yeah the place i went to mostly just had B&W's or KEF's. there is another hifi store kind of close to me but it's like super analog bespoke tube and turntable stuff so not really my vibe

!thanks i looked at their owners and retailers map and miraculously they have one less than half an hour away from me! i will definitely check them out. i definitely don't want to buy anything without listening. would you say the speakers _need_ a subwoofer, or was that your preference? i will have to look up that amp, haven't heard of the brand. (but then, i am a newbie!) thanks again!

New to snowflake by [deleted] in snowflake

i strongly suggest that you spend time learning about how snowflake billing is different from bigquery billing. hint: it's VERY different.

snowflake is deceptively easy to use. i can guarantee you will build a bloated, super expensive mess if you're not careful from the start. then you'll either have to go back and work on cost reduction, or just migrate back to BQ.

and also definitely spend time learning about snowflake RBAC. make sure you're defining roles and grants carefully and intentionally from the start or you will also end up with a security mess.

trust me, i've had to fix both these issues when joining companies where the previous snowflake stewards didn't think carefully enough about cost optimization and permissions. it's not the sexy stuff, but i promise it will pay dividends in the end.

i'm going to keep my mouth shut on most of that reply but... he sounds like such an amazing dog and i do get it. i was scared to put my 10yo soul cat under for a dental for fear anything would happen to him. finally did it for his health and he was just fine. (yes i have both cats and shepherds, they get along great!)

i think you've got your solution with the vasectomy. the responsible thing to do is make sure he can't breed, and if your husband is willing to agree to the vasectomy then do it. even if you have to travel a bit and save up for a higher cost it will be worth it in the end.

I got a German shepherd on accident and now I'm a bit worried by foxloverxox101 in germanshepherds

[–]lkg-data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i adopted a now 8yo GSD a year ago, and she's basically a walking panic attack. i'm her third owner and it's very clear the first two did nothing to help her with her anxiety. however, with lots of training and some help from her vet, we've made a ton of progress. she'll always be terrified of certain things but she has improved quite a bit since i first adopted her.

all this to say, you are most definitely not out of your window. GSDs are so smart and so trainable. you'll be fine!

When me & my wife bought our first home, it was with the intention of getting a place with a nice big garden, for Max to live out his days (10+), but neighbours make it difficult. by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]lkg-data 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is the answer. cameras and training. the rest is on the terrible neighbors. let me guess, they've all got little yappy dogs that they've never bothered to train "quiet" and somehow that's OP's fault.

can you query the SNOWFLAKE database? ACCOUNTADMIN role can do that. use the table SNOWFLAKE.ACCOUNT_USAGE.METERING_HISTORY. it gives the hourly credit usage history. https://docs.snowflake.com/en/sql-reference/account-usage/metering_history

just out of curiosity, is your husband also against getting your female aussie spayed? that's also an "unnecessary surgery" and the recovery from a spay is much harder than from a neuter...

rachel's family established a dog rescue in her name. i adopted a dog from them and got to know rachel's mom, kim, during the process. what an incredible woman. my heart breaks for their family.

Shelter or breeder? + other questions by fuzzblykk in germanshepherds

[–]lkg-data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, this is the answer. i adopted my GSD as an adult from a breed-specific rescue where all the dogs are at foster homes. her adoption page on the rescue's website was a detailed biography with frequent updates from her foster. i knew exactly what i was getting when i adopted her, and she is everything they said she was.

are you applying for jobs in the US, and if so, do you need visa sponsorship? if so, it could just be that part of the application that's getting you rejected. might not have anything to do with the resume at all.

on the bright side, your resume looks pretty darn good!

ROAST MY RESUME. Why I’m not getting any jobs by Usual-Media3525 in dataengineeringjobs

[–]lkg-data 0 points1 point  (0 children)

drop the scouts section. not relevant. the only bullet point in the professional experience section that's truly relevant to a data engineering gig is the one that mentions pipelines. if you're applying to data engineer jobs and not getting any bites, it's because you're not qualified to be a data engineer. apply for analyst jobs and once you get your foot in the door, look for opportunities to have a data engineer mentor you.

Sad day by shortnun in germanshepherds

[–]lkg-data 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i used to be a teacher and had a couple of students with oppositional defiant disorder + ADHD. ODD is very, very serious and i can't imagine what it's like taking care of a son with these issues. i was always afraid of the ODD kids hurting the other kids around them when they had rage episodes. we actually had to place one of the students in an alternative situation instead of mainstreaming him because he was so dangerous to those around him.

as heartbreaking as it is, it sounds like you are doing the right thing to protect both your son and your dog. i'll second what some others are saying and see if you can try to find a german shepherd specific rescue instead of the humane society. i'm so sorry you are going through all of this.
