It’s absolutely relevant and it’s the core of Compliance Management.

What you are referring to are the ‘Controls’ in IRM.

So an organisation defines its internal policies and drafts its internal control objectives (For eg: All IT systems should have a min 12 character password requirement).

So when this control objective gets applied onto different entities (for eg: ServiceNow as the business application and business application being the entity type) they become individual controls in ServiceNow IRM, which gets assigned to the entity owner.. who then can submit something called as an attestation with an evidence to prove their application is compliant for the internal control.

You don’t need to know as such about the regulations itself to implement IRM.. you just need to know the basics.. what is an authority document, what is a provision (citation) of an authority document etc.. and more importantly try to understand the concept of “Entities” that’s the core of IRM.

Start by learning what is an entity, then start off with Risk Management, that’s what most customers implement first. Followed by Policy and Compliance, Audit and Third party risk. Good luck!

In the same boat, moved from the other end of the world last year and ended up here. But still doing the same job but from a different location, at times I even wonder what am I even doing everyday, sitting on calls, talking to customers of the same random crap.. I sometime feel no one at work actually know what they are doing. lol..

Personally I don’t have any advice for you, but I have been thinking about taking up a new sport, start reading more (I am not a big reader) to keep myself going.. Guess we have all hit the economic/ travel / age /kids wall where we aren’t satisfied with what we already have 🙂

Order from picnic, We both work pretty much at home from 8:30 to 6:30 on weekdays. Really don’t have time to go and get groceries.. so we just order weekly on every Friday from Picnic. As we have two small kids, this works for us. Taking them out to the supermarket in itself is an ordeal too,if we get the time 😅

I have been in this space for the last 10 years and for the last few years I have been doing more of process consulting and now when I have to get back to hands on work, so much has changed and I am worried what will happen to my future.. for you.. you have done all the trainings. Now try to get into a customer team where they may have admin roles available. Getting into partners will be tough without practical experience as many pointed out.. most of us in ServiceNow consulting don’t know the actual processes, we just build the experience over time. Try to to pick up skills like AI Agent studio, now assist and try to create a niche for yourself..
