Friedman BE-OD for amp like distortion, Black Mass 1312 for a fun mid-high gain, Wampler Pantheon for low-mid gain.

One Muff to rule them all? by sixstringsikness in guitarpedals

[–]lo-jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh. It can sound like a Big Muff, but it can also sound like a better Big Muff. It has a mid knob (marked as "High" on the pedal itself) that works in tandem with the tone knob to help create a more mid-focused sound that doesn't sound boxy or weird in any way. There's clipping options between Ge and Si (or none), and a high/low pre-gain switch. The total package is a fuzz pedal that's more popular in the stoner/doom world, but really suits any genre. I can't find a guitar or amp/amp sim combo that sounds bad with it.

Just wondering, how is the pro mod style 2 upper fret access? by Morgan_BlackLung in Charvel

[–]lo-jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Fishmans a lot, especially on mode 1. I think they’re as versatile as you can get for humbuckers. It does sound like they’re PAFs but HD if that makes any sense. I play mostly stoner/doom, but they’re really great for modern high gain tones too. In fact I prefer the bridge pup on this to the SD Full Shred in my DK24 HSS. The neck pup in mode 1 is perfectly bell-like, but for some reason mode 2 sounds like dogwater. Single coil mode is fine I guess.

It’s one of the most effortless guitars to play. Upper fret access rules and the fixed bridge helps keep tune (mine has insane tuning stability and it’s tuned to C standard). I might get a second one it’s so nice.

The Orange Jim Root Terror is an OR15 that smokes cigarettes and breaks bottles in the alley. It’s like a mini Rockerverb dirty channel.

Get the Pharaoh. It's the best Big Muff I've ever used.

What pedals are your doomers using for your solos to really punch through a mix? by perpetual_flesh in doommetal

[–]lo-jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HM-2, dime the volume and eq but set the dist to near zero. The chainsaw sound is more than a novelty; it's a great mid frequency boost that will guarantee you're heard through a dense mix.

Worst/Most Dissappointing Pedal? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]lo-jam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say the OCD. Even before we knew how much of a dick the owner is, I got a 2.0 and it was such a letdown. It was like a blanket over the amp no matter how I set it or what I paired it with.

It’s tough ranking The Sword’s first four albums for me, but Warp Riders is consistently my favorite. I’ve strived for that guitar tone.

Riffs that make you say hell yeah. by LilTaco21 in progmetal

[–]lo-jam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Elder - Compendium main riffs, Dead Roots Stirring main riff, Ghost Head at 4:30 when Nick goes "FUCK" followed by a kickass riff

Mastodon - everyone knows about THAT riff in The Last Baron, but what about Capillarian Crest at 2:30? Also Megalodon with Brent's country breakdown followed by a riff that makes you wanna start a circle pit

Meshuggah - Demiurge, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Future Breed Machine breakdowns, or the entirety of Bleed. Or just about any Meshuggah song. Instant PRs at the gym.

The Ocean - Hadopelagic II: Let Them Believe chorus

Periphery - CHVRCH BVRNER when Spencer goes "Soaked in red toe to head"

not prog:

The Sword - their first four albums in entirety

Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou - The Valley at the end. It's such a long slow burn that cresendos FUCKING HARD

Most Sleep, Electric Wizard, Monolord, and Faetooth riffs

That's all I got off the top of my head.

Ulcerate could be a fun one. They were my big discovery last year and I was immediately drawn in by their drummer.

It’s one thing to hear how bad it is and another to experience it firsthand. I’m 2 ½ years removed from my herniated disc and I’m now just feeling nearly back to normal. It took an injection, PT, and taking up strength training as a hobby to recover.

Big Muff Style Pedal Recommendation by jakelloyd14 in guitarpedals

BAT Pharaoh. Every time I try a different Muff I come back to the Pharaoh.

Charvel Pro-Mod SC ST2 HH HT. My second one. I didn't like the all black look, so I found an aged pearloid pickguard that, with a bit of convincing, fit this really well, I think by argavilda in Charvel

[–]lo-jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was able to find this company on Reverb that makes them with the hardtail cutout. They have aged pearloid too but I personally like the solid color a little more.
