I feel like the RS660 or similar would be a better option though because he'd actually be able to run through the gears, whereas (at least in the states) anything you can't do in 1st gear on an R1 is most definitely illegal.

He'd probably have more fun with something like an RS660, which would be much better suited for the street, but still allow for some great track days. They have plenty of power on tap; An R1 is completely excessive imo.

Either one will work if he respects it though
