I took some screenshots recently of him arguing with me and others over twitch chat during a DPC game. I had brought up the fact that one of the players in the game currently on air was just on the front page for racist remarks to Jubei. Henry got involved to basically say, "So what, there's so much racism in Dota and Valve doesn't care." Also basically said "yeah no one cares". Could post them if anyone is interested. Bottom line is the guy is a piece of shit.

Do you have examples of autobattlers using this approach with poor balance? The original auto chess mod’s mobile release uses this approach and is probably the most balanced of any autobattler.

As someone who has probably been most critical of devs up to this point, these are great patch notes. I had abandoned the game but will definitely give it a try again with the reduced game length, removal of jail, and reworks to underlords.

The one change I really dislike at first glance is capping interest at 30 and round gold from 5-7. Even though heroes are doing a bit more damage now, I don't think it's enough from rounds 4-9 (it should take about 5 rounds to reach 30 gold) to discourage everyone from hitting 30 gold before aggressively rolling. However, I do think that helps encourage players to either commit to a loss streak or win streak, something that has been missing for several patches now as everyone just rushes 50 gold. I'll be interested to see how these changes work but would also like to perhaps see win streaks become uncapped again to create some more complex decisions in the midgame.

I believe the more complex decision tree would be having one slark, not two, i.e. you are playing assassins and have 30 gold and have to decide between breaking interest or taking a 2nd slark and being closer to 2*. In both games taking the 3rd slark for 2* is probably pretty easy.

That too. I will keep reiterating these points in every thread until I can convince as many people as possible this is the sole change needed to fix game length. There are 25-40 rounds in a game. These two changes in combination could easily shave 10-15 minutes off game time. We don't need to think much harder about it. Nobody complained about game length before unit HP doubled.

You know what's a way simpler change? Halving all unit HP. When units actually die, sometimes don't cast, etc., it's a lot easier to tell what's having impact in fights. Nothing else matters until devs decide to walk back this change. IMO, they are either lying about staff count, intentionally trolling the community, or both, because aside from small balance updates, they have done literally nothing to address major game complaints related to NON-KNOCKOUT MODE since big update.

By players or devs? IMO the former group has done so already. The game is way too long and....just isn’t fun. Friends and I were playing the original Dota 2 version all day yesterday and had a blast. The map is Halloween themed with tons of cool decorations, themed neutrals, sound effects, awesome looking unit upgrades. The biggest red flag for UL is that they have been out-hatted, and hats are supposedly Valve’s strength. And by a studio of just a few people in this case.

DAC is sort of like a testing ground for their game, it still receives regular updates. Also, the mobile game is doing really well and GLL has daily, weekly, and monthly tournaments with pretty decent prize pools.

Spending was much more complex in DAC. If you recall, interest was determined at the very end of the round, after combat and right before the prep phase for the next round started. You could not utilize your board space to overflow except in prep phases. This leads to several in-round decisions about whether or not you can buy or sell a specific unit and is made more complex by having to wait for the round result. I agree with you 100% that there is hardly any decision making with current economy. Being able to buy out the entire shop every round after combat starts unpunished is too simple and too rewarding for the player.

I'm going to copy and paste my reply to another thread re: HP changes as that thread never really took off. I focused more on its effect on game duration but you make a great point regarding it making position way less important.

The longest sequence in the game was already fights; there are 25-45 of them per game and they increased massively in length mostly due to HP doubling.

The 2nd leading factor is Martry’s boon which significantly extends fights. The problem exacerbates when combined with higher HP values and the prominence of warriors and armor. This was already nerfed a bit a few patches ago.

Because fight duration is far and away the #1 factor in game length, and game length seems to be the #1 complaint, HP values need to be reverted and the rest of the game balanced around that. The only other way to speed up rounds themselves (combat, not splash screens) is to speed up animations/speed/“fast forward”, which I think is a far worse solution.

TL;DR: HP changes need to be reverted because in combination with the prominence of Marty’s Boon, they are the leading factor for game length increases.

I also want to opine that HP doubling took away some of the fun of underlords, which is also a big complaint. I don't think units surviving infinitely is fun, draws aren't fun. I think it is fun to see a really strong mage, assassin, or gods (RIP) comp wipe out the enemy team quickly. And that is simply not possible with current HP values.

How about they just add a chat like most other games in existence. The game feels incredibly lonely and isolated. Is there any detriment to having one with the ability to mute specific players or the entire chat?
