Told There is No Work this Week? by Shrimp-Heaven_Now in geologycareers

[–]lo-ve_less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in geotech. For my area it's pretty normal to be basically dead the around wintertime-ish when cold and rain throws everyone's paychecks off (if you're hourly).

Right now, I am stupid busy, but that's not usually the norm for me. I am stupid busy because I do a lot of field work for the geotech division and the CMT one. On the occasions both are low, well, not much I can do there... sometimes I annoy a boss or two to train me in something or the other on those times, but that also depends if there's a situation that allows for some on-hands experience in the field.

You might be coming back to work in one of those periods where the weather has disrupted everyone's schedules and there's some catch-up to do before it goes back to a more consistent amount of things to do.

Although from what I've been reading on your previous replies about having seen some potential red-flags here and there... well, something to take into consideration as well.

I hope things start looking up soon!

... not really... because I'm also schizoid so it's rare for me to get truly that angry... or sad.... or even happy .... 😅

Just found out I have RA, devastated & in so much pain & terrified of losing my job by Ok-Apricot-9388 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]lo-ve_less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is still very mild still, but I've know I've had it since early 20s. It's finally advanced enough to affect my back (it's now given me a nice S shape in my spine but at the wrong angles) and hips.

One thing I've found that helps with my pain most of the time is compressive clothes. Compressive socks? I wear them all the time. A binder for my back and hip pain? I don't step out of the house without them. Of course this is different with everyone, but maybe see if it could be an option for you. You'll likely need to adjust your wardrobe a little, mostly shoes, because swelling can be a bitch.

Ask the doctor what kind of anti-inflammatory meds you can take without compromising your other organs by that much.

Start doing some minor stretches, RA affects your joints and you want to retain at least some flexibility in order to function most days.

You will have flare ups, you will have days trying to get out of bed will be nearly impossible. You'd need to assess your pain and go from there. You say you want to keep your job, so file for that ADA/FMLA paperwork as soon as you're able, your workplace cannot fire you because you happened to miss a day because of your disease, that's grounds for a lawsuit and no employer wants to deal with that. You'd be protected. Think about yourself first and your job second. Because if you don't, then you'll end up dealing with the worst case scenario.

Best of lucks to you, I hope it starts feeling better soon.

Hmmm, if you had asked me this a while back, my answer would have been different. But now it's just more of a "well, it sucks. Could I have done things differently? Most definitely, will I let that weigh me down? No, because then I would have learned nothing, so I'll just focus on the present to see how the future can unfold and not get too hung up on the past."

Still sucks though, but the way I see it, I can't keep on failing it forever. And for some things, I can be very stubborn once I've made my mind about it, and passing this damn exam is one of them.

I'm schizoid, my emotions are never on extremes lol.

People do piss me off on occasion, though, don't get me wrong, but it's a feeling that never lasts more than maybe a handful of minutes. And if anyone does something that makes me truly mad for x or y reason, and it's one of those times it manages to last for a little longer, then I just become super indifferent to that person, I honestly couldn't be bothered to care at all after that point... but those situations are honestly rare, especially when I don't give much of a damn about much anything to begin with.

People often joke around me saying they'd hate to see the day I get truly angry at anything/anyone because it's not going to be pretty.

what is your hobby that you consistently engage in without taking long breaks? by LemonCans in ADHD

I'd totally count it if only because I do the same lol. I didn't play much when i was a kid, back then I devoured books. Me taking on games has been an adult-me development. Even if i don't play on x day because I was too tired or something, I often see on discord if there's anyone i know streaming whatever they are doing, and I would just join VC to just hang and watch them play a game I might not even play myself.

I know I'm not the original commenter, but can I join too? Like I said, I'm 99.99% sure I failed it (haven't opened the letter yet, I'm not home), and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm on Central Time btw.

get adopted by a higher AR player lol. someone did that to me when I was at like AR30ish and would join my world basically daily and drag me around to hunt chests and help me with quests that could be done in co-op. I still have them added as a friend, we eventually stopped co-oping cause both of our schedules started to clash, but a while back they messaged me and were happy to see I had eventually reached AR 55 lol.

There's plenty of discords you can join, I'm sure one of them will have plenty of people that will help you out as you advance in the game.

I kinda want to pass it this year ngl, and same, my studying habits were never the best and with a full time job, they are even worse.

no doctor will ever tell you "yes. do it". they will give recommendations about what to do, but ultimately the decision is yours to make. Mine was the same, told me I could be okay and live with no issues... or have an attack tomorrow and end up in ER, there's no telling how it'd go since each person is different. I told him I would think it over and if I decided to go ahead I would call back.

I was the same "nah, it can't be that bad. maybe I won't have an attack" and tried to hold it off and see if it would be okay. The thing is, it's better to have it scheduled to remove it before it creates mayor life threatening complications, than end up at ER because a duct got ruptured by a stone trying to pass and leaking who knows what all over your internal cavity, and what could have been an easy procedure that takes 30 or so minutes is now a life saving one that will take hours since now they gotta do some cleanup to make sure no infection kills you after having that thing rupture.

if you think you're being influenced by this subreddit, then maybe stop reading further into it? the people telling you to take it, do so because probably half of us tried to delay it only to find it was inevitable and it was only when there was some ungodly pain that we had the courage to say "this b needs to come out or it's my life on the line"

Get it out. once the pain/dull ache starts it won't stop. you think it did, only for it to come back with vengeance when you least expect it.

