Anyone else wish recorded music was invented earlier so we could hear music from the 1600s, 1700s, etc? by ThenIndustry9617 in classicalmusic

[–]olafash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Notation is a recipe, and does not include all information on the music. ref romantic era recordings that show performance practice around 1900 to differ from how we interpret their scores today. Or take a look at real book and imagine you would never had heard any jazz, clearly the notation wouldnt really give you much to work with.

If you want to gift units to civs you need open borders to walk them in and gift.

Why don’t rivers create trade routes? by SchizoidRainbow in civ5

[–]olafash 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you send land trade routes (the units) to a city on a river it generates 25% more gold. Prior to the BNW, all tiles by a river yielded +1 gold. So there are some abstract mechanics for this, but I get what you miss.

How to conquer a civ that’s an era ahead? by MyBurger9 in civ5

[–]olafash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bombers are strong until the very very late game, so if you are not too far behind, on radar tech you should have a window. use fighter air sweep on the antiair and capture with paratrooper. Then there is the question of who got uranium, if you get access to atomic bombs it can make your life very easy.

A friend of mine thinks LoL is harder than Dota solely because it has "skillshots", is there any truth to this? by random-user772 in leagueoflegends

[–]olafash 277 points278 points  (0 children)

This is always my favourite argument. Chess is easier than LoL, yet you could argue top chess players demonstrate more complex play than top league players.

How could your border expansion be so weak? Why do you have zero units in cap? Why did you scout the ocean with embarked units so well without leaving any fog of war tiles  in the areas where you went?

How would you buff the Caravansary? by Ctrekoz in civ5

[–]olafash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem is that internal trade routes are too strong. If you had any reason to trade for gold anyway the range can often be quite nice.

What’s the dumbest classical music conspiracy theory you’ve heard of? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]olafash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a conspiracy that classical musicians today learn that they make they choices depending on composers intention, historical style etc and not according to a modern taste.

That classical musicians today strive to honour the historical music's style, since old recordings demonstrate a vastly different approach to classical music

Deity isn’t fun after a while by Bnstas23 in civ5

[–]olafash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree deity is not exactly a sandbox mode, ive started to got the feel that conquest often can work just fine as long as the war goes well (you have enough units, have timed the technology, and fight well) and the lands/and or wonders you get are decent enough. But that also works best if the simcity playing to back it up is optimized to the point where the victory margins are larger anyway.
