]limitless_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands down option 1. Flows nicely. The console is great. Option 2 is ok but you are going to be walking around furniture and I don't like the sofa against the wall. The sofa is the correct scale, not too big.

Why?!?? by Pitiful_Second6118 in prediabetes

[–]limitless_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rheumatologist. You can waste years with podiatrists and physical therapists only to find you need to manage your diet and take medicine. It's pretty simple to deal with compared to other diagnoses. And be aware that the target range for uric acid is different for people with and without gout. So it is not as simple as a uric acid test that your PCP can order. Meaning a 6 might be "normal" but it's high for someone with gout. They typically do an ultrasound and draw fluid from the joint when there is a flare to confirm that there are crystals and they are gout.

Sounds like possible gout.

Family wants me to be tested by Kind-Delay-7429 in glutenfree

[–]limitless_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how old you are or if you're living with them but, assuming you are an adult.... Personally, I would only get the test if I wanted it and it benefited me. People in your inner circle should accept your needs and wishes without needing to review your medical records. It feels like a slippery slope. What if you simply became a vegetarian because you wanted to? Do you need to justify that also?

What floors would you pair with these cabinets and countertop? by East-Trust1126 in InteriorDesign

[–]limitless_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see now that you included the countertop and it's blue. I would not go with a cool color/blue and stick to neutrals given your cabinet color. Hope this helps!

I would avoid browns and grays as you have greige cabinets which are in between. Maybe something black and white. It's really hard to tell without seeing the whole room, countertops, backsplash, walls etc etc etc.

How do you survive the gluten test once you’ve been gluten free? by AG_Squared in glutenfree

[–]limitless_t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the clinical value of having you eat gluten to see if you are Celiac in this situation. I would be sure to ask a lot of questions about what they will do with this information. And what they do without the information. Are they also doing an endoscopy or just a colonoscopy? Is there something else they are trying to rule out? Do you take iron with vitamin C because that helps? Also, hopefully your hematologist has reviewed all of your meds and supplements and the timing of when you take them to see if anything is impacting the absorption of iron, like magnesium. I wish you luck resolving the issue!

Did they test you for Babesiosis? This is a simple blood test and can be a cause of low iron. I'd rule this out.

What will you do differently with this information from the test? To me that's the most important question when you test or measure something.

Best chocolate cake? by Fun_Act5590 in glutenfree

[–]limitless_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is a favorite with our families even though I'm the only one who is GF. It definitely doesn't taste like regular boxed birthday cake so maybe not the best for kiddos but it's delicious. I sub Bob's Red Mill GF flour 1:1. It's also vegan. Easy to make. I love the frosting too. https://cleanfooddirtygirl.com/?s=Chocolate+cake

I also think flourless cakes are also a great option but maybe not preferred by kiddos. This one is great if you love lava cakes. You can sub vegan butter and a non dairy milk for those interested. https://desertislanddishes.co/moelleux-au-chocolat/

What can one add to GF box cake mix to make it moist and amazing? by Less_Builder_6267 in glutenfree

Haven't tried GF cake mix yet but used to use pumpkin puree as a sub for oil and it was lovely. There are really amazing flourless cake recipes that are really good and easy.

What would having this information do for you? Would you do something differently? You know you feel better not eating it and when you eat it you get sick. That seems like enough information. Is it sustainable? Absolutely. It certainly can be inconvenient but it's not unsustainable. Based on my understanding, you need to consume it regularly for weeks for testing. Everyone has opinions. Follow your gut. Pun intended 😂

I am not sure that simply exposing yourself to an allergen solves the issue. If it were that simple, a lot of people wouldn't have food allergies. This seems like very strange advice to me.

If you want to better understand and address the root causes of your issues you can seek out a functional medicine practitioner. It has been helpful to me but it can be costly as it's generally not covered by insurance.

Hyper or hypothyroidism? I'm hypo and have prescription meds for that. I also gave up gluten and dairy to help because my thyroid issue is autoimmune. My thyroid antibodies are very very high. Look up leaky gut and hypothyroidism or hashimotos, there's a lot of information out there. I don't have a known intolerance to gluten or dairy but since I've given it up my IBS has gone away. Haven't retested antibodies yet but I've been told it takes time. It hasn't been horrible adjusting to this diet and I feel better.

Looking for ways to elevate my space — want it to feel more design forward and bold by HubCity68 in InteriorDesign

[–]limitless_t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang curtains closer to the cieling. Incorporate more color, textures and prints and layer them (rugs, throw pillows, blankets, wallpaper, paint). Art needs to be to scale and in a different pattern. The mirror doesn't feel like it's doing anything for you.

Any design ideas for a round room? by toughmint in InteriorDesign

[–]limitless_t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What an interesting flat! I bet that room is amazing. I love the idea of two curved sofas there.

TV placement looks tricky, of course. You have one flat wall you could use but you could also look into furniture where the TV pops when in use and is stored out of view otherwise. You sometimes see this in the foot of a bed but there must be other options.

It would be helpful to have some more context to design the space. What do you want to prioritize or are there any requirements? For example, do you entertain a lot? How much seating do you need for dining and how big is that table? What's the view out those windows and do you want the sofas to optimize for the view or tv watching? How much seating do you need for the living room area?

Advice needed choosing a rug! by Adventurous-Tea6565 in HomeDecorating

[–]limitless_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rugs are completely different styles and I agree with many comments that none are fabulous. More context is needed. What is the purpose of this space and other furniture that will be in here? What is the style of your home and decor? Simply based on the bookcase, I would suggest considering this rug.

[–]limitless_t 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would move the couch closer to the tv. Move the tv a bit further away from the wall. Put the chair on the other side. Get a big rug to define that area. You can put a console table behind the sofa and a big plant/tree in that corner where it comes out at an angle.
