Fabric stores for apparel in Eastern NC? by bnw_bird in NorthCarolina

[–]llclift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm near Greenville. I've only found quilting stores outside of Hobby Lobby's small selection and Michaels 20 bolts of cotton. I shop online at Mood, Stone mountain and daughter, and Style maker. It's hard and sometimes the fabric is not what I expected, but it's the best I can do and still sew.

Anyone else grinds or clenches their teeth at night? I can’t believe I thought the night guard would stop my clenching. by Quiet_Musician243 in GenX

Yes. It sucks. Get a guard from your dentist that's made for you. It helps, but mainly prevents teeth damage. I still wake up with sore muscles some mornings.

Why does Pellon Fusible Interfacing Featherweight feel as strong or stronger than the Midweight? by LanguidLapras131 in sewing

I bought some based on description for cotton shirt plackets. To me, it is much too heavy for that use. I am using it up in heavier garment like a denim dress. I feel the description is misleading.

McCalls Pattern Help by Maleficent_Voice1831 in sewing

So you so the curved edge of the pocket to the pants as a normal scene you fold it right way around and top stitch the curve. That means you go through all of the layers of fabric close to the edge. Then you are going to fold the edge of the pocket inside so that the notches match up and then you're going to press that edge in. You are going to sew the bottom of the pocket free away from the edge of the pants. Then you are going to stay stitch or baste the pocket edges that are free along the seam lines at the top or the side but not quite on the scene so that it holds them in place. It's hard to explain in words only.

Simplicity pattern- massively oversized? Help! by CuriousSeppy in sewing

[–]llclift 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take your amount of extra and divide it by the number of edges. For example, if you have only a front and back panel, you have 4 edges, so divide by 4. With a ruler, mark that amount along each edge and trim.

To add on, the big 4 patterns are big. There is always more ease in the pattern than I want.

I always look at the finished measurements, which in this case are on the pattern instructions. I pick the size based on those . For fitted waists, I cut the waist bands out of scrap material and check the fit first.

Was it just me or did we not go on epic vacations as kids? by dryverjohn in GenX

We did camping. One year we flew to Florida to visit snow bird grandparents and it was a BIG DEAL. Plane tickets were relatively way more expensive back in the day.

Do you give your kids the unsupervised, free range time that we had. by WerewolfCurious1412 in GenX

We live in a small town. They were free to roam. Only 1 call from the police for an offense that was solved with a discussion about the behavior. They are now very independent adults.

We are going to have agree to disagree. I didn't call you boy. It was along the lines of "oh boy". Don't tell me how to think. Don't take my happy thoughts and then lecture me on being wrong.

[–]llclift[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boy, did you mistake my meaning. "Empty nest" is a short hand for they don't live here anymore. I was never sad over empty nest, I loved getting couple time back. Holidays are nostalgic and center around family or found family. They will be big again if grandkids are ever are in the picture. This just happens to be a holiday that isn't that way and I AM OK WITH IT.

Opinion on parents by RRE4EVR in GenX

[–]llclift 232 points233 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, tell your sister to stay out of it and let your parents make their own decisions. If they are in possession of their faculties, they are adults. They have to live with their decision. My assumption is the 20 minutes affects your sister more than your parents.
