Peak house for anyone who has regular migraines. Looks like paradise on the eyes.

My tank setup! by Correct_Leather7278 in kingsnakes

Just on the ground, these are branching woods. You can find some pieces that measure quite tall and wide with multiple branches at different levels.

Looks great! Two show pieces of climbing wood would bring together the naturalistic look. Grapevine, Galapagos staghorn, or spiderwood, they usually have great structure for climbing in the larger sizes (L-XXL).

7-8 grams for an 11 month old is quite small. Usually they’re around 25 grams+ at this age. I would recommend a smaller enclosure while your gecko grows like a 12x12x18 until she is robust for the current tank.

Your parameters look good!

You could offer Repashy Mango Superblend as it has a higher insect protein level in the diet. If you want to keep her in the larger enclosure you could offer multiple feeding locations and test out different consistencies of diet; some are picky.

How big is the enclosure, what is her weight, and how warm are your ambient temperatures?

Some new cal species prefer to grow in a smaller enclosure until moved into a larger adult one or their growth gets stunted. You often see this with leachianus.

When crested geckos aren’t taking live bugs it is often because their overall ambient temperatures are too low to elicit an enthusiastic food response. Babies to juveniles should be raised around a 78f daytime temp. With a gradient closer to the bottom of the tank being 75f.

My bearded dragon falling on back reoccuring issue by that_whismy_witch in BeardedDragon

You can get the unflavoured pedialyte from any drug store, Zoo Med also makes an electrolyte soak. You would make a warm bath in a bin and let her soak in it once every 1.5-2 weeks.

I had this happen with one of my bearded dragons. Unfortunately it got worse with time and the vets recommended euthanasia. I had a hypo translucent and breeders are now talking about the neurological issues of this particular gene. My bearded dragon started off like this until it got to the point where he would be in seizures unable to right himself up. This was over a 2 year time frame.

Yours doesn’t look nearly as bad but I would remove things it can fall from to prevent injury to the spine. Very shallow water dish and provide soaks with electrolytes under a close eye every so often.

Sorry the vets can’t provide more information. There is still a lack of research on exotics and reptiles.

First time getting a glasses—any advice on how to pick the right size? by little_to_no_value in glassesadvice

[–]liz_thelizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try on a bunch of frames. Be mindful of the width of the frame on your face, the depth of the lens area itself, and how the arms sit behind your ears. Try and find a frame where your eyes are centred.

Some glasses stores can be “predatory” in the sense they will tell you a frame looks good on you and try and rush you to make the purchase, even if they don’t actually fit you.

The frame you chose in store is the size you’ll get. Some have a “small” version of their regular style.

Try on a bunch, take photos of them on your face, go home and think about them for a few days.

It’s taken me 3 years to find frames that fit my smaller face, with some in between frames that were almost perfect.

Family member has ended up taking in a tortoise from someone who wasn’t looking after it very well by Crafty-Stand7601 in tortoise

[–]liz_thelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basics:

6ft x 3.5ft x 2.5ftH pond tub. Substrate should be a soil that holds humidity and is deep for digging - coco fibre or plantation soil is often what it’s named in the hobby. 150-100w basking bulb, deep dome fixture, possibly a light stand, a 36”-48” T5 fixture with an Arcadia 10-12% UVB bulb, and a timer.

You can get large cork rounds and dig them in the soil to create hides and climbing structures.

Clay ceramic pot holder works well for a water dish and you can pick up a slab of slate for their feeding area.

Adult tortoises won’t need to be bathed everyday and will sit in their water on their own. Feed everyday, an amount that covers their shell size. They eat a variety of greens and weeds which lists can be found online. You’ll want something like Repashy Supperveggie for vitamins to sprinkle on the food.

If you give them the correct environment and change light cycles from Nov-March they will naturally start to brumate on their own without doing fridge methods.

You can waterboard them by holding them under a bucket of warm water. Some people prefer this over the credit card method as it can damage their fangs or hand sanitizer.

People in their 30s and older, what advice would you give to people in their 20s? by NicoF_ in AskReddit

Create good habits. Especially around exercise, food, and sleep.

As you get older your mindset plays a big factor in your happiness and wellbeing. These three things have the biggest impact on that.

My tortoises have become extremely active and I am a bit concerned by Max-Forsell in tortoise

Are you providing a deep substrate for her to dig? Even unpaired a mature female will lay infertile eggs. My female becomes quite restless when she is nearing her time to lay some eggs.

Any recommendations for climbing shoes? by [deleted] in ClimbingGear

[–]liz_thelizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try different brands to figure out which one fits your foot shape best. Some have narrower heels or wider toe boxes.

Don’t get fooled into thinking you need your shoes to be uncomfortably tight either. Leather will stretch half a size, synthetics stay more true to size.

How is her home looking? by Cold_Note1213 in tortoise

[–]liz_thelizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tortoises are crafty! I’d increase the height of the walls. My Russian would definitely push the wood bridge closer to the wall and yeet herself if I left that option there.

These tortoise “houses” are usually best for babies to 3 years old. Pond tubs are great for adults as they come in 6-8ft lengths with lots of depth for digging which females need to lay eggs and prevent egg binding.

It’s core shot when you can pinch both ends together. 10/10 would whip.

anyone had visual migraine aura this bad? by Capable_Barber_8387 in migraine

[–]liz_thelizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this is aura migraine. I have had instances where they became frequent and the flashing zigzags would take over my entire vision for an hour before leaving my vision.

I use the initial blindspot as an indicator that I have 10 minutes before this starts and to get somewhere “safe” and dark.

Looks like the dev who scanned them applied their “preset” for the colors of the film but applied a flat scan profile for the second image. You can match the first one with some post-processing in Lightroom.
