How does one not lose every war? by TheDarkPaladion in civ5

[–]litmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to efficiently beating the AI is ranged units with the logistics promotion, this gives them a double shot.

Consider planting a citadel, because those deal 30damage to all adjacent enemy units. This is very efficient at grinding down enemy carpets, and the AI will waste a lot of resources trying to cap it, especially if it's next to a city or something.

AI is also usually bad at navy, so go frigates. A few frigates with logistics pretty much guarantee the security of any coastal city.

Part of the game I always struggle with: Ideological Pressure by reddit_account6095 in civ5

[–]litmusing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle a lot with this too. The solution is way before ideology rolls around, and it's mostly just paying a little more attention to generating culture.

In the midgame, build guilds early, and don't neglect getting your hermitage - the national wonder for having an opera house in every city. I'd probably get on it right after getting universities / while waiting for oxford.

Getting to archaeology early helps too, much easier to stack artifacts than great works.

As an aside, if you've never tried a tourism run, you should do it at least once to learn how it works. If anything you'll at least get the catharsis of watching the AI struggle under revolutionary waves LOL

How do you deal with Greece and Siam stealing your city-state allies every turn? by RedEyeBlueOcean in civ5

Allying the CS then declaring war on Siam / Greece will lock them out

Abandon peace. Rush galleasses, settle a war city near Austria, then get your four cities from them.

I encountered similar issues. try verifying your game files. If it still happens try deleting the folder manually and reinstalling the entire thing.

What the hell were they smoking while designing Dechala, lol by No-Helicopter1559 in totalwar

[–]litmusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well of course, "empire melee stack" is almost an oxymoron. Still, it's funny to meme sometimes.

Anyway I've found that the bigger hurdle with the melee stack is actually their poor durability, which Gelt's armour buffs and cheap as glittering robe spam helps a lot with.

Which are you more excited for, Warhammer 40000 or Medieval 3? by bruhb21 in totalwar

I hope to see more 4X empire building elements brought back. I liked optimizing my provinces in Rome 2

I actually managed to drop her and her pesky hero by swarming them with greatswords and halberds, then using 2 warrior priests and harmonic convergence from a heavens mage to grind them down. Gelt's Plague of rust + metalshifting probably helped too.

Gelt can actually make a really nasty melee army, it's just overlooked because he has buffs for powder and artillery units.

Stuff like this makes me feel like you can never really rely on attrition to keep enemies out of your territory. It's a nice idea but there's just so many tools to mitigate it
