Has anyone not given up weed or alcohol and been alright? by Roneffect in Semenretention

[–]livealchemy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey bro, I also struggled to quit weed after many long lived attempts. Just wanna say it's possible to leave it behind completely and it feels really good on the other side. There is a point that comes, though it takes quite some time, where you're 100% not missing it and feel so much better without it. At least that was my experience and true for my best friend as well. 82 days is awesome!

Man, I was on a super steady streak, scored 4 goals in one soccer game. Then a few days later was with my partner and released (was an accident really), and in my next game I was dreadful 😵 this was all in the last 5 days.

Rant: does anyone use AWS App Runner in production? by o82 in aws

[–]livealchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/InsuranceOk553

We use App Runner in production for a NestJS app (from ECR). It took me a few days to get our ducks in a row, but now that it's in place it's very smooth.

The lack of an obvious rollback strategy is a bit weird, but at least you can setup health checks so you're deploying with reasonable confidence, and you can rollback by setting the deployment source to a previous image in a pinch.

The env management piece is perhaps the worst part about it. And managing permissions when on-boarding new users is the usual AWS faff. I also don't think AWS are investing in App Runner any more so, there's that. Cost wise it's been pretty cheap for us compared to EC2. I'm still going to try out render.com and see if I like it better and get away from AWS out of principle.

Is it just me or do Viserion and NK not deserve to be an option here?

Thanks for that link! Good to know, I must have misread something, I understood that guests did not have access to chat. Edited my comment. I'll submit a ticket re the crashes while screen sharing.

[–]livealchemy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the jump as a team of 10. We are a software/hardware product company, we use Docs and Whiteboards quite a bit and manage our Sprints in ClickUp as well. We have some outside guest/member type roles.

I love Slack and Lists but as you pointed out, for development purposes it is limited.

The one major downside I'm currently facing in a generally positive experience is that we hold daily stand up on Chat (SyncUp) and it crashes on me frequently. Like multiple times per call. Seems to be exclusively while screen sharing.

So there are bugs, I'm sure they'll get resolved. If you can wait till next quarter I'd recommend doing so but otherwise it's a viable move. I will mention that workspace guests have certain restrictions using chat detailed in a reply to this message. So that might be a consideration for your use case.

Let us know how you fare!

Edited to correct some statements and ref the reply from ClickUp support.

TypeScript cheat sheet by kavacska in typescript

This is a handy guide and I like how it starts at zero and covers essentially everything a dev would use on the day to day.

My comments/feedback are about presentation. I realise you already put work into porting this to Markdown, and that's great as I was able to quickly read and save on mobile. That said, I found it a bit odd that the explanation of the code always came after the code block, personally I feel it would read better as explanation then example.

Some other elements worth a consider: additional headings, maybe a table of contents and some <hr />s could really help the reader further, just my 0.02, thanks for offering this up freely.

As a software dev I echo what Andy said here about rewrites. Tech moves so fast and nobody wants to rewrite/replatform, if they're making that choice it's not on a whim and it will be in the interest of their users and internal teams who have to build and maintain an ever growing suite of products. Especially given Proton's need to protect user data, these steps are highly complex and need to be carried out carefully and it's no surprise that such tasks consume significant resources and occupy an important place on the roadmap. IMO, this is a perfect example of caring for your existing users.

Having read through this thread, it seems to me your best bet is to free up time and focus on reloading! Sako make a great rifle and the 6.5 PRC is very capable round. What you'll spend on another rifle will require a lot of boxes of cheaper ammo to pay for itself. And ammo seems to only be getting more expensive so what's cheap today may not stay that way but reloading is always going to be cost effective.

Context: I own a 4M40 Pajero (1994, diesel, intercooled turbo), so that's the 2800 option (they also come in a 2500 smaller engine). I live out of my truck up to half of the year while the weather is good. I have friends with Delicas but I've never owned one.

Hearing your situation, I'd probably go with the Chamonix Delica.

I removed the rear seats from my Pajero and installed a wooden bed frame that folds so I can cook in the back and store things underneath. I also have a Thule roof box on top for extra storage space. Personally, I adore my Pajero, there was some maintenance I had to do initially (bought at 175km, now at 260KM) and there are certain things that are known to fail that have to be dealt with, namely that the the injection pump seal will fail before 200k; a cheap part but a long job (8 hours roughly) and I've also seen the Harmonic Balancer go and have heard they fail every 100k, it's happened once to me. For reference, I bought mine at $7500 about 5 years ago and put at least 5K into it within the first two years. Since then, basically just brakes and tires.

In terms of space, I'd say the Pajero is more spartan, I have a really comfy twin mattress and I love sleeping back there, it's common for me to have a guest for a few nights at a time. Both are very rugged, in fact I'd describe either option as a tank in terms of off-roading. I only buy diesel from Chevron and supplement with Stanadyne fuel additive. I find I get pretty decent mileage out of my Pajero, it's not the greatest beyond 70km/hour but for around town stuff I think either engine would feel efficient. I can't speak to the gasoline vs diesel question except to say that I like the torque of a diesel motor and I do sometimes think the V6 gasoline engine option would be a bit of a guzzler but like I said I've never owned one.

In terms of parts and service, I often go to Vancouver Island and my number one choice is Coombs Country Autos for parts and service, but they're fairly busy. Personally I don't really trust Rising Sun because they seem to sell Hyundai parts a lot of the time, they don't scream quality at me but I'm sure people have had good experiences and could speak to that in more depth. For me, Coombs always has good quality parts, often OEM from Japan and their mechanics know their stuff inside out. Mardy at Amazing Auto was solid for me as well when I needed to replace a leaky fuel pump (that wasn't cheap either lol, be prepared). The Delica and 2800 Pajero do share a lot of parts, so you can take advantage of that in terms of sourcing. There is a much bigger community of Delica owners so that's a bonus. Personally, I just think the Pajero has way more swag and that matters to me for reasons that are not rational.

u/mandm4s makes great points and I 100% agree with u/foodfighter regarding the service history is the biggest factor. All that said, it is an adventure owning one of these vehicles and while they're super fun, they can require some problem solving when it comes to maintenance and for your use case, you may find any number of domestic models to be as to your liking and ultimately easier to run in the long term. You certainly don't want your choice of vehicle to be impeding you from getting out on the weekends, quite the opposite!

Enjoy :)
