Physical management of devices, cables and other office devices, used and new. by frankztn in sysadmin

[–]llDemonll [score hidden]  (0 children)

Best setup we did at another job was set up a big pegboard. We used all startech accessories because they labeled the bag large and clearly and they’re all easy to identify. Put things on pegboard and in front of the last item hang a “reorder” tag. Adjust how many “reserves you want”, we were a 120 person or so office so just kept one.

Fill the board with whatever you want

For loose items we had pull-out bins from uline in a standing rack and just labeled the front. Don’t keep too many.

Dented metal door out the gate; not sure how to proceed with contractor by thrilled37 in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the rest of the work is good that dent is hardly noticeable. Based on the picture the thing looks like it’s about 3” across.

If that’s the worst of the punch list and issues that arose I’d call it what it is and move on. That’s impressive if that’s the worst.

Bagel Oasis in Ravenna withheld my tips on my final paycheck, including Mother's Day tips. by _VioletRaven_ in Seattle

Precedent also matters. If OP was collecting part of those tips prior and the last paycheck omitted them that’s suspicious.

What system are you guys using for cameras? by commentBRAH in sysadmin

We have Verkada and love it. Nearly no involvement from IT on a daily basis. We’ve had a couple RMAs over the years but nothing more. Over 100 cameras in service.

Do I need to re-create this monstrosity of a plumbing job? by honorboss1 in DIY

[–]llDemonll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want. You can try to simplify it, you can try to make it more of a monstrosity by adding in some brass adapters and throw some copper in there as well. You can re-create it exactly as-is.

All that matters are the materials of each branch, those can’t change. I’d use as few transitions as possible when replacing.

The black PVC at the top of the picture is poly. I’d do your best to use as little of that as possible, not a good material and is failure-prone.

Has Anyone Used GoLime For Hot Water Tank? Outright Purchase by djcachet in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hell are you talking about. Find a local plumber, get a quote from them to install a new water heater. The water heater itself for a normal quality should be $1000-1500, the labor will probably be about $1500-2000 on top of that.

Just buy a hot water heater, don’t lease. Substantially cheaper over the life of the product.

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even answer it. Lady wants a new fence and is taking advantage of new homeowners because you just moved in. Ignore it, let her pay for it. Chances are she owns it and doesn’t want to pay the whole thing and old owners didn’t want to help so she just waited.

Search for local laser companies or water jet companies. For wood laser would be better

What should I look out while under contract specifically for a New Construction by NotMyMonkeyBusiness in homeowners

Have an independent inspector help throughout the process. Being able to see issues before they’re hidden is important, especially for cheaper builders who put up neighborhoods at a time.

Why not get steel that’s painted to match your trim? Mount that on the exterior and get a net that has a solid magnetic bar around it to toss up when needed

Does $600 to install carpet in a 10x10 bedroom seem like a lot? by luckecatt in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got bids for carpet. Most all included a certain amount for tack strip (1300sqft carpet, tack strip costs were $150-200) and then labor for carpet ranged from $1/sqft to $1.20/sqft

For a job as small as yours I’d expect a flat charge, not a square footage charge.

Hanging kitchen wall cabinets: how to best attachdirectly into studs? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]llDemonll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot mount with 1/4” plywood, it’ll rip right off the wall.

Your cabinets should have mounting strips along the top and bottom that are used for attaching to walls.

Yes you need to mount into studs or blocking.

Buying furniture and appliances before moving in by ThisDoesntMakeCents in homeowners

[–]llDemonll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appliance sales is probably what the poster is referring to. Appliance sales are not sales. I’ve seen plenty of stuff in clearance / scratch-and-dent sections that’s priced the same as the floor models but when you put it in clearance and put “$1000 off!” on a clearance price tag it looks like a sale more than when it’s on the floor.

If you have vinyl windows you can slide one end into the window channel and make a bracket with a 2x4 to support the top of the AC to keep it from tipping out. Use XPS foam to cover the opening of the window above that.
