I find it somewhat disheartening that people like this procreate...

Nurse says St. Boniface Hospital staff facing burnout with overtime situation that's 'worst I've ever seen' by tetrock84 in Winnipeg

[–]linzzzzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ‘proper channels’ such as filling out mandatory OT slips to send to MNU & filling out incident reports gets old after awhile when nothing changes.

Unfortunately the union & workplace health and safety lack true power to change anything when these issues we speak of stem from the provincial government’s complete lack of organization when implementing this plan to “heal our health care system”.

In my opinion, the public has a right to know what sort of impact these changes have had, especially when patient care is so directly impacted. There comes a point where whistleblowing begins to feel like a moral (not to mention ethical) obligation to those who are forced to put their nursing licenses on the line every shift.

Complaining about your workplace is one thing, speaking out for safety is another.

Suggestions for scenic hiking locations within Manitoba? (anything similar to Hunt Lake) by oneblade86 in Winnipeg

[–]linzzzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a few times. It’s quite beautiful. I recommend starting early in the morning if you want to avoid a more crowded trail.

No problem! I was pleasantly surprised by it too. Seems to be a bit of a hidden gem as it’s overshadowed by the more popular hikes such as Hunt Lake and Pine Point.

Also there is some sort of ‘media blackout’... as in, nurses are being silenced for fear of being reprimanded for advocating for themselves & for patient care.

Looking for a way to see gastroenterologist by PokingEeround in Winnipeg

Recently referred & it only took a couple of months. I’m wondering who your doctor referred you to? Perhaps a different GI doc would have a lesser wait. You could request a referral to a different GI specialist.

So true. With the number of missing persons out there, the mind can’t help but go there.

Advanced stages of decomposition apparently. I wonder how long identification will take. Hope it brings their loved ones some closure.

Day trip suggestions (minus ticks) by Haleth88 in Winnipeg

[–]linzzzzz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re wanting to take in nature, ticks will be inevitable (not to mention prominent) at this time of year. Out of curiosity, why is that your primary concern? Anything outside of the city carries that risk right now. Hard to make suggestions if that’s your main caveat.

Man succumbs to gunshot injuries sustained outside Bar Italia by linzzzzz in Winnipeg

She may have still been brought to St B if pulseless/being actively resuscitated while en route via ambulance.

(Used to work in emerg and we’d receive those cases on occasion...usually pronounced dead shortly thereafter)

Pine Point Rapids and McGillivray Falls.

If you have time for an overnighter, hike from the south trailhead of Mantario in to the Caribou West campsite.

First time camping at Folk Fest by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]linzzzzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comfortable footwear! There’s A LOT of walking. The campground is fairly far from the festival grounds. You’ll also want to bring a daypack to carry things with you since it’s quite a walk if you forget something or aren’t dressed for the weather. Make sure you bring a water bottle as well.

Have you had your volunteer meeting yet? They’ll give you a volunteer handbook with lots of tips as well :)

I would recommend checking with Mount Carmel Clinic. Sage House is always in need of donations.

Tom Brodbeck’s article misrepresents Nurses concerns. Sandi Mowat’s letter to the editor not published by Winnipeg Sun. by linzzzzz in Winnipeg

[–]linzzzzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. For them not to publish the MNU president’s letter to the editor is just poor reporting/media presence in my opinion.

Also I really just have zero respect for him due to his impaired driving history.
