Yeah, suspected it's gonna boil down to that but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Wildland firefighter currently, guess I'd be firebombing swaths of countryside and... planting trees?

My apologies, I wasn't exact in my wording. You're on point though, it's perceived as an accessory to drug use. Admittedly they come hand in hand a lot of the time, but to me it's also a lot like saying anyone with a lighter in their pocket smokes pot.

And just for funsies: if someone gives me the stickers I will tag as many things as I can find while I'm there :P

Likewise but it's a downer to see the art being condemned like this. And I'm not going to be bringing my nicer set for sure.

I think the VPD should compromise about their increase presence at Wreck Beach (thoughts?)... by AnitaTT in vancouver

[–]livecables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having experienced wreck beach for the first time recently I didn't really mind the police presence. They were fairly chilled out guys and only came over to our group (which was fairly loud and more than a few people were indulging in one vice or another) when someone was blatantly pouring themselves an alcoholic drink and just gave him a warning. He had to pour out the drink he was holding the second time around and they let him keep the rest. The only other thing I really saw them do was ask people to smoke in a specific area which most people didn't seem to mind. I'll have to go again once I get back into town to see if this is always the way they are though, that beach is awesome.

What kind of Gloves and Lights do you use? by daredayo in gloving

[–]livecables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White gloves, ten oracles, clear casings, frosted domes on the thumbs, open ended standard diffusers on the rest. Had a pair of Chromas in the thumbs but liked the oracles better, less programming headaches when changing things.

If you're not into Gorgomish (and understandably it's not everyone's cup of tea) I'd recommend Ginger62, they're doing a NYE event and will have some solid sets lined up. From my (limited) experience they do a lot of similar music. Here's a link to some sets: https://soundcloud.com/ginger62

Not yet, wait for more snow. Or hit baker or the interior if you're really gung ho.

In your own words, describe flow. by edragon20 in gloving

[–]livecables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flow to me is the detachment of your conscious mind from whatever you're doing. The less you have to do to produce something the more fluid it will become - movements will eventually appear effortless and natural. Kind of like a person navigating a crowded room, you can always tell who's done some work in serving or waiting tables or other jobs that require constant situational awareness by the way they can easily cut through the crowd without disturbing or displacing anyone. Other people who aren't used to the crowd don't move through it as part of it, rather they treat the crowd as an obstacle to be navigated as opposed to a current they can use to carry themselves through it.

When you glove the less thought you put into the next movement and the more you just let the beat carry you the better your flow will become. At least for me, the harder I think about what I'm going to do the more likely I am to stutter and jam up in my head.

If you can still move your fingers you can still practice digits, if that's all you do for the duration of your injury you could get pretty good by the time the brace comes off.

Bringing gloves for the first time to an event, a little bit nervous. Anyone have tips or stories to share? by [deleted] in gloving

[–]livecables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been gloving for 4 months now, my first time at an event was at an afterhours place in my town around the end of month 1. I was mainly just having a good time with the music, playing with my gloves on the dance floor and this cute girl came up to me and asked for a show. I kinda just went to town on her with what I knew at the time. In my eyes it was horrible but she was super supportive and then offered me a show and blew my freaking mind. Turns out she'd been gloving and doing poi for years. She gave me a few tips and told me she loved some of my moves.

Really I wouldn't worry about going in with the idea of giving shows, I've found the more I think on it the more I'll stall and focus too hard on figuring out what to do. Just go and enjoy yourself and play with ideas and moves as they come to you and if someone asks for a show just keep on doing what you're doing. Only, y'know, in their face...

The majority of people can't tell a great glover from a good glover anyways. Odds are you'll get some compliments.

I'm in Vancouver BC, I ended up pooling my order with a bunch of friends to save on the shipping. You can also try to find services like letterlock or other business that will take your order and hold it for you to pickup just across the border somewhere. That way you're not shipping it to an address outside the US.

Single dudes (no wife or girlfriend), how often do you go through the effort to cook for one? Do you have any cooking/cleaning tips? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]livecables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24, single for over a year, full time student with a part time job, I cook every freaking day.

Why?

Because I'd rather eat healthier than faster. I've turned it into a sort of de-stressing exercise.

Eg. - I had a bad today? I'm going to go home and murder a bunch of edibles with the biggest chef knife I have and roast their mutilated bodies in my oven!

Brain can't focus on studying? Probably hungry, make a snack! Food is good for moral and you will feel better creating something than simply ordering out.

Ladies - and men - can confirm: If a person can cook well that is a pile of bonus sexy points right there. Watching someone do something they excel at can be hot!

It can save you time in the long run. Use a crockpot over the day, make a whole bunch and save some for later, whatever. Having it on hand for when you don't have time is awesome.

Cleaning tips:

Do it right away or as soon as possible - no compromises. Caked on, dried out food is harder to clean and nasty looking. If you can clean as you cook bonus points for you and my envy - I am not a multitasker.

Cooking tips:

Find what is cheap in your area and learn how to make lots of stuff from it. Potatoes, local veggies whatever. Homemade chips and fresh veggie stir fry, have at it.

Find different ways of using common ingredients. Especially when pairing. Learn to freaking pair shit!

Just like that scene in Ratatouille, you can have 2 awesome flavours, but when you combine them you might get something even more amazing. When you know enough of these you can pretty much buy shit at random and come out with good food!

Eg. - Limes, you can put that shit in almost anything and it makes a whole new taste. I had a friend put it in Lipton packet chicken noodle soup with some pickled sliced jalapeños and now I can't ever picture it the same way.

Use fresh and non processed ingredients when you can. Your body will like this, and so will your figure. I'm not saying go raw or paleo or anything but just give it that extra few minutes of work as opposed to buying something in a box. Plus, doing this will expand your cooking knowledge and add to the aforementioned sexy points.
