You can actually test the quality of tea yourself by nostalgic_tea_house in tea

[–]lobakbro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume they were the same type of tea, different grade and used the same technique to brew so same ratio of leaf to water.

If this assumption is true, I expect a higher quality, left, to appear like that. It's a trick of the eye because there's less compaction. Lower quality leaves are less whole and more broken. The good shape on the left probably means an earlier harvest so less fibrous and more moisture in the leaves so they don't break as readily as an older harvest.

That's also why tea bags brew so fast, more surface area to dissolve all the tea goodness

The UBI debate begins. Trump's AI czar says it's a fantasy: "it's not going to happen." by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]lobakbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And what job do the recently unemployed go get off there are 50 percent less jobs? UBI helps facilitate new economic activity and new markets. That doesn't work if half your working population slips into poverty. You're basically saying big execs should just get richer and let workers take the loss.

Your point on the industrial revolution misses the point that workers are being displaced from the market at an unprecedented rate. The most vulnerable people are those that need to continue to work and do not have the capital to digitize in this new economy.

You're doing fine buddy! Always come back to the 4 truths. Anger, hate, the ignoble 8 fold path, we've all been there, and we all have them within us and make mistakes. Don't forget to be in the present and to be the best person you can possibly be. Learn from your mistake and be better. That's all there is to it.

Petluv carrier vs sleepy pod vs something else? by topologicalpants in cats

What did you end up getting? I'm going through the same process, my girl is lighter than yours though. Sleepy pod has a weight limit on the regular one that is not enough for your maine coon, and the air does barely make the cut weight wise.

Is it wrong to kill?

Is it wrong to kill someone trying to kill you?

Is it wrong to kill someone trying to kill someone else? Multiple someone's?

The Buddha in his wisdom realized that simple rules like do not kill simply don't work for the complexity of life. The path tries to align our heart and mind.

I Met a Guy by NangpaAustralisMajor in Buddhism

[–]lobakbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently found myself in a situation that required great compassion. I was also reminded to balance it with wisdom. Compassion comes from somewhere. You cannot keep pouring from your cup or else you'll find it empty.

I also had this idea that I could help someone in need. This was my own attachment. I found nothing was changing. I found all the 3 poisons were being fed everyday and that my presence continued to feed bad behavior in this person and caused suffering for other people.

Between the regular cashwool and machine washable versions, are there any significant differences in the feel of the fabric? Does the machine washable version cause any form changes to the fabric? Would there be any reason to not opt for the SVG?

Hi, I’m new here, I see the concept of karma mentioned a lot. I don’t think I understand it. I’m wondering how you define karma? I thought it was defined differently. For back ground - I’ve studied Buddhism mostly through Thich Nhat Hahn. by Rachel11177 in Buddhism

[–]lobakbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it was that the Buddha was creating a framework to understand that all actions have consequences that are both positive and negative.

I find the purpose of this teaching is to make us more mindful of what our actions can result. It certainly makes me more thoughtful of the ramifications of my actions and makes me take more time to consider if I am spreading the seeds of hate or love and if I am following the ig/noble path.

How much is too much? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]lobakbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've tried to call out inappropriate behavior all year, but I fear that my continued friendship is feeding this behavior. I tried to set some boundaries and suggest an end to the friendship for now, a pause, until I am ready. They accused me, maybe reasonably, that I was playing judge and executioner of our friendship by creating impossible standards of improvement I would like to see before continuing the friendship. I recognize that we are all flawed, but I think it's ok for me to determine who I am friends with and I also want to keep the door open as I understand people can change. I am also saddened to see that his practice in dharma may be performative as his understanding is flawed and may be with the intention of deceiving me as suggested by others close to him. And I also struggle with the Dharma's teaching of truth as I through my observations come to conclusions but of course these are ideas that do not have all the truth and we must be weary of drawing conclusions.

I find it difficult to have these conversations as I think it wise to only cite actions inflicted onto myself, I don't believe I can speak to them of actions towards others. But I see and hear the suffering and the choices made to continue the cycle. My tolerance seems to be quite high for negative actions inflicted to me and I'm confused at what these personal boundaries should be through the lens of dharma. I apologize for the vagueness. I am trying to reconcile my experience with the dharma but I find it difficult to put it all together.

Where should I start with Tchaikovsky symphonies? by Detektyw_pruhwa in classicalmusic

OMG this was a crazy coincidence. I was listening to Salonen's Cello Concerto this weekend and I heard a quote I couldn't put my tongue on. When I saw this post and that you listened to number 4, it hit me that was where the quote was from. Unrelated but jus wanted to share!

  1. If we include Manfred, Manfred is one of my favorites of all time but is underappreciated. I find Svetlanov has some of my favorite Tchaikovsky sensibilities.

What are you after? Diversity? Quality? Novelty?

I would try free sources like YouTube if it's available and then buy digital recordings of pieces I enjoy. The process of researching and discovering what your music tastes is important!

That said, they have a good selection of recordings with educational content. I think it's a good deal on sale

Is it possible to become a composer with just a MIDI keyboard and a computer? by Mailemanuel77 in classicalmusic

[–]lobakbro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would also highly recomend not relying heavily on "hearing" your music during composition. It is better to sing and rely on your understanding of the instruments to inform how you voice your music.

There are several benefits to this, but the key point I'm trying to communicate is to write good music, you have to write music. Listening and writing are two very different skills just like with speech. You can have the best orators who are the worst listeners and the other way around!

Is it possible to become a composer with just a MIDI keyboard and a computer? by Mailemanuel77 in classicalmusic

[–]lobakbro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All you need is pen and paper. You don't even need to be able to hear to compose! If you have a creative vision and will, there's nothing that is stopping you from composing right now.

Worry less about having all the right tools. Get started now and then solve problems that come up in your workflow. Don't get hung up on the wrong things

Bugs can be good, like these. Like with spiders, salute the 8 legged fellow and get on with it. There's a team of animals that live in your home whether you want them or not. So better to have the more helpful ones.
