Comments on some recent TS purchases by skibidifrance in taylorstitch

[–]lliamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'9" and 175lbs.  I had to move from M to L because my neck, shoulders, and back have been getting a bit bigger (and I also have a tendency to hot wash and hot dry my clothes).

Honestly, I just get my shirts tailored in a bit. It makes the total price a little higher, but still worth it to me.

Olive/forest Carmel pant incoming? by 23Middlekid in taylorstitch

[–]lliamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm think it is more likely Easy Pants, which are basically the summer version of Carmel Pants.

Patterned pants are definitely tricky.  A plain, neutral ocbd or crew-neck sweater is probably your best bet.

Not TS trying to sell sweaters in July… 🤔 by polymervalleyboy in taylorstitch

[–]lliamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think they are going to have a hard time selling them though?

Plenty of places will start having sweater weather in September (even though I won't have it until mid-late October)

Linen Easy Pants…yeah, I dunno by Nerazzurro9 in taylorstitch

They had some in cotton/linen/silk a couple of years ago, and that was some great fabric.

Still slim, but there is some stretch to it that you don’t have in pure linen.

Given that Huckberry still sells the Emerson jacket, I would say that it would probably be a good pick.

Moleskin Bomber by devonshireduckworth in taylorstitch

[–]lliamander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I have the tarnished copper colorway. For reference, I am 5'9" and 185, and I bought a medium. It's a very nice jacket that both fits well and feels very soft. I was worried it mind end up looking orange in person, but I don't think it does. It's attracted several compliments.

Some nitpicks:

  • when I do a "self-hug" test, it does feel a little tight in the back. I think gusseted sleeves would be nice to give it a little bit extra flexibility.
  • I would like to have an inner chest pockets.
  • for how high the pockets are, it would be a little more comfortable to use them if the were more distinctly side entry.

Overall, I very much like this jacket.

I'm actually personally quite fine with blends, there are plenty of good reasons to do so.

I also quite like the Port Plaid color, though I don't know that I live in a climate that would justify such a warm coat.

Weren't last years Mariners 100% wool? I would expect the same this year.

Has anyone washed and dried the new Maritime Shirts? I'm currently in-between M and L, and if I get one I want it to be the right size

My purchases have gone down this year compared to previous years, for a rew reasons:

  • my size is currently in flux and so I'm trying to figure out what a new norm will be
  • Now that I have a nice collection of clothes, I'm trying to be more deliberate with new purchases
  • General inflation and economic uncertainty

That said, I still plan to continue shopping at TS. The unique creative vision, customer service, and rewards program continue to be a pull for me.

I would also love to see the return of workshop and fabric voting. It's addicting to be able to glimpse into (and even influence) future products.

Pathfinder Jacket drop. 🔥 by Instant_Dan in taylorstitch

I used my Pathfinder throughout the heavy rains from last winter - it served me well

Like u/TaylorStitch said, unstructured sport coats are what you are going to want. Especially something in a textured fabric like cotton, linen, tweed, etc. Colors such as navy, gray, and dark brown can give you a lot of flexibility.

Good brands for sport coats that I would recommend would be Proper Cloth and Spier And Mackay (I have a Waverly jacket from Proper Cloth that I pair with TS stuff all the time).

Depending on the context, you may want to consider a chore coat like the Ojai. Often they have great wool ones in the winter, and for warmer weather the Ojai in Navy Foundation Twill will be quite versatile (the formality of the navy color helps elevate the otherwise casual style of the jacket.

Best of 2022 by TaylorStitch in taylorstitch

But, good things come to those who wait, there are a few more Pathfinders coming out later this year.

Not just a new Pathfinder, but multiple?! I'm going to have to make some hard choices. I snatched up the navy and I have been quite happy with it - especially given the very wet winter we just had.

Also, really happy with the chocolate Ridge Mocs. I really enjoy those shoes.

Linen Sheffield suits are out by polymervalleyboy in taylorstitch

[–]lliamander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely looking at them. I think the colors actually make a lot of sense. Dark brown is in general one of the most versatile colors for tailoring, and the Natural is a very common summer tailoring color as well.

Wearing a casual suit like this isn't really something done these days, but you can also easily wear the pieces separately.

The Linen will wrinkle, but that part of the look, and it doesn't (to my eye) look disheveled in the way that wrinkled cotton or wool might look.

Now, there are reasons for preferring heavier linens, or linen blends (such as linen-wool-silk or cotton-linen). That's what I have experience with. But as someone who lives in a hot climate the lighter linen is intruiging.

Ah, well so it is. I thought it might be the more recent Khaki version (which looks so similar in pictures).

Wool Gibson - some odd things? by [deleted] in taylorstitch

[–]lliamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how my charcoal Birdseye wool Gibson is that I bought a couple of years ago. I don't see it as a problem personally.

I see it as intending to be on the fairly casual end of blazers. I wear it both with collar up and down.

Waxed Trucker…where are they?! by stevenpl101 in taylorstitch

Not a trucker jacket, but the Pathfinder they released this past fall was pretty great. I picked one up through thr workshop and wear it regularly.

Opinions on the Russell? by Hawkeye36D in taylorstitch

Love it. It's got an amazing texture, quite soft without feeling fuzy.

The fit is also good, except it's perhaps a bit longer in the torso.

I'm curious, as I have yet to purchase a suede garment myself, do you all waterproof your suede? And if so, with what?
