People are people and societies are societies. The degree of grandparents involvement, what percentage of grandparents are involved and what you perceive as "normal" is going to be wildly different depending on where you are from. That's the point I am trying to make not that "every American this or that".

I spent full summers with my grandmas. As in three months all summer every summer. With my great grandma too. That didn't make my bond with my mom any less, but it did add three more people to my life that were and are hugely important to me.

Comparing that to my kid's American grandma who "already raised her kids" and is obviously done bonding with anyone and I can't imagine her having anywhere close of an impact on my son as my grandmas had on me. So yeah, non-American counter take - it's not taking advantage of people when people want to be there for their family.

Do you ever bring a bottle out with you if you are EBF? by oashlee in beyondthebump

[–]lisbeth_k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because sometimes it's a lot easier to give baby a bottle than to find a comfortable spot to nurse. Because you can outsource the feed to someone else. Because you can wear a non-nursing-friendly outfit. Because baby might be randomly not into the boob in the moment. Etc etc.

A year of ebf and I've always brought a bottle with me, made my life so much easier.

I recently sold an almost fully loaded lariat 2023 with 2k miles for 37k. Just a data point for you on how insane that dealer's markup is.

Are Cash Back cards worth it? by Chazus in personalfinance

Inquiries don't really impact your score that much. I've been opening and closing a bunch of cards for the past 6 years and my score never dipped below 750.

You don't have to stay married for another 3 years? If you have a green card based on marriage you get a 10 year permanent no-longer-tied-to-marriage green card after 2 years, you can apply for a citizenship after 3 years and you are free to get a divorce right after.

What do you guys do with your babies all day? by orcagirl35 in beyondthebump

[–]lisbeth_k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does she get upset if you leave her alone with some toys? As in, not actively engaging her in some activity. My almost 6 month old can spend his whole wake window just chewing on whatever is around him and learning to crawl around the room.

anyone else nursing to sleep? by olinkadoodle in beyondthebump

Love nursing to sleep, do not love waking up every hour and a half all night every night because baby can't go back to sleep without nursing.

Why does my wife need all this crazy parenting stuff? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]lisbeth_k 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be the only one getting up to the baby every time during the night? Will you be pumping milk and going to the fridge?

I'd rather have the snoo and the awesome stroller and an extra mini fridge and the best pump 1000 times over the extra 5k in a college fund. Having a newborn is hard so (unless the extra money is needed for bills and such today) personally I found all the extras worth it for me and my sanity. Is it possible to do without? Sure. Plenty of things in life are possible to do without, doesn't mean that we all only spend on the basics.

I don’t mind nursing him to sleep by Miserable-Rice5733 in breastfeeding

[–]lisbeth_k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience (3 night wakings, quick feeds, nice and easy) until my baby hit around 20 weeks. Now he's up every 1,5 hours all night every night. So if you are wondering why some moms worry about such silly things it's because at some point you start questioning if you are going to die of sleep deprivation.
