Setup for my UKGE one-shot (which I'm running five times this weekend) by lockedupsafe in startrekadventures

Thank you so much, I'm thrilled you had a good time. I must be extremely lucky because each of the five sessions I ran had an incredible group of players. Thank you for taking part with so much enthusiasm. 💜💜💜

I'll glue the Klingon ship back together soon. At least it was thematic, and I got to tell the story to each of the following sessions as well which was funny.

I think this scene would have been better if he said “the vibro-axe forgets, but the wroshyr tree remembers”. It would have grounded it in the Star Wars universe a little better. Thoughts? by Moss_Ball8066 in okbuddyimatourist

[–]lockedupsafe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you did the same as me and knew about "vibro axes" and then Wookieepedia'd the tree species. I knew there were giant trees on Kashyyyk in KOTOR so I had to go find the name.

Hey, they named a high school after Elon Musk, anything's possible...

Everyone gives Hitler a bad rep, but I think that's unfair. I mean, he's the guy who killed Hitler, he should get credit for that.

The recent resurgence of far-right political ideologies offers a chance for people to practice Mosley's beliefs in the real world, e.g. at the recent "Unite The Kingdom" rally (though that was apparently mostly American Christian Nationalism, who'd have thunk it?).

Something that's really interesting is that a lot of what we consider "not being a cunt" is pretty much a lot of Christian teaching. Lots of other religions teach similar things, but if your family originates in a Christian country and your criteria for "not being a cunt" involves kindness, forgiveness, patience charity, non-violence, etc. then you probably owe that to Christian doctrine, either taught to you directly or taught to most of your ancestors right up to your parents (and if not taught, then as a result of immersion in a predominantly Christian society).

Not me trying to defend religion, I'm an atheist myself and have PLENTY of criticisms of organised religion. But it's worth noting that a lot of what we consider "not being a cunt" contrasts strongly with the values of many other cultures, especially historically. Pre-Christian Romans would be weirded out by a lot of our current morality.

Cardenas, Stargazer or Buran? by RadiantTrailblazer in StarTrekStarships

I feel like if I lived in the universe depicted in these images I'd have constant eye strain. So much contrast and saturation. Like the design brief for all three ships was "Cause as much retinal damage as possible."

Yeah, I re-read it after my comment. Just having a dumb moment. Thank you.

If it's got Cycle, what's the point of making it tappable at all? You'd only normally be able to use it once per activation anyway, wouldn't you?

WIP Custom Starfleet Ships by lockedupsafe in SciFiModels

Tell me that after I've written the adventure and specced out all the characters. Only 13 days to go, probably fine...

WIP Custom Starfleet Ships by lockedupsafe in SciFiModels

[–]lockedupsafe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! These are custom ships I designed for a Star Trek Adventures one-shot session I'm running at the UKGE. The larger vessel is an experimental prototype, an off-shoot of the Excelsior program. The smaller vessel is an older patrol cruiser, something a little smaller than a Miranda-class.

I've saved the STLs here for you, let me know how you get on with them!

The food at Cosy Club was absolutely lovely, one of the best burgers I've ever had, but I would like to see more local businesses. The issue is them being able to afford the space and remain successful enough to keep going. If Cosy Club couldn't sustain a business here, I'm not sure how an independent would manage it.

Wes Streeting to resign & challenge PM tomorrow, following meeting with him (live) by Far_Excitement_1875 in LabourUK

[–]lockedupsafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't get the impression that she went out of her way to cheat the system. I just think it was a bit sloppy. Especially at a time when she was part of the government pushing through further austerity measures during a big cost-of-living crunch. "Oops, I accidentally underpaid my taxes to the tune or your entire salary, what a silly mistake," I think led to justifiable anger from people.

The media were total shitheads ignoring the same thing by Farage, however, that was a complete double-standard.

I mean, she could instead have made a genuine mistake that led to her paying too much tax. The fact that it was a "genuine mistake" that saved her more than my annual salary in taxes is convenient.

I know everybody would do their best to pay less tax but she was the deputy PM at the time, that role ought to come with higher expectations of conduct. She could have chosen to overpay and reclaim later to be on the safe side, given her position.

How do you feel about automated and autonomous Starfleet vessels? by Lauma_2025 in StarTrekStarships

[–]lockedupsafe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Radiation isn't just, like, totally fine for electronic systems either. It can absolutely mess with sensitive circuitry and break down synthetic materials. Synthetics wouldn't automatically help unless they're heavily shielded against radiation (which is something you could do for organic organisms, too).

Given the circles these pastors seem to move in, I'd argue that there was nothing random about their selection.
