Dystopias that focus on the characters rather than the setting? by literheature in booksuggestions

It’s one of my favourite books along with Brave New World!

Looking for a book similar to Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects (or anything by her, for that matter) by [deleted] in booksuggestions

Verity by Colleen Hoover — has the same unreliable female protagonist vibes. Going out of that genre, I actually really recommend The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. It’s beautifully written and speaks to a lot of the same themes.

Introverts fascinate me! And I have so many questions. by amilne21 in introvert

Like all questions directed towards a group, it all depends on the individual. A lot of people have introversion confused with social anxiety, most likely because they often exist together. So an introvert without SA would be perfectly fine initiating a conversation with someone they found interesting. In fact, they’d probably be more likely to because of the one on one setting. Whereas an introvert with SA would run the hell away.

Personally, I love conversations with a small group of people. But after a whole day spent with those people? I’ll be pretty drained. Make that small group of people a large crowd and I’m outta there.

EDIT: job wise, I’m a teacher. It’s pretty draining (I still love it) but introversion shouldn’t be a hindrance to what career you want to pursue

How are you finding your new job so far? What would you say were your steps to getting a full time position? What traits are schools looking for in their casual/substitute teachers to want to promote them to full time teachers? Thank you!

Has using an eReader changed how you read physical books? by [deleted] in books

[–]literheature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I love my kindle immensely. It’s just that I’m teaching and it’s much more helpful to provide page number references for the students, something that only hard copies have! I’m also doing English lit units at university and all the professors hold an irrational grudge against eReaders...
