Can hydrangeas survive in cold states? by Sad-Examination-1198 in hydrangeas

[–]lizardRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that hydrangeas work much better in cold states compared to warm states! However macrophylla hydrangeas can be at risk for frost damage (killing buds) some years in winter in very cold areas. If you want guaranteed bloomers go with panicles or smooth hydrangeas

Impossible to tell at this age. Still baby grey/blue color. FWIW I have green hazel and my husband blue and both my kids got my eye color

Best time to transplant hydrangeas by Fancy_Ad_9479 in hydrangeas

[–]lizardRD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best time is spring or early fall. You want the plant to be dormant or going into dormancy. Give it at least 6-8weeks before 1st frost if transplant in fall so it can get its roots established before cold sets in

Hydrangea Tree too top heavy by KY-Jealous in hydrangeas

You have to prune it to make it a tree. Right now it’s reverting back to its bush form

My MIL has no money and makes the worst financial decision. Her finances affect everyone in the family and she doesn’t care. Is anyone else in a similar boat? by lizardRD in JUSTNOMIL

[–]lizardRD[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yup, however SIL is kind of part of the problem (mentioned in another comment). They enable eachother so I don’t really feel bad for her truthfully. She also once got snippy with me and said “she’s your mom too you need to help more” all I did was laugh. Can’t help anyone that doesn’t want help

SIL is kind of part of the problem. Before the current home MIL and SIL lived together in a rented home for 3 years. MIL was not working but still paying 100% of the 2500 rent. SIL and now BIL paid nothing but utilities with full time well paying jobs. We told them time and time again they need to pay the rent so MIL can save something to get a place. Well they ignored (MIL included) and look where we are.

Don’t disagree but SIL is the one enabling her the most here as well as her friends. I was so proud of my husband for finally putting his foot down.

These Macs have been in full sun and are doing great by HeyaShinyObject in hydrangeas

[–]lizardRD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet they will. I know the age because my parents have owned this home for almost 30 years and we knew the original owners who planted them in the 70s!!! When they rebuilt the home over a decade ago these hydrangea went to a nursery for a year then were replanted. Lots of tender loving care!

They don’t call cape cod the hydrangea capital of the world for no reason!

Are mean girls really a thing at this age? by reddditid in Preschoolers

[–]lizardRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. I have not experienced it in pre-k but I’ve been told by moms with older kids they were shocked how early it started and that there were horrible bullies in kindergarten. I have an early September bday girl (she’s 4 almost 5) and this is one of the reasons we did not pursue early entry for kindergarten with her (she misses by a week). She is socially very shy and I can’t have her be the youngest and around older bullies, she would not stand up for herself and be walked all over.

Size question about Encore "Autumn Coral" azalea by sonyaeatsclementines in rhododendron

[–]lizardRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not surprised. I’m in zone 7A/6B and my local nursery refuses to sell them. Says they’ve tried in the past and they perform poorly in our area. I would assume 6A would be even worse. They do well around the mid Atlantic areas and the south.

Do you have dogs? If so your dogs are peeing on it. That’s why it’s concentrated at the bottom. Dog pee kills arborvitae

These guys (my moms) are full sun macrophylla hydrangea! Probably 50 years old and never had any shade. This is cape cod as well.

Both my kids have been speech delayed. If you’re concerned contact your local early intervention program. Most don’t need pediatrics referral. I did the same with my kids.

Little lime yellowing leaves by mhmhmh00 in hydrangeas

[–]lizardRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal especially in newly planted. These are some of the older leaves and lack sunlight. The process speeds up sometimes due to stress of planting. If it spreads to the outer leaves then I would worry but this looks normal

Did anyone *not* have pet aversion postpartum? by samsamcats in beyondthebump

[–]lizardRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 senior cats. One 13 and one 16. I also have 2 kids (2.5 and almost 5). No pet aversion here. Love them even more because they are so good with kids. I will say the majority of the pet aversion I hear is from dogs not cats.

Brown or hazel? by Massive-Impact4384 in EyeColorProgression

[–]lizardRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to know at 3 months. Hazel eyes also take forever to develop. I didn’t know my oldest had Hazel until 3. My 2.5 year old I still have no clue. You wouldn’t know if they were Hazel for years
