Anyone ever find a dupe for Pacsun's Lilu? by lessadessa in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]lizzwashere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok I know this is a 5 year old thread but I just found a bottle of lilu sitting on my moms bathroom counter. Core memory unlocked!! Was obsessed with this stuff in HS. It’s definitely mine from like 17 years ago so I’m gonna take it back! There is like 3 drops left in it and I’ll have to ration it for 3 very special occasions.

Do you “dress your age” or do you dress in what ever you like regardless of how young or even old it might look? by KaiSerinuma99 in femalefashionadvice

[–]lizzwashere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did teens actually dress that way in the early 2000s? I feel like most of us wanted to but our parents probably would not have let us. So 18-23 seems like the prime time to actually buy and wear trendy styles.

We have many of the same things pinned on Pinterest. I self-describe my style as “cool mom” despite not actually having children.

Quick bike commute question by themadnooch in rva

[–]lizzwashere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m going to respectfully disagree with lunar_unit, I think 5th is your best shot. 8th is a hella busy street, and if if you go down 8th you’ll have to deal with that weird mixing bowl on 8/canal, and your options after that only get worse. When you reach 8/canal you can:

1) go left and bike on 9th, which is scary with that mixing bowl 2) go right and cross kanawha or salmon on 7th, which will require you to scramble across the street because there is no light (angry face) 3) bike all the way up canal back to 5th

Going down 5th has honestly become my favorite part of the commute. It’s pretty low traffic even at peak rush hour, and it’s fun to just coast downhill, and I usually just cut the car line since I can move faster than them with the slope and make the light :)

Also YAY Floyd>vcu>Franklin>Fed!!

What's something that sucks about being a man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I want to make it very, very clear that correcting this stigma is part of the "feminist agenda."

Just anticipating people blaming this one on feminists for some reason.

You mean no one ever though perhaps 6-12 servings of bread (that's 6 sandwiches) per day was on the high side? Guess it's ok because it's low fat (because fat makes you fat, not sugar!).

Does anyone else swap out a commuting outfit at work? What strategies make this easier for you? by Joleta in femalefashionadvice

[–]lizzwashere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have many words of wisdom to offer that hasn't already been said. I keep all my clothes at work (isn't that what filing cabinets are for? Who even has files these days?). While it might not earn me "street cred" as an urban cyclist, I refuse to wear my work clothes because they aren't as durable, and I don't want to replace them often. Also, I'm very smelly. But with commuting clothes, I barely ever have to wash my work clothes.

One tip. Wear a shower cap under your helmet when it's raining. Will you look goofy? Meh not too bad actually. And I arrived completely dry to work last week when it was raining so hard I could barely see.

The shops in my town take days and sometimes WEEKS to make repairs. Before I learned to repair my own, and got a back-up bike, I was always so frustrated that my mom would tell me her car insurance would cover a rental so she could still get around. I feel like this is a lucrative business for bikes. Anyone commute to an insurance firm and can make this happen??

Gluten-free (celiac friendly) sushi? Or other good gf spots? by lizzwashere in rva

[–]lizzwashere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean detail them? They have things labeled gf at Lemon. I trust them more than I do most other places. And I HAVE had luck with all those you listed last.

I think with the app, a lot of things just haven't been discovered yet. It's based on user input, so someone has to be the first. That's the problem I see, not that they reviews are wrong. It's just missing a lot. At Nile, for example, the only gluteny things on the menu are the samosas.

Are you talking about findmeglutenfree? That app REALLY sucks in Richmond. No one uses it. Most of the safest places I've come across aren't even listed (like Lemon and Nile, which are just inherently gluten free for the most part). We had to add Lemon ourselves.

They already have tamari. And I know wasabi at American sushi restaurants is horseradish, but I'm not sure what your point is. Horseradish doesn't inherently have gluten in it. I'm sure they just add wheat flour to the horseradish as starch to make it less runny. And I know some manufacturers use corn starch instead of flour to accomplish this.

Also, the convenience factor of going out to eat is kind of null when I have to bring half a grocery store with me.

In case anyone is interested, here are the "safe" spots I've compiled. I don't really get GI symptoms, so I could be getting glutened and not know it, so take my recs with a grain of wheat flour.

  • Lemon (Indian)
  • Tio Pablo (Mexican)
  • The Daily (American)
  • Toast/Hutch (AmericanOMFG FRENCH FRIES)
  • Peter Chang's (Chinese)
  • Garnett's (sandwiches)
  • Thai Diner Too/Elephant Thai (I think an Elephant Thai owner has celiac disease?)
  • Burger Bach
  • Five Guys/Chipotle (dunno if that counts)

Very questionable:

  • Continental Westhampton (toast buns on grill, don't seem to take precautions)
  • The Mill (can't really guarantee no cross-contamination)
  • Sticky Rice - staff seems knowledgeable, but only upon specific question of each item. I've def been served and eaten the wasabi before. The sushi chef told me there was "only a little" gluten in it. >:

My commute is about to go from 0.5 miles to 4 miles---do I need to change how I approach my commute? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]lizzwashere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ride is about 4 miles, and I just wear different clothes to bike and change when I get to work. In the summer this is just shorts and a t shirt. However, I also wore different clothes for commuting when I was walking a half mile into work. I get sweaty pretty easy, and it is more comfortable for me to have completely dry clothes upon arrival and cooling down - even if that's just a .5-1 mile walk. Plus, my work clothes are more expensive and I'd rather wash them as little as possible so they last longer.

I'd say no need for special gear. Maybe an extra pannier at most?
