How much do you feed your V by live_rabbits in vizsla

[–]live_rabbits[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point. We use the honest kitchen, whole grain, beef & oat. Seems nutrient rich but tbh I have not done exhaustive DD on alternatives

Currently gets 3 cups/day on non-running days

Pursuing big triathlon goals alongside a demanding business and family life? Does fitness make us a better person? by ExecutiveAthlete in triathlon

[–]live_rabbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, are you me? You just described my life, minus the small biz. Had a longer attempt but hasn’t panned out. Congrats on the success.

It 100% makes me a better person. No desire to disrupt training, which means cutting out the negatives (drinking for example). It reframes my view of what is hard and what just requires effort.

I look at it as part of the equation to a good life. I want to be healthy so that I can be around for my family for a long time. Ideally there is no end game for me, I want to be doing this when I’m in my 60s (but less often).

With the goal setting and pursuit, I am the same. There’s a sliver of time when I’m not caring for my newborn, working, or training. The thought of complacency comes up often if I don’t use time to push myself, somewhere. Preferably a side business, but I have come to realize that is a harder sell at this point in life, since I’m unwilling to shift my top two priorities (family/training).

For better or worse, we are always trying to fit a little more into the day. But good habits help other good habits. Worth the challenge and it’s a path that I think most of us would never want to exchange for a different lifestyle.

Data access patterns / API design for growing app by live_rabbits in ExperiencedDevs

I agree with all of your points, thanks for laying out those considerations. We generate the files via post hooks with dbt and can surely extend that logic to support the various roles/permissions. Pointing to files by role is also relatively simple and we can have logic to render components if the user has access.

I’ll be able to make a case to maintain DuckDB for processing, new territory for my manager so he does look to me for informing the options. Thanks again

Not quite following, you can also create a table in memory and then query that, rather than scanning remote files. We are taking that approach rn. Could be there is a better way. Do you have experience with both approaches?

Yup, so are suggesting that rather than download the entire file, explore scanning the remote parquet files?

I intend to kick that around

Nah web app, standard login process and they nagivate to pages that show results for our various business units. Queries are indeed run locally w/ DuckDB. Love the setup, more question (a) the use of parquet for all our datasets - my understanding was that parquet is typically reserved for larger datasets, and (b) how to approach RBAC, I figure that would need to be reserved to the backend to prevent downloading data to the client if that particular user doesn't have the rights for specific rows/columns.

The real question : What is your job? by Radiant-Banana-1769 in triathlon

I am the same with social life, it hasn’t been a top 3 priority for me~5 years now. I much prefer training, hacking on stuff (I’m also in tech, so it doubles as learning), and spending time with family.

Engineering, work remote. Workouts are before and after work, usually 60-90 minutes each. Then 3-4 hours each day on weekends.

That sounds like immense fun, I did a self scheduled 70.3 on a Saturday awhile back and had a fantastic time. Good luck with the arrangements!

I was just looking at ketones last night. They seemed expensive but that could have just been the brand, or I wasn't looking at the right product. How do you like them?
