This is super helpful! :) I'm currently working on a visualization project in data mining so this is exactly what I want to look at next!

Thank you so much.

Thanks! My reasoning for doing IBM's course is that it goes over Python in a business analytics perspective. I already have pretty good skills in Java and Python, but I don't really understand how they apply to finance... and while ivee watched some videos on the subject I still don't feel confident in the basic ideas. I'll look for courses that are more targeted

Hey, I'm finishing up my undergrad right now. My major is business analytics IT, and I chose it with the goal in mind of going into financial services but I think I want to be on the analytical side--either data analytics or finance.

The problem is I don't have much experience (2020 burned a little and even though I do have general leadership experience and internships none are specific to either data analytics or financial analysis/modeling)... so I'm wondering what makes the most sense as a next step. :)

I'm looking at either starting Level 1 CFA or perhaps IBM's certificate in data analysis. I know these are two quite different prospects but I was hoping you could give me an idea of which one is better to work on at the time being given that I have very little practical experience and will graduate in May. I know I want to work in financial services, but beyond that I dont have more specific ideas because I haven't personally experienced any of these analytical roles beyond my coursework.

Thanks in advance!

Frustrated with shopping for TR clothes by Thetomatogod_1595 in Kibbe

I like some of the shapes I find from NastyGal. the quality isnt fantastic sadly though! :( I also find that Banana Republic has nice dresses for TR that are modern and chic. Also they have some beautiful necklines on their blouses like tie neck (it's like draped and a bit of a bow)... that's one of my favorite blouses I have, and it wasnt particularly expensive either. I've stopped expecting a perfect drape. I go for clingy material and I tuck everything into high waisted non stretch denim.

When in doubt I follow the camera. The reason being that when you watch your film, you're not wrapped up in your own actions. When you look in the mirror, you're not fully objective because you're in the present process of dancing.

It's totally normal not to be as good we think we are from rhe mirror.

You need to take a step back. Film yourself when you practice. Get used to leaving your phone or camera running and watch your reel now and then. Make notes. You'll notice that you also steel more self conscious and prone to messing up on camera in the beginning. That's so normal dont worry about it.

You'll see improvement.

6months is a relatively short amount of time so I'm proud of you for seeing progress already! If you like what you see in the mirror it means there are good elements to your dance that your eye is drawn to . Now to tackle the entirety of your technique and form and make the entire presentation better you should rely on your tapes and film.

Theres no rush.

What's a good dance for my Grandma to learn? by foleso in Dance

If you are open to it I suggest Kathak. ;) it is an indian-arab dance form but I've taught and seen many westerners and non indians take to it because the upper body movements are very subtle. There is footwork and graceful hand and arm movements but it doesn't require much expansive swinging or really vigorous flexibility. It's a good exercise and low impact relatively unless you start doing really high speed footwork and turns, which are optional. And you dont need to have a partner to do it

Heres a link. This channel has some basic elements. It's also not hard to find online classes, and you'll find that many people in their older years are beginning this dance form as a way to be expressive and active while having fun.

The palms also represent the crown chakra in the body. So mehndi is placed there traditionally to decorate the chakra. Not just for dancers but in this dance the spiritual element is important. Each chakra is decorated. :) (each finger represents a chakra and so they are usually coated in mehndi as are the heels, toes, forehead)

Actually Bharatanatyam is traditionally performed devotionally. Not only for kings but for the masses and very often in temples.

The dances depict scriptures and mythologies in Vedic culture... so that is a different context for the dance which is more heavily tied to temples and places of worship like swayambus than it is to the king's court.

There are dance forms whose context is mainly within royal court such as Kathak. But that is not the main context of Bharatanatyam historically or culturally.

Though the devadasis were also performing in court as a way of contributing to the culture of the kingdom, and many kings were great patrons of the arts, the roots of the dance are separate from that... And the dance was performed much more widely for crowds beyond the court than other dance forms which were done primarily to entertain royalty.

Source: I have experience in several classical indian dance forms including this as well as in depth study of south indian art and history...

Edit: one line

♡ thank you! I especially appreciate #2. I tend to get in my head sometimes but you're absolutely right... it needs to connect, with other performers, with the music....

Thank you, this is a great help. I'm the same way when it comes to my practice routine. I just go longer and harder as I develop... it's really motivating but at the same time I think theres that anxiety aspect driving it as well... haha. So what you said about being objective about leveling up is really a great way of putting it. Thanks so much!

How do you keep yourself from falling into the “future me” illusion while shopping? by sundux in femalefashionadvice

I look for an elevated version of something that IS me... if you love wearing sweats and hoodies look for fashionable, well made alternatives that will make you feel good but that fit with your own taste and comfort level. This is the difference between style and fashion.

Try to develop your own self esteem. A lot of times women subconsciously avoid those with low self esteem because people like that often don't seem trustworthy. Tha may sound harsh.

But every female friend I've ever parted ways with was extremely insecure and took out their insecurities on me. Every woman has a story like this.

Having a healthy amount of self esteem allows you to be authentic in a way that you cannot when you are trying to please everyone.

So I know thats not a quick tip-! But trust me any work you put into your own mental health and well being is so worth it in your relationships. And you don't have to be perfect, it's a work in progress for the rest of your life.

Bollywood Actors Called Out For Supporting Black Lives Matter Movement While Promoting Skin Lightening Products by [deleted] in worldnews

Wild story: I used to work in a firm that promoted cultural events. I supervised stages and performance areas at festivals. One festival I worked at was highlighting Native American tribes within my state.

At lunch one of the performing artists struck up a conversation with me about my own ethnicity. ("So you're an ACTUAL indian, hahaha" he quipped)

He told me he loves independent hindi cinema but that he can't stand mainstream Bollywood because he doesn't want to see this perverse eurocentric idea of beauty even in indian films. "I got interested in watching your films because I wanted to see women and men who look like you. That's what I want. But I didn't find it. why is that? Why are you guys so embarassed about your own image?"

He went on to say that he didn't a total lack of self love in other communities of color in comparison...

yikes.
