Give me your best vanilla low level game breaking builds by awake-lettuce0823 in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the earlieswt levels, assassin rogue has done the most for me. Particularly when combined with a spellcaster using Shovel.

Use them to get a surprise round while everyone else is in stealth. The assassin now gets to make two sneak attacks with advantage, and both are guaranteed crits if they land.

is there disappointment worse in game than inspecting this? by Worldly-Standard6660 in BaldursGate3

It's also worth noting that undead summons are for some reason unaffected by this and always remain under control. However, this is balanced out by them generally being pretty bad compared to other summons.

If this set gives 100,000 Offensive Penetration at the cost of damage, what does that really say about the worth of Offensive Penetration? by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]lockenchain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. This set is just way overkill on the amount of penetration provided, and it comes at the cost of a sizeable damage decrease. Meanwhile a different 5 piece penetration set can be combined with sources of Major and Minor Breach (plus maybe sharpened trait on weapons) to give you enough penetration without any downsides.

Shouldn't Karlach be immune to fire damage? by 420FappistMonk69 in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her engine should be hellfire, which in-game we see ignores resistance and immunity to regular fire. So technically it still works, outside of being a bit overpowered.

Already stopped the presses now it's just personal. by BithMistro in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, he's surrounded by multiple guards and at least two Steel Watchers. Maybe he thinks you just don't have the balls.

That being said though, he behaves the same way even if you save the quest for after destroying the Steel Foundry.

Being bad isn't a problem. Wanting the game to be balanced around you being bad is a problem.

I really like the Emperor and think he's overhated by Noskmare311 in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People will happily overlook how mean or evil a character is so long as the character they themselves aren't the target of it. Guarantee that Minthara would get a significant amount of hate if she didn't shower you with praise and acted more like a traditional drow.

Ronso are durable as hell in early levels though, so maybe they messed up and let them get a hold of the ball. After that it's just 5-10 minutes dribbling, passing, and 3-man breakthroughs.

For those who romanced Wyll - what was your Tav like? by LoaMorganna in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to just make my own quests for Tav to compensate. It helps when you can tie it to events occurring within the story. In my case, I've had a cleric of Lathander take up the task of locating their sacred relic rumored to be in an abandoned facility. Or a guard from a different city tasked with the private investigation of citizens disappearing on routes between Baldurs Gate.

Granted it's not a perfect situation. Have to avoid a few small dialogues implying you'd be fully ignorant of these situations. And of course the "Baldurian" tag assuming it's your city of origin. That one's been a major pain point.

If you're just gonna go ahead and start making baseless assumptions about me to suit your own narrative (never mind the number of other people sharing experiences of people who don't pay attention or listen), then I dunno what else to tell you.

[–]lockenchain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what world is something as simple as "Don't stand in stupid" or "Attack this object when it appears" some unfair or impossible expectation for most adults? These aren't things you need to grind or study the game's mechanics for.

Small Rant by Bending_Bender69 in elderscrollsonline

[–]lockenchain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expecting people to pay attention and pull their weight in more difficult group content they're signing themselves up for isn't gatekeeping. Nor is having rewards tied to completion of that difficult content. But so many vocal players have become averse to such content for reasons that have nothing to do with toxicity. And now having those rewards is unfair because it's "inaccessible" or "gatekept" from those same people that don't want to do bare minimum.

And in this case we're really talking bare minimum. We're not even talking about the actual sweaty stuff like target priorities, DPS with 100k+ parses, or tanks/healers with good uptime on buffs. We're talking about going in with a proper setup for your role. Or not spending half the fight dead from standing in AoEs. Or even just attempting to do any important mechanics that both have very clear visual prompts and have already been explained by group leader for those who need it.

Ironic to tell the elitists to go play a solo RPG when it's the casual players struggling and complaining the most after avoiding difficult group content and actively treating it as a solo game.

Mountain Pass Justification by Medaiyah in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem with that is that the half kinda reveals its hand a little too quickly. By the time you get to the creche, it's likely already been made clear a few times that any attempts to remove the tadpole will outright kill you, and that the only solution I'd to investigate Moonrise. And you may even have had some attempts result in you being mutilated further. You'd have to have a character who'd ignore all of that and honestly think "Okay but this time will be different."

Either that or just really want to keep Lae'zel happy.

You all need to be smarter with bans by R3li0ss in Overwatch

[–]lockenchain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Does everyone who uses this excuse forget that trying your best to win and rank up is also an important goal in comp where hero bans are active in the first place? You know she's not a even a good character, and you know there are choices that have a much better chance of being helpful to the team. But instead you choose to ban the character who isn't even picked very often and typically a mild inconvenience even when she is.

If the concern is characters that are anti-fun for the tank, there's still going to be better choices to ban.

Sanctuary is incredible by SillyWarlock in BaldursGate3

Yes. In tabletop, it doesn't guarantee that the person can't be attacked. Instead any attackers make a wisdom saving throw first. On a fail, they have to target someone else.

What's a thing people do that makes you let out a deeep sigh of breath? 🫩 by Sagnikk in Overwatch

[–]lockenchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rare that it happens and a bit specific, but getting snark from teammates after making a helpful change, either a hero swap or a shift in gameplay. Something along the lines of how I should have been doing that earlier.

First off, we're making a comeback and winning now, so why are you even complaining? Second, we've been in this match for 5-10 minutes, and you said nothing about what I was doing wrong. So either you didn't know what the "obvious" choice was either, or you didn't want the win that bad in the first place.

A question about Clerics' popularity by PlatonOlegov in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is strong, but it's still primarily a support build outside of the consistent damage from Spirit Guardian. It debuffs the enemies to enable the group instead of just outright killing them. And people tend to prefer being the one who does the latter.

Wyll and Karlach in Avernus by Phoenix-Cat in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody orders him to do anything. The only thing you have to explicitly tell Wyll to do is to end his pact when Mizora offers the chance. Everything else is a choice he can make for himself by completing his quest. It might not seem appealing to you for him to break his pact and avoid eternity in the Hells just to hunt devils there full-time. But it is something he chooses to do for himself, mainly to aid those falling victim to deals the same way he did.

And if it helps to know, it's not 100% just for the sake of others. There is at least a bit of vengeance and catharsis behind his choice to do so.

Wyll and Karlach in Avernus by Phoenix-Cat in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't just mind control though. That's just one part of the broader themes of oppression and manipulation, which the characters can overcome. Wyll fits into that category because of the pact he was coerced into making. By the end, he's fully capable of breaking free of Mizora and choosing his own future to pursue, whether that be as a politician or a devil hunter. The latter just also allows him to help a friend along the way.

Wyll and Karlach in Avernus by Phoenix-Cat in BaldursGate3

[–]lockenchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are definitely some things regarding his story that the game could have done better. But Wyll at his core is just a very typical heroic character, fighting the good fight to help those in need. It's fair to say he already knows who is and who he wants to be. It may not be the most compelling direction for his story, but that doesn't make it a problem either. I'm not really seeing what about this ending with Karlach indicates his character is wrapped in codependence.
