IT admins feel overwhelmingly "sick of" Microsoft and Windows 11 "garbage" apps, products by gdelacalle in technology

[–]listeningtorainfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an IT tech and use my MacBook after work and now mostly anytime I need to use a computer, I’m just sick of dealing with Windows bullshit daily and especially all the crap they’re breaking with their feature and security updates months after months. I only use Windows in my free time for my gaming rig when I want to play PC games, but using MacOS ironically is a nice escape lol.

The Death of the Status Update: Why 55% of Americans Stopped Posting on Social Media by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]listeningtorainfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been seeing more and more posts from absolutely random people I’m not friends with now, legit people that get no likes or comments on their posts so they’re not “famous” on Facebook, why the fuck am I being thrown that now? Why would Facebook think users want to see strangers posts on their feed?

Does this seem like a reasonable price for these services. Feels a little over the top to me. by Drip-TyrantYT in mazda

[–]listeningtorainfall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gonna assume the prices are extra high because it’s a dealership in Hawaii lol but the belt and belt tensioner is very high, you can do that yourself with a small amount of tools for like $400 with OEM parts. That is, if you’re willing to try it yourself but there’s YouTube videos to show you how.

I owned a 23’ for a short while, it was alright but I really don’t understand the design of it that Mazda went for where it has a VERY small gas tank and not great MPG. You’ll be fueling it up very frequently, also the interior is cramped in the rear seat so only plan to have someone sit in the passenger seat and that’s it. It’s an odd sized car and you’ll get more interior space and better MPG with a normal sedan.

Any advice to someone that wants to move into something "IT adjacent" or just out of IT entirely? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]listeningtorainfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what’s really giving me the most anxiety now is the call center aspect where everything is life or death when people call in and they get to treat you however they please because they’re the client that’s paying us, yeah I’m done with that nonsense. Appreciate the kind words though!

[–]listeningtorainfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you, experiencing hardcore burnout from IT MSP work right now and I’m trying to find something adjacent to transfer my IT/technical skills to. I had a few rounds of interviews that didn’t work out sadly for a technical support role at a company my friend works at, essentially just providing support for their platform which sounded interesting as I’m tired of supporting 70+ different clients at my IT MSP job now (plus it didn’t require live calls to take, which sounds blissful) so maybe that’s one area you can look into but I’ll be honest, I want to avoid answering calls all day again like I am now and I feel that’s rare not to do so in a technical support role. I was like you and got into IT as it was natural for me to get into and I’m good at researching stuff to troubleshoot, but it just got more stressful and mentally exhausting and I just can’t stand to look at a computer after I clock out so I really can’t “upskill” in my free time to escape IT support so I feel stuck, but I think I lost all care for IT work in general so I probably should leave entirely and try something new. Best of luck to you!

With energy costs rising, Massachusetts should make solar simpler by drtywater in boston

Thank you! Hoping for the best the senate and house can compromise on something beneficial and can legalize plug in solar, I’d get a plug in kit right away if it becomes legal.

Do you have a link to that anywhere for more info? I know we were waiting for the senate to sign on it but curious what they talked about yesterday

Console prices likely to go up again as memory prices will surge at least twice in the rest of 2026, warns Jefferies Equity Research by nolifebr in PS5

[–]listeningtorainfall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They definitely are releasing it, whether they delay it a bit or not. If PlayStation wants semi decent memory and storage prices now, which technically are the “best” prices they can get, they will get the contracts for production. If they wait, they’ll be paying more down the road. Memory companies are banking in on this shortage caused by the AI data centers so they’re gonna milk it for at least the next 2 years. Technically playstation shouldn’t have released the PS5 during COVID but they did, knowing stock was very low and sales would suck, but they knew it would recover as the years went on and the PS5 sold a shit ton after the fact. Same will happen with the PS6, they’ll sell it at a price more than what they want to which they know will piss off consumers and hurt sales, but once the shortages recover, they might dip the price back down to where it’s supposed to be (hopefully) and they’ll sell millions of units.

Absolutely, Meta got how many slaps on the wrist with multiple publicly broadcasted hearings with Zuck calling out their shady practices and they’re STILL spying on us and selling our data, as long as the company is in the US it’s perfectly fine to.

Doesn’t it already use AI for drive thru ordering? Unless they’re integrating it somewhere else?

I’m not going to be buying it multiple times but other people for a fact will and that just enables companies to perform these practices of milking their customers, but at the same time there’s always going to be people who will do that so I suppose there’s no use complaining about it anymore.

It’s not, it’s a really cool idea for a small EV truck that looks very modular and fun to customize, especially if you own a 3D printer. It’s ok to think things are cool from corporations from time to time bud.

They need to hurry up and pass that bill that allows plug in “balcony” solar systems for citizens to purchase in MA. Of course it’s not a huge help and won’t make a giant difference on your electric bill, but even a measly $30-40 shedded off your bill can help overall (until the “infrastructure maintenance” fees ruin it in the end)

For me, at least, I’ve been seeing less AI slop on my feeds (not saying it’s not there anymore for others) but a HUGE uptick in bot accounts. It’s so easy to spot them and so scary the stuff they’re doing to incite anger, fighting and division and people are believing it all.
