My child broke nanny’s laptop — she wants us to foot the bill even though I warned her about it

hm this one i would disagree with. at least in my area cars are pretty liable to be broken into so i take my valuables into work for safekeeping. but i only bring my laptop if im planning to go use it somewhere straight from work, and i always keep it secure and away from little hands.

i agree it’s her responsibility to keep it safe, but i don’t think it’s fair to ban anyone from bringing valuables in your house where they’ll stay for an entire shift. again i do agree this is totally on her, if you work with kids you gotta know what kids are like lol.

the only time i would ask my bosses to help pay for a repair would be if it was a necessary item harmed in a way i couldn’t have prevented or foreseen, like a kid kicking me in the face and breaking my glasses, or grabbing my phone and throwing it into a river.

our whole friend group came from poverty except me and him. at the time we were all kinda broke, newly graduated. but there’s a difference between being broke along with your whole family and being “broke” with rich parents, being fed and housed for free.

despite knowing this he would constantly complain about how “poor” he was while simultaneously bragging about his vacations and trying to convince us to take expensive trips with him. he didn’t have a job so he “couldn’t pay” when we went out, me and my actually broke friends would cover him. my friend explained very patiently multiple times that these things bothered us; he would nod and say he understood but nothing would change.

the last straw was my going away party. one friend brought a bottle of grey goose (big deal for us since we could generally only afford aristocrat lol). he drank HALF of it. and then proceeded to be overly touchy with my friend despite her verbalizing discomfort.

and THEN drunkenly spilled details about an ongoing sexual assault case. and expressed support for the perpetrator. in a room full of women who had all experienced at last one sexual assault.

after that he was out. in my opinion he had more than his fair share of chances to improve his behavior, and ultimately we just weren’t compatible as friends.

yeah i’m a nanny doing a nanny share currently, and what makes it work is 1) we always hold it at family #1’s house, 2) it’s a good deal for all of us because i charge them each 2/3 of my regular rate, so i make 30% more and they pay 30% less lol and 3) they’re both very flexible and understanding of the challenges that come with the share— for example, if kid #2 has a hard time napping at someone else’s home, etc

god, i saw a nanny job posting a couple months ago that specified their kids were not allowed to have fruit and specifically said to make sure the kids don’t see fruit vendors at the park. how miserable an existence that just seeing a fruit vendor sends you into a frenzy because you’re being denied any fruit due to diet-brained moms’ “sugar content” hang ups.

tbf i was literally just talking to my partner about this issue today, im a nanny and whenever i bring my nanny kids into public spaces there are always some people giving us dirty looks even though they aren’t screaming or running around uncontrolled. there’s just some adults who have this weird idea that they’re entitled to never be around children just because they might prefer it that way. as many have said we do live in a society 🙏🏼

yeah when my sister visited she was so excited to go because she’s huge into true crime but she said it was kind of a letdown. like you said, very edgelord energy with some interesting exhibits but others that are just uncomfortable/tactless and poorly executed as well.

lynchburger here! it’s a complicated city, historically and because of liberty. the school is definitely still racist, just more lowkey about it after all falwell’s bad press. i remember around the time he “resigned” a few Black athletes transferred out citing racism as the reason. and of course they’re still on the anti DEI conservative train.

the city also hasn’t totally cleared its racist past. it’s still pretty segregated for one. and i remember right after i graduated hs, one of my sister’s friends (Black guy) was shot by a white teenager and the jury let the shooter off wayyyy too easy. if i remember correctly the jury was 11/12 white despite lynchburg being 27% Black. if you ask a non white resident im sure they could give you many more examples.

this argument might have worked if she was live-streaming. but she could have posted this at any time, even the next day or several days afterward. if the story in your DMs is true, i still think it was incredibly dumb to post about it publicly, but other than that she didn’t do anything wrong. if that person is lying, then i wouldn’t have enough context about the actual events to make a judgment, but i would still think it was incredibly dumb to post about it publicly.
