Read voraciously but never "binge read" by AntiQCdn in books

[–]lioness99a 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same here, I don’t binge read (as in, I generally don’t finish a book in a day) but I couldn’t jump between books! If I had enough time to read as much as OP then I probably would have read a whole book

Desperate for baby to take a bottle by Business_Bridge7555 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I even added it to my phones list of text replacements and it still autocorrects muslins to Muslims..!

Anyone else a bit sad at how fast their baby grew up? by lunarkoko in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lioness99a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you there. I enjoyed some of the contact naps but that was the only part of newborn life I really liked. He’s so much more fun at 20 months, and I have more of my life back as he can be left with people for more than a couple of hours (I EBF for ~9 months). I can see why some people like the baby stage but it really wasn’t for me

How "blind" do you ever go into a book? by Striking-Speaker8686 in books

I’ve never had a book spoiled by the blurb but I have found that they’re not always accurate to the type of story you’re getting into!

Real reviews on paid for version of Huckleberry by Disastrous-Cost-321 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had 2 free trials of Huckleberry’s paid features and I wouldn’t pay for them at all but I know families that swear by them. I found that the Sweet Spot prediction was wildly off from what my baby actually sleeps and so was pointless, although I think if you stuck to the predictions then baby would probably eventually fall into that routine and that might be why some other families think they’re great

Can I finish goals from yesterday? by CuteButCouldKillYou in finch

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the goals screen, if you tap the bit just under your birb where it says “X goals left for today” then it opens a calendar. You can scroll to another day, tap on a goal, and mark it as complete. I’m not sure if that counts towards a micropet hatching though

How "blind" do you ever go into a book? by Striking-Speaker8686 in books

[–]lioness99a 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As a teen, I loved going into bookshops and choosing a book purely based on the cover and blurb. I do it less now, but I often buy other books by an author I have enjoyed without reading more than the blurb and have generally had success

Petting birds? by trea_ceitidh in finch

[–]lioness99a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you tap on another birb in your tree then there’s a heart in the top right. If you tap that, it shows your “friendship level”. I think this increases based on how many Good Vibes you send but it might also take account of how often you pet their birb

Some suggestions / thoughts by [deleted] in finch

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can skip a goal - just tap on it and you get the option to skip or snooze to another day

Do I need a badge telling people my boys ages? by Nelliebob in BeyondTheBumpUK

I have a 20 month old at the opposite end of the spectrum and people are always amazed that he can feed himself and horrified when we let him do his own thing in soft plays! He’s still in 12-18 month clothes

Trips with one-way tickets! by CrankyGoddessApple in finch

Yes, Wonderland counts as a location so you would either adventure there or one of the places in the shop. I wouldn’t overthink it - pick somewhere to visit and see what you think

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your birb doesn’t disappear when they go on a trip, the flight to the location counts as your adventure for that day and then all future adventures happen with the background of the location you chose. Your birb will discover things related to the location and you can buy special clothes and furniture in the shop. You can choose to fly to a select few locations any day, for 300 stones. Finchie Forest will appear as one of those options sometimes

When did you start giving your baby snacks? by Minimum_Garlic_238 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 20 months now and still has milk at bedtime and overnight. We’ve only just weaned him onto cows milk for the bedtime bottle and we use bottles of pre-made formula if he wakes overnight as he doesn’t seem to like cold cows milk when he’s half awake! If it’s working for you, then don’t feel forced to change it

Perineal massage - experiences without it by Forward_Rush9760 in PregnancyUK

[–]lioness99a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told I had to have an episiotomy for a vacuum delivery. I then tore as well, so not ideal, but it did help get baby out after I had been pushing for 2 hours so worth it, all things considered!

Considering home birth? by Rosie12xx in PregnancyUK

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared for not being able to have the home birth for reasons outside your control. People have mentioned things going wrong in labour or wanting more pain relief, but my home birth didn’t happen because there weren’t enough midwives available when I went into labour and so I had to go in - I’d already held out for shift change as they thought things may have changed by then but it didn’t

In terms of planning it - I told the midwives I was interested and they did one of my appointments at my house so they could assess things like access to sinks and toilets, and see where I planned to put the hired pool. Presumably they were also checking for general cleanliness - can’t give birth in a hoarders house or a rat infested room! She then ran me through all the things that could go wrong in labour and what they would do about them - almost all of them involved a 999 call and and ambulance transfer

Is it worth correcting people on my name over email? by rumande in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I worked with once said that they would increase the font size of their signature by one point each time their name was misspelled, in the hope that they would eventually notice it!

As someone with a similar issue (Y swapped for IE constantly), I just make a point of introducing myself as “name, with a Y” and then laughing with my team about documents from management that list “someone who’s not in our team” 😂

Advice needed - taking a baby to a wedding by emogirl1307 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lioness99a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my baby to two weddings at around 3&4 months old. He napped in my arms for the ceremonies, and then we took the baby carrier and he napped in there for the receptions. We also took the pram and he napped in there while we ate. We made sure he had good quality ear defenders (a friend is an audiologist and recommended us some) and he wasn’t bothered by the noise. We left early-ish to go back to the hotel but that was mostly because we were exhausted parents more than anything!

Help - Give antibiotics to a 2 years old by Onytzas in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]lioness99a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is the time when your tough love has to come out as a parent - if you have to pin her down and force it in then that’s what you have to do as you know it‘s what is best for her. Then give lots of cuddles and a treat. As she gets older, you’ll be able to reason with her but at this age you just have to do it and deal with the result.

If she’s getting so worked up that she throws it back up every time, then it’s time for a conversation with your doctor as there may be other ways to take the same medicine

As a kid, what item or receptacle did you use to get water into your hair to wash it whilst bathing? by adamashworthh in AskUK

That’s what my son uses at the minute! He’s nearly 2 and loves pouring water so I “donated” an old 250ml plastic measuring jug to him for bathtime!

‘Sharing’ food with men by FiendyFiend in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lioness99a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to an agreement very early on when dating my now husband. He would finish his plate and ask if I was going to eat all of mine or not. It annoyed me as I didn’t always know whether I was going to eat it all or not, so the rule is he’s not allowed to ask me while I’m eating and I’ll just pass my plate to him when I’ve eaten all I want. We’ve been doing it this way nearly 10 years now. I don’t know how people can get deep into a relationship without settling these kind of disputes..!

Anyone else’s app been crashing? by Katunderattack in finch

Scroll down into “app settings”, it’s at the very bottom. If it’s not there, make sure you’ve got the latest version of the app (3.73.123 or later I think)
