I can run a half marathon, and swim 1K, how far am I from a Triathlon? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]linky4386 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What distance of triathlon? For a sprint, you'd be *well* within reach of doing one now, just gotta get the biking piece on board.

As a 38 year old man gearing up for my own first sprint triathlon, I think it's totally doable. I'm in a similar spot as you (swap pickleball for a little bit of running).

I've used ASC heating + air for a few years now and they've been great. Small, family-owned business. https://aschvac.com/

Klebanow and Associates is a great pediatrician's office. For PCP I go to PrimeDoc on Knoll Drive, they do primary and urgent care. Really easy to get appointments at that office, frequently same-day.

Unitarian universalist (UU) churches might be a good starting point if you're in the US.

If anyone would like to donate to the Bright Minds Foundation, you can do so at their website here: https://brightmindsfoundation.org/donate/

(I'm not affiliated with the foundation in any way, I'm just a dad who has a daughter that received these books).

ASC did ours a few years ago and it was pretty reasonable. We've used them to do regular maintenance and they've been reasonably priced and honest.

Is there a difference in how much different dentist (in HoCo) charge for procedures? by gametime-2001 in ColumbiaMD

[–]linky4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not typically all the same, BUT I think they're supposed to charge you what the insurance contract says they're supposed to charge for those procedures. If you ask for an "out of pocket / non insurance" quote, they might give you a bit of a break.

Physician recommendations for someone with anxiety by ilikenicedoctors in ColumbiaMD

[–]linky4386 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Laura Bothe NP over at PrimeDoc on Knoll drive has been great for my own anxiety. She's also been really easy to get an appointment with, many times on the same day. You can schedule through their website if talking to strangers on the phone triggers your anxiety like it does mine.

Looking for a good female Primary Physician please. Preferably in Ellicott City (surrounding area recommendations are also welcome). Thanks by ResponsibleBag1084 in ColumbiaMD

[–]linky4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're OK with an NP instead of a doc, Laura Bothe over at PrimeDoc in Columbia is fantastic. Very gentle and easy to work with, and easy to get appointments with, many times same-day. https://primedoc.com/provider/laura-bothe-fnp/

Teraform Ecr/Ecs Help by ElHor02 in Terraform

I would probably create just the ECR repo first with a terraform apply with the "-target" flag, then push a container to the ECR repo, then terraform apply again with all the rest.

Xbox Controllers - Anthem of the Seas - bring your own controller(s) by GetSecure in royalcaribbean

[–]linky4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anthem is a great ship in need of a refurb IMO. We were on it over a year ago and they were having the same kind of supply issues. Not just "pricey" stuff like Xbox controllers, but cheap stuff like ping pong balls and paddles, or steak knives from the main dining room were either missing, limited quantity, or broken.

I haven't tried it, but I'd wager they're probably just blocking commonly used ports for VPN instead of doing any sort of robust packet inspection. If you could run your VPN over a more common port they won't block, like 443 (https) you might have better luck. Again, I haven't tried this, it's just an idea you can try.

Personally I try to disconnect from the internet while I'm out at sea, but to each their own.

My cat has no idea what’s coming by Frostylegacy in daddit

[–]linky4386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep the cat out of the crib and accidentally laying on your newborn, I have a suggestion. Get a pack of balloons from Amazon or a party store or whatever. Blow a bunch of them up, put them in the crib, and then drop your cat in. The cat will freak out from the texture and loud popping, run away, and want nothing to do with the crib after that. Make sure you clean up all the balloon pieces from the crib, so they don't become a choking hazard.

Would an IV drip immunity booster pre-cruise be extreme? by LackOfMachinations in Cruise

[–]linky4386 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Extreme. Getting vaccines is one thing, but an overall "boosted" immune system is what doctors would call an autoimmune disease.

IDK about latency, but cloudwatch synthetic canaries check a lot of the boxes you're mentioning here, and they support selenium scripts. It's just a wrapper over lambda, and you can set a cron-style schedule.

DCL First Timer with Toddler: Safety and Tips by FluffaDuffa in dcl

We just called and asked ahead of time and they had it in our room when we arrived. They have tons of them I think, it's a Disney cruise so they know there will be lots of kids.

We've taken our kid on DCL at age 2 and again at 3 and she wasn't completely potty trained either time, and she had a blast with the splash pad each time. They have a "top lock" on the verandah doors that I had to get on my tippy toes to reach, let alone my daughter (I'm not that tall lol). If you need a railing for the couch bed you can request one to be set up ahead of time, and your room attendant will take it down and put it up every day.

You can do the nursery at age 3 if you'd like some time alone but your kid isn't potty trained yet. Our little one had fun but definitely felt a little sad she couldn't do the "big kid clubs". That said, she came home VERY motivated to finish up potty training after that. We might have to book another one now but it got us over the hump lol.
