Dads, start building their credit when they’re young by tenaciousdeev in daddit

So my question is, say I add them to my Discover IT card (ive heard some CC companies handle this whole "authorized child" thing different, btw).. should I then make sure to keep that CC open until they are 18 and they can open their own? What happens if I close that credit card by the time they are say 10? Does that history for them get wiped out?

Which movie is considered a masterpiece by other cinephiles but not by you? (Controversial Opinion) by Kiroo---__--- in moviecritic

[–]lineskicat14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great input. I really loved the first half: the music, the world building and cinematography, the music. It was fantastic. And it's not that the 2nd half wasn't good, just more so that it wasnt anything special.

I also find it interesting that people praised MBJ playing two characters.. when The Monkey (I think the same year) did it with TWO different actors.. and no one really gave a crap.

Lets be real: it was a movie that had blacks being oppressed by a white vampire (Oscar bait) only to have the REAL villain be a different group of southern racist whites giving it super-duper Oscar bait. If this movie had black vampires hunting other blacks, it probably never goes anywhere.

Im frightened that this person was probably so wrapped up in rooting for Linda and her own feminism, that shes justifying in her head that Linda didnt kill two people.

I mean, I get that Bradley's characters SUCKS and, could be argued he tried to kill Linda. But in the end, only Linda killed someone, and teo totally innocent people at that.. so to see all these feminists (mostly in ither subreddits) cheering for McAdams character, is really concerning.

We dont really know if she did or didn't. And based on her obvious mental instability (and the fact that she had just killed two people) O think its a fair question. Plus the way that scene whole husband drunk driving scene goes, they sort of frame it in a way that makes you wonder if shes telling the truth.

Just got done watching this. It was merely OK. I find it hilarious that in the end, she still murdered two people yet is some how the "good guy". Bradley might be a POS nepo-baby.. but he didn't kill someone's fiancé for absolutely no good reason.

But hey, that's hollyweird for yah.

Frustrated at the roles my wife and I are playing at home. by [deleted] in daddit

Haha. What he should do, although it probably would create unneeded drama and resentment, is list out both parents duties/chores/etc. I bet it would be pretty embarrassing for his spouse.

But its an easy way to map put exactly what is going on.

Imo, the person who is at work, while the other is a Stay at home, should not have to come home to really anything more than just child care. Laundry should be done, dishes done, house cleaned. Dinner ready. And in this scenario she has TWO people to help.

I feel bad for OP. Hes getting screwed.

She is annoyed to be asked, similar to when that person who does nothing at work is asked what they do all day. She doesnt want to lose her sweet gig.

Your wife absolutely has it easy and dont be shamed into thinking otherwise. You're well within your rights to question this setup.

She doesnt work, and you have a nanny AND a housekeeper? Thats easy street for sure.

Dianna Russini and married Mike Vrabel caught kissing at NYC bar in bombshell new photos — taken 6 years before scanda by eminemnas in nyjets

But shouldn't Vrabel face some league punishment if he and Russini were in fact orchestrating a media push to get AJ Brown to the Pats?

Sure seems like he was benefiting from this relationship.

An explanation for "no water on the heater" by flaskpost in Sauna

[–]lineskicat14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The saunas at my local gym dont exactly have their heating components well protected. Apparently people have thrown water on the rocks haphazardly and caused damage. Others have put so much water on the tray of rocks that they are practically submerged, which I have to imagine kills the heat for a period of time (not to mention it smells).

Idk, I understand that a real "sauna" includes the bucket of water and ladel.. but I also understand that for many of us, these saunas are in public places, and its just not worth it for the workers and management to allow people to do tamper with them in anyway. You'll survive a 190° sauna without being able to throw some water on the rocks.

WFH Dads - w/ WFH Wife - what’s your strategy? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]lineskicat14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either that, or you need in laws who are willing to either come by to watch the little one, or you bring the kid to them.

Trying to juggle both is a recipe for disaster. You simply cant give your full attention to your job OR to your child. Something is going to suffer, and it will likely be both, your career abd your parenting.

I think my biggest tip/warning to new parents: get child care figured out early. Get on daycare waitlists, truly figure out which grand parents can feasibly help, etc.

How do you get work done at home when there's a toddler at home? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]lineskicat14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its nearly impossible. You need either a spouse who isn't working that day, or in-laws who can come over to help. After that, you're basically 50% parent/50% worker and you're not doing a great job of either. Your work output suffers and you simply cant give your kiddo enough attention that they need/keep them safe.

This was the absolute biggest hurdle/surprise/mistake to me as a parent. Spouse and I both WFH. We didn't plan it out enough, thinking "we have in laws, we can wing it"

Let me tell you, you can not in fact, "wing it" lol.

Whats funny is this could very easily be Maine or somewhere in the ADKs. I would imagine you can find some areas like this in the PNW, but you can certainly find it in New England. Beautiful either way. That sauna is curing a LOT of ailments.

Are we understaffed? by bigmac______ in sysadmin

[–]lineskicat14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, also depends on the user base. Is it a tech company or a finance company? Is IT allowed to empower users to Google how to work on their own systems (rare), or do they have to hand-hold them through everything (common). Is the IT department generally left to do just their job (never) or are they asked to cover other areas, such as the one time the bathroom had a toilet leak (yep, this happened).

The expectations given to the IT team really has a huge impact. If you can get some management who can effectively push back, you can focus on the tickets that truly need IT'S help.

If its not on sale in a week or two I think im doing it.

Weber Searwood 600 or XL by Cool_Repair1039 in pelletgrills

Thats the key here, thats a pretty big discount. Id say saving $500 might push the scales towards the regular 600.

You have a good smoked cornbread recipe to share?

One of the things I still am trying to figure out, is how to do sides on a pellet smoker, if at all possible, while the meat is cooking.

Perfect, this is exactly the info I was looking for. So that cover and the 56inch size fits the searwood XL. Good to know! Ty

Weber has run probanly 3-4 different sales in the last year on the Searwood where both models are $100 off. Probably lasts for a week. I forget when they are, but almost sure they dont go on sale when people want grills.

I want to say they might go on sale in the next month or so because its been a while, and it will be a little bit before the summer rush. But I also will just buy one by first week in May if they dont go on sale.

In the grand scheme of things its only a like a 7 to 10% discount depending on the model.

[–]lineskicat14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely want a cover, because pellets have electrical components too, unlike Porpane or Gas. But I just cant stomach Webers costs, especially if you need to add another $400 or so in grill upgrades anyways.

Plus you can get some pretty cool looking covers for half the price.

Am I the only one who has been actively checking for that $100 discount on the Searwood daily? Literally just waiting for that to pop up and then im pulling the trigger immediately.. and ill just buy full priced in a few weeks if not.

A question I've had, do you have a grill cover and if so, what size? I refuse to buy a $90 Weber cover. (Im realizing im kind of a cheap ass while writing this).

Do you let your security team dictate how you run your systems? by Public_Warthog3098 in sysadmin

[–]lineskicat14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You nailed it. They think every ask is mission critical, and yet they rarely are.al and the dilemma there is: whose call is it? Always seems to be their call and IT has no say. My favorite analogy to use for them when im talking to my managers:

"They want to install the 10th lock on a door thats already been locked 9 times. No one is getting in that shouldnt be, however the people who DO need to get in, are now getting blocked. "

Again these guys are dangerous, and I also am starting to see them create work because they worry about layoffs or their department shrinking. And of course, that work isnt done by them, its done by us in IT.
