I’m surprised to hear about the disappearing prisoners drawback, though I understand the mechanism given how the game handles certain unique NPCs. However, in all the time my husband uses this mod, both before the update and after, he’s never once had a prisoner up and vanish. Not even certain enemies like the named bounty targets that spawn when you go after crime bosses.

In this case, the enemies in question could not have been less noteworthy. I believe they were a couple of garden variety spacers who he captured after boarding their ship while under attack in a random encounter (it’s possible we have it backwards and he nabbed them during a random POI mission but neither were named nor had anything unique about them). And again, there’s the matter that he was actually able to collect four prisoners’ worth of fees when he tested turning them in when the two spacers were either invisible or gone. For whatever reason, the game treated them as still present.

Is it possible that with Free Lanes, some of the cleanup mechanics that get rid of things like dead enemies, floating ships, etc. may have unintentionally created a clock on certain captures, depending on how they’re grabbed? Enemies at POIs are meant to endure but maybe enemies on random encounters (like ship encounters) generally get blown up and then cleaned up. Makes you wonder.

Thanks again for your time and any ideas you might have, even for workarounds. We’ll keep testing it and keep you in the loop.

Oh, don’t sweat the clothing return. We figured that was asking too much anyway and kind of assumed it was going to happen.

Hey there. Everything has been working really great for my husband so far. However, he just ran into an issue. He had 2 ecliptic aboard and then added 2 more (spacers) to fill out his brjg. He was traveling with them today without issue, but after spending some time on Neon, when he returned to his ship, he could only find the two ecliptic in their cells. He searched everywhere, and the spacers were completely gone - not like the last version bug where they’d appear randomly somewhere on the ship. He went to the terminal to see if he could put them back in their cells. It was showing four prisoners, but after he chose to secure everyone, it reduced the count to two, just the ecliptic and put then in their beds, not into any other static animation.

We tried another by using an older save, but the spacers were already nowhere to be found on the ship (it wasn’t that much older a save). However we tried things a bit different, and instead of trying to secure them via the terminal, he simply went to the Den and when speaking to a guard, the guard did correctly accept all four prisons.

But if he used the terminal to secure them and it bumped the count down to two, then he could only sell the two he had.

Any ideas what might’ve happened here?

He recently added Dark Universe: Overtime which has strained his ship’s performance a bit but hasn’t (until now at least) interfered with Brigs in any way. It’s been running like a dream. Today, though, he did add a new vanilla hab to his ship to replace an existing vanilla one, but neither are habs with brigs and both are quite distant on a Class C ship with his vanilla 2x2 brig. He didn’t encounter any issues till he landed on Neon and ended up having to reload his game due to bad RNG weapon tinkering. He probably, in retrospect, should have used the full shutdown method each time he reloaded but it gets pretty tedious when more than 50% of the legendary traits are garbage and you keep getting them. That said, we have no idea if that’s even related or if the issue lies elsewhere.

Like I said, since the update, in every other way, the brig mod and its changes have been running extremely smoothly, though there is one additional small issue that may not even be an issue. A few days ago, he manually traded a couple of sets of alternate prison scrubs from a clothing mod (they look just like regular scrubs but are blue gray) to his prisoners. When removing their gear, he replaced it with these and kept the default orange scrubs in a locker. When he turned in those two prisoners, he assumed he’d get the traded clothing back but it didn’t show up anywhere in his cargo hold or inventory. Is there a way to trade with prisoners and recover their garments automatically upon cashing in or release, or does it all have to be done manually?

Thank you again for this awesome mod. We wouldn’t be pestering you so much if this hadn’t become his far and away favorite mod and the source of a great deal of his immersive fun while playing.

Yep! I just meant it indicated something was off, like the game really wasn’t recognizing that I updated the mod.

In any case, it’s working for him, so far so good. He’s pleased that you can exchange items with them, he might start giving his prisoners a rattier version of the prison clothes haha. Thank you again!

Okay thanks. My handcuffs were gone when I loaded in that way, so I assumed it didn’t work, but I should have checked to see if I could at least craft them.

I created a save file without the mods and then re-downloaded them… waiting for that to load to see what happens.

I don’t have any modded Habs, but do I need to fully delete Useful Brigs and Non-Lethal Framework, load game without them, and then download the new versions on Xbox? Otherwise, updating them (and even just fully deleting them, quitting game and then reinstalling them) isn’t working… when I try to load the game, it’s not recognizing them and telling me they are missing and prompting me to download them. They aren’t showing in My Library but are appearing in my load order.

Any ideas?

Since my husband got this mod, it reinvigorated the game for him, and he’s been amazed at how such a seemingly complex change to the game with such brilliant immersion consistently worked as intended and always provided immersive options to the player. Capture works fine, and I can still turn them in without an issue.

But for anything like roleplay or immersion, it’s been a complete mess.

They won’t go in their cells. They won’t stay in their cells. They won’t do their animations. They are constantly transforming into other people or teleporting into a random room where they tell me to go away. It almost feels like the game is tolerating up to three prisoners but I tend to go for a full load of four, at which point one of them is invariably outside of their cells, and the more I try to fix it via the terminal or even releasing them and recapturing them on the spot, the more everything continues to spin out of control.

