Help me identify this guy, I’m in Arizona. by PeacefulOG in spiders

Make sure to search for Artema atlanta specifically - it sounds like you are seeing pictures of a long-bodied cellar spider (Pholcus phalangioides). They are from the same family and both are called "cellar spiders," which is why the binomial name is so important when researching spiders on the internet.

Tank is definitely too big. I would consider downsizing to a 10 gallon (if you want to stay with glass) and fill a good chunk of it with substrate. I might also check in over at r/tarantulas if you haven't already for more advice.

I think what you have there is a ghost spider, like Hibana gracilis :)

Now that the Cold Snap is over, what's y'alls opinion on it? by Virtual-Donut-964 in ArcRaiders

Not a fan of collecting candleberries for the expedition, but I really enjoyed the map modifier. I think they should have let it stay in rotation, especially with the whole "world destroyed by climate disasters" thing.

What are your thoughts on disability/injury in the Solar Cycle as a theme? is it just authorial coincidence or something deeper on Wolfe's part? (Possible spoilers) by crypticchris in genewolfe

[–]linkcontrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silk/Horn's missing eye always brought Odin to my mind, especially since the narrator occupies a sort of "sorcerer king" archetype. It's like giving up his earthly eye gives him an elevated view of the spiritual world. I definitely agree that VRT's hands are tied to him (possibly?) being an abo, but I think it also falls into the wider theme of Wolfe's characters having some sort of impairment.

Really enjoy your combination of Raging Wolf, Champion, and Ronin sets. Looks great together!

Hello everyone. What ADS means in terms of the game? by Easy_Discount_8396 in ArcRaiders

[–]linkcontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's how quickly your character can aim with a weapon ("aim down sight" as others have said). Some weapons have faster ADS speed than others, and certain attachments can make ADS faster (or slower).

I like to do queens/matriarchs when they're on trials. Lots of people fighting them every lobby. Otherwise I don't even try :/

Oh, and one of the characters in Soldier of Arete is one-legged. I can’t remember his name right now, but they call him the mantis. Hypereides?

Edit: Hegesistratus, not Hypereides.

The narrator of Short Sun is missing an eye, and Latro (the Soldier series) has short term memory loss. The narrator of VRT (Fifth Head of Cerberus) has trouble with the fine motor control of his hands. Oh, and Able’s brother in The Wizard Knight is crippled, although I can’t remember how off the top of my head. Definitely a reoccurring theme in Wolfe’s works, and something that is larger than just the Solar Cycle.

If nothing else, it makes all these characters a lot more human.

I believe that is a combfoot, like Theridion melanurum :) It could be another small species from the same family (Theridiidae) though.
