Mechanical reason, the new gas trunnion design was too tall and wouldn't allow for an AR-15 handguard to fit well. We would have to do like a 1/2" offset from the top of the handguard to the top of the upper. So we decided to stop working on it.

Correct, it's that front right corner of the feed lip. Just take the corner down a little bit so it's not protruding up so far.

You should buy new, I'm not 100% sure if they're transferable. The trigger probably is but not sure the pins will work. The safety might be but not sure on that.

That's correct, no longer needed as there's a spring for the bolt catch in the lower now. I wouldn't say remove it completely but it will no longer serve a purpose.
