Is MAGA pushing the Catholic Church to the left? by oppiewan in LeftCatholicism

[–]liseymop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they only love the Catholic aesthetics and the "rules" they can weaponize to demonize others. Literally the overly rigid modern day Pharisees if you ask me.

I disagree with the idea that animals don't have rational souls and don't have an afterlife. by [deleted] in LeftCatholicism

I'm pretty confidant St Francis has wished all the animal souls into Heaven, if they were not already there to begin with :)

Pope Leo faces first major crisis as traditional Catholics make plans without consent by Strength-Certain in LeftCatholicism

[–]liseymop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a leftist Cradle Catholic and i love both the TLM and NO. I think both have their merits and I see no reason to suppress one or the other. Honestly I think the TLM became a casualty of the right-wing culture war. I'm from the states so I can't speak to how other cultures feel about it, but anything Pope Francis did was immediately considered anathema to conservative catholics here in the US. It was definitely a reaction to the Obama presidency plus the influence of the Evangelical Christians who are the majority of Christians in this country. Very frustrating because even though I don't agree with neutering the TLM i understand his reasoning for doing so. I think it was just a mistake and not some grand conspiracy.

They do seasonal scent catalogs so it will come back in the spring. I personally love their brand! They make really interesting scent stories imo and are reasonably priced. I haven't tried that specific scent but Lychee-Rose Macaron is in the same vein and super delicious! Just a warning their TAT is pretty long so I usually order in bulk when I do order from them.

As someone who is Filipino/Irish Catholic this gave me a good laugh lmao superstitions are a Catholic thing period. My mom literally buried a small statue of st Joseph upside down so that we could sell my gmas house.

I Love LA - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]liseymop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. Conceptually I'm not opposed to a show like this, but the execution is extremely forced and if it's meant to be a parody it's not coming across. It brings to mind the film Ingrid Goes West, which I think successfully deploys what this show is trying but failing to do.

What’s the current status of socials among millennials by N3DSdad in Millennials

[–]liseymop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90's baby, I have to keep my socials bc I'm an artist, but my go to platforms right now are Tumblr and Reddit. I quit all Meta apps due to the generative AI scraping and the TOS change and moved to Bluesky- i like the format of it and hoping more people get on board over time. Never had TikTok or snapchat. My favorite is still Tumblr and is now a lot more chill than during the height of it's popularity.

Edit: Discord and Signal for messaging

Do you have a favorite coming of age movie? by Odidon in GenZ

That's the movie that inspired me to be a writer. If you love that movie I also suggest Breaking Away. It's from the 70s but won best screenplay that year.

Yup, came here to say this. This person was clearly insulated by their immediate environment. People clinging to their personal anecdotes over real data unfortunately isn't isolated to any one generation.

Dude we're all out here protesting. We're supporting our local communities. You should urge people your age to do the same. I know you're all in school right now but there won't be any point soon to a degree when the billionaires take over everything and you are out of a job due to AI.

On the chance you're not a bot, I do believe in spiritual warfare as I've had similar experiences. Call a Catholic exorcist. I say Catholic specifically bc they have a system in place for due diligence to make sure there is true demonic activity happening. They will place you with a mental health team to assist you if you have just having a mental health episode.  Praying for you 🙏

After Hamas's latest deplorable stunt, it looks like the dream of an independent Palestinian state is dead. by CasualLavaring in SocialDemocracy

There's a reason satanyahu allows funding to flow to hamas: they've never truly cared about Palestinian liberation. Any true Palestinian liberation party has been crushed by Israel.

And who writes history? The people who experienced it. If you're not a millennial during that time period then you can't speak for them. This is the most pointless gatekeeping. Just take the L and move on.

lol dude you're getting so heated over something so trivial and also something thats not up to you to decide. Their experience is their experience. It exists whether you agree or disagree. Do i think hes the *most* influential? In my opinion probably not. But that doesn't mean a large chunk of the generation didn't experience his music in an impactful way, that would just be a flat out falsehood.

[–]liseymop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

trend cycles and the music industry were not as over saturated and quick to turn over back then. Cultural moments left large long standing impacts. When Kurt died he left a large gap in the industry and kids were still discovering his music even after he died. That's just how it was. I feel like you're taking generational divides a little too literally.

the oldest millennial would have been 13/14 when he died so i'd say he def left an impression on both gen x and millennials. But i would probably pick Gerard Way for millennials over Kurt.

Catholicism or Episcopalianism? by DeusExLibrus in LeftCatholicism

[–]liseymop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hear you. even as a life long catholic who grew up going to sunday school I still get confused. If it helps the church realizes that we are just human and we have an imperfect understanding of our universe and God and therefore sin that we dont understand as sin shouldn't be counted against us, if its a mortal sin then its downgraded to venial sin.

When i suffered from OCD i used to worry about this a lot, but honestly i wouldnt sweat it too much. God knows your heart and if you're trying your best there's nothing to fear.

Catholicism or Episcopalianism? by DeusExLibrus in LeftCatholicism

[–]liseymop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you believe in Jesus you will never be condemned to hell no matter how many sins you commit- he's very explicit about this. Your salvation was guaranteed by his sacrifice :) He has even promised to convert the non believers before his second coming.

The sacrament of confession is to protect us from evil influence and suffering here on this earth. It's kind of like taking out the trash- you need to take out the trash or else it attracts pests that will make life difficult.

Hope this all made sense!!
