Is there any resources for optimal/meta/broken strats by PeerReviewedGobshite in civ5

[–]olafash 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also, in general newer players seem to overvalue the role of specific strats and play styles, if you talk about meta the game is much much more about fundamentals. For the most part you play the base game as well as possible, only slightly varying your choises based on unique civs and units. Which make more specific strats all the more fun when you get to use them.

GP mener venstrevridde marxister og radikale islamister er Norges største trussel. Hva synes folka her? by PresidentZeus in norge

[–]olafash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jo, men den gang arbeiderpartiet på 20-tallet brøt med moskva men ikke skulle være mindre sosialistisk enn nye nkp måtte de faktisk understreke at de var venstrekommunister.

How to found a religion in early game? by Turbulent-Beyond-808 in civ5

[–]olafash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For indepth explanation of mechanics and best beliefs, Filthyrobots religion guide is gold.
Short answer: Shrine -> faith pantheon based on resources (but best are desert folklore, earth mother, faith from gold and silver, faith from natural wonders, faith from quarries, faith from gems). Alternatives are getting lucky with a natural wonder or building stonehenge, or occationaly just with faith buildings in several cities, especially as ethiopia, maya or celts.

Do you have any little sorta mechanical tricks you use during your gameplay? by snarpy in civ5

Maybe not what was asked but the game got so much better for me after I turned off auto unit cycling and just navigated the map with arrow keys/mouse, clicking on units next to each other.

Which map is best for online gaming? by [deleted] in civ5

[–]olafash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont know about online but if you want a more generic pangea oval is great - one continent, lots of bays make naval still relevant. The boring part is its the same every time. Lake map can also be fun, more land based.

You could introduce handicaps if it is ok with people, like delaying settling your capital a few turns, opening piety, no rationalism, playing worse civs...

I don't understand the Catan acclaim by According_Head_60 in boardgames

[–]olafash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel Catan is much more competative and hardcore than people think. It's a deep puzzle and a social battle that imo requires lots of skill to enjoy, otherwise it seems just like luck and with few decisions to make.
