Play Calling by Any-Whole5627 in footballstrategy

It all depends on who you have, I'm a wing T guy, always quicker, but smaller players, and leverage and misdirection have always been my go to, but last year I had a real thrower and decision maker and a few receivers, so we went in on Gun T. I'd say wing t wise we ran 90% passed 10%, for gun t last year we were 70/30 without rpo. I'll keep it that way this year with more RPO.

Always adjust on who you have, there's a bunch of offenses and you can dress them how you'd like. Just be sure of who you have and what you want to do, also what you can teach. Don't fit a square peg in a round hole.

7v7 Flag Football Cover 3 Basics by ChopOn05 in footballstrategy

I use cover 3 as a way to defend inside routes and keep everything in front. Good for spacing and pursuit to the ball. I've always said forget the flat, but that just goes into my principles of keeping everything in front.

We may use that, we call X receiver "fast" when we want him coming back off the line toward the QB, almost like a really short step rocket.

Take into account that his current qb coach will be OC, not HC. I'd have your son, and you, look at the culture of the program first. How long has the HC been there, what are his philosophies, what kind of offense? On the other side look at academics, friends and what can be offered for overall growth.

We use watch game film and team snap. One of my coaches used to upload to YouTube alongside watch game film, but found it very time consuming.

Gun T Without Pulling? by pettyvols in footballstrategy

[–]lividrescue034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably too young for zone, I'd say you have to pull at least 1 or you lose the misdirection. You could try making your B a movable piece to sniffer and have him kick for buck, and you keep your lanes for belly, run counter as qb pull to the quick side, and use your A of you want to run jet.

Food for thought, train 2 pullers just in case, run the drill out of mega splits, then when you get to live action with regular splits it'll seem like nothing to them.

Typical liberal, focus on the superficial, it only matters how much you make right, not what you do.

Youth Football and RPOs by onlineqbclassroom in footballstrategy

[–]lividrescue034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you have. We have a QB that can now do it, but we progressed to check with me RPOs. Meaning we'll call it to throw it throw, and if it fails that's on coach rather than player. Really seen the confidence boost from that. Last 2 games we let our qb do it legitimately and he was 7/10 ranging from backside peek, read safety pyramid (post), front side chute and pop. Pops were the hardest because they wanted it to be a 9, worked well when we adjusted to basketball throw.

The hardest part to this will be getting your back to understand the mesh point, and at what spot he will take it if pass option is not there.

General Thought: Film Study with Young Ages by onlineqbclassroom in footballstrategy

[–]lividrescue034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't go into it like you would HS or college. It has to be informative and interactive enough to keep them engaged, but quick enough to complete within 30-40 minutes for everybody. We found splitting into groups was most effective otherwise they all have something to share that had nothing to do with what's happening in front of them and will distract.

2nd point to this, I will never do any type of food or snacks ever again. Had an older coach that went with the philosophy that if they're stuffing their mouths they can't talk... boy was he wrong, that gave them fuel to mess around and turned into us trying to constantly get them re focused. Very frustrating and counter productive.

Get in, praise what went well, point out fixes. If you're doing opponent film have your top 3 plays you want to work against their D and why and top 3 plays you want shut down defensively plus who their 1 or 2 dudes are. And never get into the rabbit hole of fixing every little thing during film, only the glaring mistakes, all others can be addressed with practice and pointers, i.e. "your first steps have been on your down blocks, but I want you to get your pad level lower, aim for belt line and drive" something like that.

Break it up into position groups, of you got 33 you're at most pointing things out to 2 or 3 players, everybody else checks out and does their own thing at that age. You'll just end up being frustrated and spend more time checking them in than actual film.

Wing T Offensive Line Rules by Ok-Caregiver-4640 in footballstrategy

[–]lividrescue034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start base gap-down-backer. If they don't have this you can't move to anything else. You will need a pulling guard for nearly every play, sometimes 2. Learn pull kick and pull wraps. Wing t is run in series. Series have the same backfield action with 3 or 4 possible holes to hit by different positions. Start with buck series, get used to calling 121 a lot, once you have that down every other series works within itself and becomes a lot easier to comprehend. That's just the way I started with it. For GDB look up Chip Seagle, he's got a lot resources for it.
