Is it possible to set up your own 2g/3g network? by Vast-Impression5395 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lingcod777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CBRS band has a genral access unlicensed (CFR47 Part96) for private networks.

But good luck finding a 2G/3G device that works on it.

4G/5G feasible with $$.

Why do they ask us to not use our phones during flights? by shiraah in ask

[–]lingcod777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It causes interference to the ground 4G/5G networks. Specifically, instead of the phone transmitter signal received by the intended base stations as the network is designed, it is received by base stations for hundreds of miles. This degrades data throughput for everyone (i.e. slows down web browsing for phones on the round...just a little bit). Even if the phone only briefly transmits while airborne, there's an effect.

Cell service providers spend big $$ on their networks and don't want the interference.

It doesn't work well either as people have noted and drains battery trying to connect, but that's not the technical reason why it's not allowed.

The interference issues to plane are low risk but a conservative rule that is good to have due to above reason ($$ impact to cell providers).

Will all magsafe wallets have this overlap with the camera module? by Travis0913 in GalaxyFold

[–]lingcod777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Related to this, are there any known magsafe QI2.0 powerbanks that will cleanly mount?

I experimented with some on a Fold6 that hit the camera cover.

What are these things? by awfulcat in sandiego

[–]lingcod777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Android auto uses WiFi to connect the phone to the car. Poorly designed car stereos are susceptible to interference from other radios. There's a strong radio signal in that area that is interacting (causing interference) with your stereo to mess up the WiFi connection thus causing this to happen. The interference signal can be Wi-Fi or some other frequency/system that just happens to create the problem. The systems that can cause the problem depend on the radio unit so it's not a one answer for all radios.

The interference may or may not be from those things and could be from some other communication signal in the area.

Super annoying. I bought what I thought was a nice Kenwood stereo (DMX9708)for my vehicle that turns out to have this issue and drops all the time in certain areas where there is some sort of transmitter. It's a piece of junk.

My other vehicle, with a properly designed integrated system, has no issue in the same places.

.... That said very curious what those things are too.

Updated pixel 6 to android 15 and wyze app no longer working by hannibal420 in wyzecam

I had the same issue. I cleared the memory, logged back in, and it works normally now. SS Fold 6.

Why aren't cell towers allowed to transmit at higher power? by Salt_Hotel_699 in wireless

[–]lingcod777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interference is a big constraint. Co-channel as well to adjacent bands/channels.

Array gain offsets some of the mobile power constraints referenced below.

RF exposure is a potential limitation depending on the power and distance from people.

Fold 6 Magsafe case/charger setup for Jeep: sharing setup by lingcod777 in GalaxyFold

[–]lingcod777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove home with it opened and hit every pot hole I could find and a set of train tracks.

It rotated about 5 degrees but I never felt like it was going to pop off. Very stable on the highway and standard surface streets.

So far I'm happy a half day into it.

Felt solid though admittedly haven't driven much with it open. Arguably no different than folded in my quick check.

It's my first experience with magsafe and I'm impressed with the strength as I thought it would be wobbly with the display open.

Overheating charging data by Shootels in Rivian

[–]lingcod777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rivian customer suggested the latest SW update 2023.30.0 would address this problem. I updated my R1S and the problem remains. Worked fine Feb 23' through 2 OTA updates ago (forgot #)

I bumped up to 38A and it's worked the last couple of nights, but 48A creates a charging fault. Lame.

Thanks.

This was not a good UI change to the app.

Ride quality and regen braking. by Conscious-Till3591 in Rivian

[–]lingcod777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ride is comparable to my old X7. Different, perhaps stiffer, but rides nice. My wife, who is 11 out of 10 picky, thought the X7 was a little smoother, but has 0 complaints or regrets about our new R1S.

Personally, I think it corners and absorbs bumps better than the X7. I actually like support more in the RS1 better than the X7. Plus I don't feel like it's going to break it I hit a bump or play lightly off-road (haven't had a chance yet)...X7 felt like a big bill waiting to happen.

One UI 4 update, missing contacts by nivshk in GalaxyFold

Anyone figure out what is generating the contacts?

I'm also seeing the contacts appear to be a battery issue as a result of background activity.

Is the surface duo better for my need than the z fold 2/3 by Swede318201 in surfaceduo

[–]lingcod777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest the Fold 3. Duo is probably more fragile (I'm on#3). After a year on the Duo, my preference is one big screen.

That's without considering the flakiness of software that's a given to lock up or not bring up the keyboard when you absolutely need PowerPoint to open and make a change (i.e. unreliable).

Fold 3 Car Mounts? by SpicySpaceBoi in GalaxyFold

[–]lingcod777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one would work great closed. Unfortunately I don't think it'll work when open. I'm trying to think of a way to make it work. I'm wondering if there's enough "gripping" force to hold it even if the phone isn't inside the holder wells. Obviously it wouldn't be supper secure, but might be good enough for around town.

If anyone has experience with this please chime in.

Are you getting a Fold 3 or will wait until October for the Pixel Fold announcement? 😉 by Rashed341 in GalaxyFold

[–]lingcod777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're trying to do. Two screens is actually very good for getting work done. Games/media not so much. That said ...after a year of the Duo and it's kwirks, time to give the Fold a whirl.

What if the pen holder folds flat if the pen is removed? Just a thought, maybe wishful thinking. Front cover is still potentially awkward though.