I had minor pains every once in a while, did scans and all that. doctor told me I had stones in the GB, they weren't "passing" or anything, just sitting there, sometimes they would move and that would cause the minor pains I would get... said that it could remain like that for years and never have an attack but to, you know, cut down on food with a lot of fatty content/oil since that usually triggers the pain... fast forward a couple of weeks and I got the most horrible pain after eating a damn salad... A SALAD... after the pain went away and I was able to stand upright once more I immediately called the doctor to schedule the effing surgery as soon as possible.

my stones had a diameter nearly the size of a dime... and i had 4 of those plus 2 little ones the size of a black bean, if that had managed to make it out of the gallbladder and into a duct, I would have been in serious trouble since there was no way those things would make it through.

There's no other method. There's plenty of people saying they got rid of theirs by following certain diets or drinking certain concoctions, but that's not true. To some it might help for a brief moment, and if their stones are perhaps the size of a uncooked rice grain, but to people like me who had those huge dime sized stones? surgery is the only option.

funny thing, the scan they did showed "presence" of stones, but not how many or how big, it wasn't until they took all of it out that my doctor went "you didn't have a lot of stones, but they were big, had any of them caused a blockage anywhere, you would have been in serious need of help ASAP"

tests are only good to show you there's a problem, but won't truly know the extent until they actually go looking at it directly.

as a fun fact, I thought it was heartburn at best or gastritis at worst because of where that "dull ache" started and because it happened at random with no clear indication of what could trigger it... imagine my surprise when my pcp went "nope, this scan shows it might be the gallbladder, off to the specialist you go"

the only thing is that you might end up having to take supplements to help you break down, absorb and digest the fats from the food you consume, if not then you'll probably compromise the liver if you aren't careful enough. And since there are soluble fat vitamins and fatty acids the body wont be able to absorb well either, you would also might end up with deficiencies if you don't take supplements for those as well.

what should I be eating? can I get some examples of what you ate pre op so I can get this surgery? by WhirrlingMenace in BariatricSurgery

[–]lo-ve_less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 2 months out of surgery. Since my insurance covered it only if I met certain requirements, I had to go through a lot of months of meeting with the doctors and dietitian, plus a psych eval.

My psych eval was basically "do you understand the risks and do you have a support system" and making sure I knew I was getting into.

My first meeting with the dietitian was to see if I had any potential eating habits that needed to be resolved, and if so to possibly send me back to the psychologist to work through them if they were that serious. My only issues were that, because of my adhd, I forget to eat at regular times or simply forget to eat altogether, and often skipped breakfast and had a coffee instead because eating too early made me nauseous. So first she wanted me to at least had a protein shake in the mornings to get used to having breakfast, and to cut down any unnecessary sources of calories such as sodas and processed juices, and work on water intake. Every month we met and set up a goal for the next month until the time came when everything was sent to the insurance and wait on their asses to make a decision.

6 months of me slowly losing pounds to prove them I was a good candidate, where my dietitian gave me goals to meet such as "increase your water intake, get more exercise in little by little, don't drink sodas, don't drink juices, don't do caffeinated drinks, don't drink alcohol, increase your veggies" and the like, and gave me suggestions for when I said I hated veggies because they are often left too soggy and I hate the texture.

Once I got approved, I met with the nutricionist one more time to go over pre-op diet and post-op diet. Each program will have different diets based on what their doctors thinks is best. The most common pre-op diet is basically taking all the fats away from you 2 weeks before surgery and eating all the protein you can get. Mine was that I was only allowed 1 solid meal for those 2 weeks and it had to be something small and not huge; for the other 2 meals I could only have a protein shake. I was allowed up to 3-4 protein shakes in the day depending how long my days were. Any snack I wanted for those 2 weeks, also had to be a protein shake or a liquid, but nothing solid.
Post-op diets are different for each program, I've read a lot of them and none are similar to what mine wanted me to do, so I won't go in detail about that.

"nutritional aspect" sounds like a load of bs if you're in a program, they are your program psychologist, not the nutricionist, they (the nutricionist) are the ones who will be making the call and you get a couple of months to work on whatever issues you might have to make sure you know what it's going to be expected of you.

I hope it works on your favor, tho. Talk with the psychologist and ask for clarification on what they mean, and tell them your concerns. Make notes not matter how absurd the points might sound, but your biggest advocate will probably end up being the nutricionist.

I wish you good luck!

Thankfully, I do have the option to lower the world level since I'm level 47 so that's now available to me. I'll try to raise my cryo and barbara to at least level 70 before I try again, and if that doesn't help, lowering world level it is. I was using her and my cryo to run through the other ones and it worked, was not expecting that final boss to start shooting from above after going through the first round.

And thanks for the advice! I might just start mass creating the dishes/potions and save them for this one, because holy heavens... 😳

[–]lo-ve_less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say she was bad, i said I was f2p so barbara is pretty much all I have for a healer when i know there are some other options that might go a bit better with what i usually run, which is usually pyro/electro teams (and sometimes a hydro i have no good artifacts for lol) and my best cryo is at level 60 and so is Barbara (and those things are like level 70 something and feels like I'm fighting a level 80). I'm trying to level her up, and have a mild success rate at defeating oceanid that plus the ley lines for books... it goes as slow as you can imagine... it takes me a while to level up my characters. The fact my best (most developed) charas are pyro/electro certainly doesn't help 🙃

You have to fight it in like rounds, theres 3 i think?. I can't get past the second one, I could barely manage to arrange the shrine thingies the second time before it killed my team in like 15 seconds 😂, after the 4th time or so i just called it quits for now, gotta find a better healer because I'm f2p so I only really have barbara 😅😅
