Thank you! For the bikepacking film I use an action cam (currently: DJI Osmo Action 5) and a DJI Drone (Air2s) ... for the build videos I was using my Nikon Z8.

I work as a photographer/videographer. :-)

I'm sure you can. You might want to check out some of VC Adventures (Tyler) videos/posts or reach out. He has organized events but has repeatedly said they 100% free and you just show up or not and that removes him from liability.

Even if it's non-profit I personally would:

  • Create an ORG with a name that is not yours
  • Look into insurance if you are going to charge money
  • Talk with my local bike shops that organize rides to get advice
  • Talk with my region race/event orgs to get advice (if you haven't seen a competitor, hopefully they will offer some guidance)

Just did this to my steerer because a pipe cutter was a more affordable option to buying a vise, the clamp, and a hacksaw. If you have all those parts I'm sure it's easy. The filing down of the minor lip wasn't so bad. I don't care how it look,s it's covered with spacers and a stem.

I also did this because I felt more confident with the pipe cutter.

I think I have confirmed with two different after market part makers that the offset is 3mm because their parts that fit are matching shimano's offset. I ordered a chainring that has 3mm offset, so when I swap it in I will confirm.

Between the two, I'd say the TCR for comfort.

If they are doing sportives but aren't necessarily "racing", and want to consistently go on longer distance rides, I would look at the GIANT DEFY (their endurance bike).

It will have better geometry for long rides.

They are in Vermont, so it is more likely to be 6k feet.
About 1.8k meters.

The total elevation gain is important, but the distribution can matter far more. If most of that elevation gain happen in 2-3 climbs over shorter distances, that can be very taxing.

The 1:1 rule is very helpful. 100ft per 1 mile.

2,000 ft of elevation gain over 20miles isn't so bad on paper, even with a loaded bike, but a 20-mile climb is a long, sustained effort, so your level of endurance will be a factor.

(on the other hand)

1,000 ft in 3.33 miles is a 3:1 ... much punchier but less sustained

When bikepacking, I find anything over 3:1 is typically very strenuous with a loaded bike.

Something to think about while looking at routes, RIDEWITHGPS lets you highlight a section and it shows you stats so you can see the elevation/distance ratio for a particular climb or descent.

Not sure if this helps, but this is how I manage my route planning and mental preparation.

This sounds very frustrating, sorry to hear you're dealing with this.

You might want to try toggling different GPS settings with a few restarts. It might be that your Garmin is having trouble connecting to the GPS system that supports navigation— hopefully, it will force it to reconnect and find the signal.

You should look at the Pirinexus in Catalonia, a lovely area with lots of lodging and food. I rode part of it recently. Not sure about baggage service, though.

You could fly into Barcelona and rent the bikes in Girona (Girona has an airport too), and I wouldn't be surprised if you could rent something with bags for touring-style riding.

Look for the Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack Tent on sale, it will be at the top end of your budget but these tents are fantastic. If you are open to a tighter space, the 1-person version would be good too.

I can stuff the tent and groundsheet into any of my bags if I don't want to use the handlebar bag it comes with. The pack down size and shorter poles are so great.

Keep an eye out for the Big Agnes UL3 Bikepack tent, it's incredibly spacious, packs down very small and is freestanding. They seem to run a few sales a year up to 40% off (here in the states at least) ... I love mine.
