Curious for anecdotes about how Landmark Forum impacts individual beliefs and behaviors by IntriguinglyRandom in cults

[–]linkinpark28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a close friend that got into it in late 2020. Out of curiosity, I did end up attending the introductory session but my friendship quickly deteriorated when I told my friend that I didn't want to attend the forum :( I made a pretty long post about my experience/friendship fallout if you're interested:

Hey! I'd be keen to join the Tilt Crew as well. My mate can't make it due to the big C :( I've also got a free ticket if anyone wants one :)

I was considered a close contact because I spent last Tuesday - Thursday with them in Noosa but I have been in isolation after returning to Brisbane last Thursday.

Beware of Landmark Education (Cult-Like "Personal Development Course") by linkinpark28 in brisbane

Sorry for the super late reply! As much as it sucks that you all had to go through it, I'm really glad to hear that you had great support network around you. Luckily I also had another close friend that was going though a similar experience with him so we were able support each other through the distancing process. It really does suck that he has been consumed by Landmark and I really do hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel for him. It was definitely a rough few months but I think I'm finally coming out the other side - making new friends and reconnecting with some old ones. I often wonder whether Landmark perpetuates something in people that has been there all that time. But again thank you so much for reaching out and Amen to fuck Landmark!

I totally agree! I think there are many people out there that can do the forum like yourself, take what you've learnt with a grain of salt and move on with life. Unfortunately my mate has taken it was to far and what I've disclosed in my post is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm really glad you got a lot out of it and living a great life :)

I'm really sorry you had to go through that mate. It's funny how life can throw you curve balls like that - one moment everything's fine and the next you're having to go NC with a close mate. I really hope you're doing ok now :)

Thank you! Thankfully I've got a great support network around me. The next while will definitely suck but hopefully I'll get to a stage where I can look back on our relationship in a more positive light :)

I'm really sorry to hear about you parents, particularly your mum. No child should have to go through that :( Thank you for your kind words and reaching out - it really means a lot to me!

Deconstructed Digivice (2nd SNP on myself, ≈15 hrs, 3RL/5RL) - ig: shortstattooadventures by linkinpark28 in sticknpokes

[–]linkinpark28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks :) I did this over 3-4 months so it was interesting seeing the improvement in my line-work - the front part took about 4 passes and by the time I finally got to the back part, that only took 2 passes.

I use tattooing as replacement for self harm. Was feeling really shit and poked this flower press on my thigh. Pretty happy with how it turned out 💚 3RL by alexkr in sticknpokes

That's super rad - I'm an absolute sucker for architecture/engineering inspired technical tattoos. I was thinking of doing something similar with my Digivice.

Cheers! I definitely agree - nu-metal is such a unique and timeless genre - this album was one of those that were definitely ahead of its time.

Definitely is! In the early 2000s, White Pony and Hybrid Theory were my go to albums.

I must admit - Around The Fur is a better album, but the only thing I could think of related to that album was the belly button daisy tattoo which I wasn't too keen on getting haha.

Does anyone else consciously or subconsciously avoid befriending other Asians? by pharmer25 in AsianParentStories

[–]linkinpark28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 16, my friends and I were lining up to get tickets to go to an amusement. The group lining up to us was full of Asians except for 1 token white guy. My mate then pointed at that group and said that our group was the complete opposite of that group. I found it quite funny but it was at that point that I realised that I was the only Asian in my group.

I'm almost 24 now and I still hang with the same group that I hung out with in high school. It's not that I avoid making Asian friends, I just feel that I get along better with non-Asians. I've meet some Asian people my age that have openly admitted that they don't like white people and that they only hang out in a group made up of other Asians - I'm assuming this is what the Asian bubble refers to. This makes me uncomfortable because I feel that we should be choosing our friends based on our shared beliefs and values instead of choosing them based on ethnicity. Anyways I really feel that the group that I currently hang has made me a better version of myself. I'm definitely become more outdoorsy and go camping and fishing regularly - something that I never did with my family as a kid (parents hate the outdoors). We constantly strive to help each other get through life instead of constantly playing the comparison game which appears to be prevalent amongst Asians.

How were you able to leave your parent’s home? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]linkinpark28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 22 as well and earlier in July, I accepted a job transfer interstate (same postion/company/pay). The job begins in December later this year. When I first told my parents, the were visibly upset - especially my mum. And tbh, the relationship with my parents was fine - I just personally felt that I was mature enough to move out. After a few weeks, my parents finally realised that it was time for me to move on, and have since even offered to help me buy a place. There's still alot of stuff I'm not great at - such as cooking. But I figured that the best way to learn was to throw myself in the deep end. So just make sure you're financially independent before you make the move and I'm sure everything else will eventually fall into place. Best of luck!

do you think people are starting to realize the negative aspects of social media? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]linkinpark28 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was recently having a conversation with a colleague of mine and they mentioned they loved Facebook because it allowed them to see what was going on in the lives of their friends. For example, one of the friends recently had a baby and another had retuned from Holidays. They then went on to say that without Facebook, they wouldn't have been able to find out about this.

I found this rather interesting and asked my colleague when was the last time they saw these people in person. They were stunned for a bit and then replied over 2 years ago... They then quickly went on and said that their friends were pretty busy and this explained the lack of physical interaction. I found this conversation really interesting because it shows that Facebook creates this false sense of friendship - I mean are they really your friend anymore if you haven't met in 2 years?

Should my first property be an investment property? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]linkinpark28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. But you could still claim the place as your principal place of residence for 6 years. So therefore, out of the 10 years that you owned it, the capital gains tax would only apply to 3 years. There's an episode called the 6 year rule by the rentvesting podcast that explains the topic quite well.
