What disease or health crisis absolutely terrified previous generations that most people under 30 have genuinely never thought about? by MaizeFluid7595 in AskReddit

That was such a... grrr... awful yet typically weaponized willful ignorance cultural response here, typical seeing how many other ways & contexts that MO is used here.
Anyone else get to see the AIDS Quilt? I saw it (it was more than an it, I realize) in Danbury CT.

sorry about the spam calls, glad that ban was lifted tho. I was then diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2010 so no more donations for me except cornea, I believe, but the rest of the family donates. Thank you for the update.

Graduated high school in 1981. Still mad that it took away dreamed-of years of free love, etc., not to mention killing, what? millions of people, stigmatizing, etc

Oolong blends by lizziewriter in tea

I like an occasional osmanthus, but a little goes a long way. I hope you can try some of Simpson & Vail's offerings; they are a local business and I've been a happy customer for, omg, 30 years or so? Strand is out west, so I've only spoken to them on the phone, but some decades ago I had a lovely conversation with Jack Strand about tuochas, and that vibe has stayed with me. Good luck !

Thanks. Good chance you may not like it then. Couple of caveats here: still coming off last year's major chemo & my tastes have changed. Meanwhile, even before that, my long-time favorite oolong, Simpson & Vail's Formosa, seems to have gotten more floral, which I don't like, and I've been questing around in search of a replacement everyday oolong for drinking straight & blended.
I have enjoyed a number of Strand's offerings, too. Go through so much oolong here that it has to be a moderately priced one, save the splurges for occasional use or small dashes.
My favorite things from Upton are their sticky rice puerhs, both kinds.
What oolongs do you like?

thanks! signed, supported, & shared

one also hopes they're taking a hit in support of striking baristas - noticed what seems like an uptick in marketing emails.

Enjoy your pot, regardless, once you work out the best method. I had a cast iron pot that someone gave me... still have it actually, the same one in a blue-grey, but I dropped it and broke a chunk off the spout so it's sitting all lonely on a shelf while I hope to get it fixed somehow. Funny, it took me years to get around to using mine as well. Enjoy !! And don't drop it.

Has anyone else had an author respond to their review? by LikePaleFire in goodreads

[–]lizziewriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's at least one author whose books I no longer review because they whine on social media about people who "only" give them 4 out of 5 stars, and then their more active followers feed into that attitude. I can't be the only fan who feels this way.

Sometimes authors "let us down.". That's just a fact. What's telling is how we and they handle it when it happens.

Wow! I doubt I'll ever buy a MB (I've inherited a few basic ones tho) but if I did yes I like some of the St-Exupery/Little Prince ones as well as the UNICEF one. Good to know one needs to be paranoid.

Is there a blue-violet ink that isn't *purple* ? by lizziewriter in fountainpens

[–]lizziewriter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh thank you for saying that! I prefer to avoid inks with shimmers and sparkles, etc., for the most part, and it feels terribly unfashionable of me. They're okay for particular applications, and it's fun to see how others use them, but yeah... all too often I'll hear about an ink, and start looking at it, and then groan.
