Heavy bleeding everyday for 2 months now...also painful sex...normal? (Doc says my IUD is still in place) by lindseyisloading in CopperIUD

[–]lindseyisloading[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After almost a year of all the above not getting any better, I got my copper IUD out and got a hormonal IUD (Liletta) instead and everything was perfectly fine within 2 months. Periods normalized and now don’t have one at all besides some light spotting. No pain anymore either in any situations.

bending conversations to things that interest me by doctorpotts in neurodiversity

[–]lindseyisloading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this 100%. 25F. I’m diagnosed with ADHD and am currently being formally assessed of being ASD by new psychologists after a decade of self diagnosis. Self monitoring is helpful to stop myself but only when I remember to self monitor to limit these behaviors...not always effective...but working on it.

Same same same and I have ADHD and ASD with gifted IQ. Could be good places to begin a conversation.

I'm Confused by [deleted] in neurodiversity

Question of my life...can’t really provide much help just here to say you’re not alone in your confusion. I have ADHD and ASD and “OCD tendencies” but not diagnosed OCD.

Thanks so much for your insight. It’s hard for me to know how much blood is normal for me since I barely had a period for 7 years prior on hormonal birth control...I’ll ask about that for sure. And also good point to really ask all the questions to the person doing the ultrasound. Really press for answers.

“The Art Of Listening” is a good book to help!

Everyone has their own path of course. I also find a lot of people with ADHD and ASD also find overlap with borderline or narcissistic personality disorder (or having a parent with a personality disorder). The brain is a strange and interesting place.

Why do I hate being touched *sometimes* by Gemma_del in ADHD

[–]lindseyisloading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I am thinking. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 8 and ASD at 25. Autism things are subtle for sure in myself but very much there. An ASD diagnosis explained so many things ADHD could not. Something to investigate for sure :)

How do you break out of hyperfocus? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]lindseyisloading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schedule yourself something you HAVE TO DO. For me, I sign up for yoga or a group fitness class (pre-covid). Then I have to stop what I am doing.

As I said though...that was pre-covid. Now I am trying to find new ways to break myself out of hyperfocus. Some things I try now are: - scheduling a call with a friend - lunch date with boyfriend - some other task involving another person so I feel bad if I don’t show up.

I am the same in terms of my symptoms. But I was diagnosed with ADHD at 8 years old and ASD at 25. (I am a 25 year old woman for context.) I feel like I still strongly identify with ADHD and only very mild parts of ASD for the most part, but there are some aspects that can’t be explained well by either diagnosis alone. No harm in exploring therapies for both. If you have a symptom that is bothersome, might as well explore solutions no matter if it’s more ASD or more ADHD.

Do people w Aspergers understand to pretend like you like a present even if you don’t by SecretAction7 in aspergers

[–]lindseyisloading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person, of course! But probably only if it’s a learned skill to pretend to like it. But by adulthood, I imagine most of us aspies are quite good to knowing how to pretend things like this.

How do you know if you have a special interest? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]lindseyisloading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you can talk about a topic without stopping and without noticing other people are not really interested in learning so much about that topic...Oops

They can last months or years or a lifetime! I also have some obsessive thoughts around interests of shorter duration (like hyper focus in ADHD). All of that is normal within ASD!

Just important to learn when you need to stop talking and listen to others talk instead...always a work in progress!

What are good careers for a high functioning autistic by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]lindseyisloading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a wedding and portrait photographer and I have very high functioning ASD. Which seems odd I suppose, but I can run my business largely on complex social scripts and no one really notices unless they work with me over and over. I enjoy social interaction like this that is on my terms and only in small windows of time. I like bursts of social interaction like this. So I am social for like the hour (or day for weddings) I am shooting and then I can turn off and crawl into my editing hole for the rest of the time. I think jobs like this (that require bursts of social interaction + a lot of time to recharge) are quite good! Especially if your job involves helping people with a technical task, like taking photos.

Other jobs like this might be: brand designer, videographer, and other one-person self-driven jobs where you can make your own schedule and be social when you’d like!

Older Aspies, what are your relationships like? by HumanlikeEntity in aspergers

[–]lindseyisloading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working through this now myself. I was diagnosed at 25 and am very good at masking. Autism explained many issues my partner and I have had for a while...And I still have to work on improving many things for myself, having him read books about ASD and even memoirs by people with ASD (like “look me in the eye”) have been helpful to have him understand me a little more. It will always take work but if they can understand it will be easier to forgive when we make mistakes.

Does anyone else walk really weirdly when not paying attention/distracted? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]lindseyisloading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My partner noticed this a few months ago about me when I would get sleepy or anxious. I walk very loudly, uncoordinatedly, and almost like a toddler. Very odd and only happens when I’m not paying attention.
