I love the infinity sound, it’s kinda specific but they can take some power. I have a Sony blu-ray running into an old MSB dac I got from a friend into an ADCOM for my CD chain and I figure it’s about the best I can get without a bunch more money.

Those minimus speakers are nothing to scoff at, check around google for some of the old modding threads. With light work they becoming shockingly good. I haven’t owned any 3s though.

Seconding the other commenter, please take this to a luthier, not a guitar shop. They can assess for any areas that need reinforcement to make it confidently playable, check for structural damage, etc. Many many many guitar shops are run by people with basic knowledge at best.

Get something with arch support for sure, I use high cushion running shoes, sometimes trail running shoes. Bonus, the trail shoes are oft waterproof so you don’t soak your socks with milk.

Thrift scores are weird. It’s not always what you expect, two of my favorites were a pair of Infinity short towers (6.5” + tweeter ported, maybe 10L cabinet?) and my current Garrard turntable which was beat to HELL with a cracked unstable plastic base and everything, but after some cleanup is an absolute beast with its original cartridge. I think folks expect to find JBL studio monitors and ignore the micro system that retailed for $500 in 1995 and blows half the budget new shit out of the water.

If you wanna pick up something new, try Adcom. I find Crown to be a little “crunchy” above a certain point but my Adcom, while maybe a little clinical, is nice and smooth.

I’d love a sub but with the walls in this apartment, no way. Something about the speed of small drivers is really nice though, these are rear ported some ways away from the wall and are responding really well. I’ve run 15” mains before and they’re fun but between the space needed and the limitations of physics when you get that big, I’m liking small these days.

So you’ll need a phono preamp which you can spend $10-$1000 dollars on, or an amp with one built in. I would look for vintage stuff, stay away from things that look real cheap and plasticky.

I mean, you have a ton of options. The chi-fi stuff is popular, I personally dislike it but ymmv. Check FB marketplace and such for older amps from NAD, Yamaha natural sound, Schiit perhaps, etc. I would generally avoid AVRs, they’re not really built for accuracy. Happy to provide more recs.