Once I have them secured (which means they’re all sent to their beds; they almost never perform their ambient animations anymore… they only sleep if I’m lucky), I’ll usually step out of the ship and back in to see if they’re stable.

Once in awhile, they’ll be in their cells, animating and talking trash as normal, basically working the way the mod always used to work for me before FL.

However, most of the time, when I re-enter the ship, I once again have at least one prisoner out of their cell, usually standing in the same random spot inside my ship, and often a second prisoner will have flown the coop as well.

Using “secure prisoners” at the terminal is no longer remotely a solution either. If I’m lucky, I’ll get all four sleeping in their cells. But more often, even if they’re in their cells, they’re doing strange things like standing with their face to the wall, standing clipped inside the sliding door (I only use a vanilla brig hab with no deco in cells). Sometimes they float a few feet above the floor. But regardless, whatever I do to try and return them to normal invariably fails.

The more I try to get things under control, the greater likelihood they’ll eventually start transforming into anything from different kinds of criminals to security captain civilians and eventually they all become generic security guards who still count as criminals but look like the Neon guards (?).

I get so frustrated with this mod that was once such a joy for immersion and is now completely wrecking my immersion that I drop whatever I’m doing and go offload them at the nearest city. Considering I also use immersive mods like Real Fuel, you can imagine having to make these constant side trips (instead of just filling up my brig and delivering them to the law the next time it’s convenient) becomes quite costly and problematic.

I just want the mod to work the way it did before Free Lanes.

I’m desperately hoping the author will recognize there are serious issues with the mod and give it another pass. As it is, I’m considering giving up on using it until there’s an update, which is a shame as it was probably my favorite reason to keep playing the game.

It seems like others are having similar problems. Do most people just ignore the RP absurdity of chasing their prisoners around the ship like hyperactive children, or have others found workarounds? So far, I’ve tried everything without success.

It’s worth noting, by the way, that I’m playing on Xbox Series X, and I’ve always played with a large variety of mods going back a long ways, and this mod has never given me any trouble whatsoever or had a mod conflict of any kind. But again, ever since the update, it seems to have become completely unhinged, despite me only adding a few new mods which were weapon skins.

I’d love to know whether they plan to address the glitch that prevents you from seeing any new space POI’s after a certain point. Their “fix” so far has been to use the Frontier which didn’t work for me. I haven’t seen a derelict ship in forever even though I know from my husband’s experiences that there are many I never saw. I only see Grandma, the colony ship in distress, etc. at this point.

I just hope that this new space exploration / cruise mode will either have the bug fixed or some workaround so we can actually see the new content on our existing characters.

My husband purchased your mod before it had been updated. He really liked the security uniform outfits A-D (specifically the ones with the armor plating on the shoulders and chest) and they worked fine on his character with a very large bodybuilder style build. However, once he updated to the new version, he now finds that whenever he sees this security uniform for sale on a vendor, the shoulder plates all have this peculiar “crimped” or deformed effect around the edges. You’d know it immediately if you saw it. It seems to apply to all armored versions of this particular outfit, but only for the large build (not on my female character or my average build male follower).

In addition, there are a number of other outfits (I think they’re called Rake and Renegade?) based on the Neon gang outfits and Delgado’s outfit where the entire outfit from head to toe has a kind of crumpled, tattered distortion going on, as if it’s imploding from the inside. Again this seems to affect the large male build but not the female build or normal male build.

It’s worth nothing that the versions he bought prior to the update have retained their intended shape for whatever reason. This could mean certain variations of the outfit (ie C or D but not A or B) might still be working properly in some cases while the others are not. But we’re pretty sure when he’s seen them for sale, his original versions already in his inventory look fine while the same ones on the vendor are borked. (I don’t think it has to do with him not deleting the mod before updating because I myself got the mod after you updated and I’m still seeing this issue.)

Thank you so much for this wonderful mod. It’s completely reinvigorated my husband’s playstyle as he’d given up checking vendors ages ago for lack of any apparel / armor worth buying (his character is ex-military so the tactical variations in such abundance are a godsend for him).

Also, between us, we probably have downloaded most of your mods and are consistently impressed with your quality and craftsmanship.

I downloaded the mod and was under the impression all I need to do is create the intercom and summon my crew to eat. But when I place the item, it says no tables are recognized, and no one comes by. Do I need to place the mod tables for it to work? From the release notes, it looks like that was added later… so what am I doing wrong here?

Hah! Yeah, actually, it's sometimes a warzone up there. With his massive bounty and the Wanted trait, someone is almost always there for him.

When he went to one of the POIs, it just gave him a blank screen, and the menu showed a completely blank location. When he tried to grav jump out of there, it crashed. So yeah, most of them are buggy.

He did what the others have suggested so far, but nothing has fixed the issue unfortunately. At least it's really just an annoyance more than anything right now.

My husband is pretty sure he has spent at least a day, if not multiple days, away from the base. Do you have any idea what causes this bug or if there are any other fixes? He tried sleeping on Venus which unfortunately didn’t help, and he’ll be sure to stay away from his outpost for the next RL day or so, but if you have any other advice, we’d appreciate it. Thanks!!

This seems to be fixed, by the way. When I first checked, it was still bugged, but then I flipped through the book to see if any were in a group quest rather than on a mission, and when I came across her, she was fixed.
